  1. Just Cover, Just my opinion. With the way lake conditions can change in a days time, if you really wanted to kill the pro ams, not letting anyone pre-fish the day before the tournament is a good way to do it. Tim
  2. yes, from what I understand, freezing isn't very good for LCD displays. Bring em in the house for the winter. Maybe the cold won't hurt em, maybe it will, with the cost of marine electronics, it's cheap insurance to bring em indoors for the winter. Tim
  3. or was that a legend in his own MIND Tim
  4. I fished the lower Catt (between the Rte 5/20 Bridge and the Railroad Bridge) Sunday afternoon (3:00 pm til dusk) fishing was very slow. Water was low and clear, unusually so for the Catt which is usually fairly murky. I was standing crotch deep and was able to count pebbles on the botton at my feet. Ordinarily, I would have been fishing where I was standing, but with the super clear water, even that depth was barren. Only saw 2 fish caught the entire time I was there. Had one possible bite (egg sack came back empty netting) but it may have been hung up on bottom/rock, the float didn't drop like it normally does when a fish hits, just kind of laid over and went under. Really my main objective yesterday was to figure out the center pin/float rod I bought last winter and haven't had much chance to use. I was able to figure out how to cast it good enough to get effective drifts on a big creek like the Catt so I considered it mission accomplished, catching a fish would have been a bonus. Filled up the gas tank on the Res on the way back, $2.66/gal at one of the stations on Rte 438. Tim
  5. the smaller perch are better eating anyways than the big jacks, a little tougher to clean, but worth the effort IMO. Tim
  6. Better solution.....DODGE!!! Tim
  7. Rod, The bridge boats I've seen with radar usually have a metal tube radar arch (atlantic tower type) off the bridge. It raises your overall hight some (may be an issues with overhead clearances at bridges)but it's the only real solution I can think of. I'll see if I can find some examples and post some pics. Tim
  8. another option is the 13 lb torpedo weights from ATomMik. You get 2 of them for the cost of 1 shark. I use em and they work great. http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/ttw.htm Tim
  9. jeb, sorry, the short answer is no. tim
  10. Yeah, and unfortunately for the folks that just wanted a home to live in, they are paying a LOT more than they had to because the @#$%& house flippers artificially raised property values way beyond where they should have been. Now the market is correcting and those legit homeowners are also stuck dealing with trying to pay off a mortgage that is much higher than the actual, real value of their house. Those speculators piss me off far more than the oil speculators did. Tim
  11. Bob, not that severe though, I think that looks like a damaged fish as well. Oh, by the way, what does your link to a dissertation on BROOK TROUIT have to do with this thread Tim
  12. stan, the 20' Crestliner is plenty of boat for Lake O. You'd have to pick your days somewhat, but it wouldn't be too limiting. I fished Lake Ontario for years in a 19' Bayliner bowrider and didn't have too many days I couldn't get out. Tim

  14. Congratulations! You have successfully passed your Boater Exam. 88% 53 right answers 7 wrong answers Tim
  15. I just haven't had the spare hour to take it yet. I'll get to it. Tim
  16. I agree. Ray, you must be doing something wrong. Cut bait kicks butt on big matures. It's a pain in the toucus and messy, but there's no denying it is a big fish taker. I probably started running cut bait in 1998 or so. When I run meat, I am prepared to dedicate the presentation to it, minimal rods and slow for me. Many times it is just 2 rods/riggers and since I like to run the big 11 inch hot spots/O'ki big shooters with cut bait, my downspeed is usually 1.7-2.0 with 6' leads on the bait head. I started using the Familiar bite whole alewives last year and they do work well and seem to be a bit more speed tolerant. Just as much of a messy PITA to run as the old cut bait strips, but it catches fish as well. Tim
  17. Spike, when you say DR are you saying DownRigger or Depth Raider? If you just mean the downrigger cable was pigtailing, it probably wasn't twist, but the cable was lowered onde tension on a hard edge. The only time I've seen that was one time on my old Cannon Unitroll manuals where somehow the cable jumped off the front pully onto the center pully shaft and was lowered with a cannonball on it from that, pigtailed the crap out of the calbe to the point I ended up replacing it. If that didn't happen, maybe you need to check the front pully on that rigger and make sure it is turning. If it is not spinning, and the cable is just sliding over it , I could see that causing that to happen as well. Just something else to consider. Tim
  18. I had cannon mag 10's, I liked em, now I have Scottys and I would never consider going back. Tim
  19. Hey, it's all in fun guys, just bustin' the "other" Fishstix's chops. Gill, so... how'd you do in those pro-ams again Tim
  20. Hey Stan, Team FishStyx is already used, get your own name and yes, it DOES have a nice ring to it Tim
  21. or if you don't want broken bits of rubber bands all over your boat, getting into your bilge and clogging the bilge pump etc, you can us a pinch pad rigger release, either clip it to the hook keeper on the rod or maybe attach it somehow to your diver rod holder. Something like this: Tim
  22. SW, did you try calling me on the radio sunday? I thought I heard someone calling FishStyx, but it was a real weak signal (we were way offshore) and I had the radio on scan and missed what channel the call came on. Sorry I didn't respond if that was you. We had a pretty good day offshore, sounds like that was a better decision than joining the pack and pounding those inside waters for not a lot of action. Tim
  23. Dave, Great job, congrats. That's some quality fishing under tough conditions. Tim
  24. Great day to be on the lake, dead calm and the steelhead were biting offshore. After hearing the radio chatter suggesting not much happening inside, Dad and I elected to run right out to the offshore zone. Set up at the 27.5 line in 440 fow and started trolling north. We worked the 28-31 lines and ended up 14/17, doubling up twice, fun with only 2 of us on board, let's hear it for autopilot. 1 mature king on a mono diver, metalic purple diver and fire tiger #4 J plug back 150. 15 or so lb hen, released. The rest were all steelhead up to 10.5 lbs. fish were fairly high. All rods took fish but the hot rod for the day was the 55' rigger with an NK28 blue thunder with a crushed glow ladder, took 5 fish and 2 hit and runs. Other than that, most of the other bites were on various R&R spoons (frog, lemon lime, green/chart) Carmel Dolphin SD/Atommik CrazyB!tch on the wire diver took 1 shot back 140 on a 3. 55' rigger, 35' rigger, (and sliders), 5 color core, mono and wire divers all took fish. Unfortunately had to keep 4 because they beat themselves up so bad we couldn't release them, including the 10.5 lb. Bled all over my boat. Here's a few pics from today flat lake for 11 miles offshore the big steelie of the day Tim
