LOTSA is happy to announce that we have reached agreement on a contract with the Niagara Falls Conference & Event center to hold our winter show again as part of their Greater Niagara Fishing & Outdoor Expo on January 23rd through the 25th. We will be holding our Salmon School on Saturday the 24th and we are currently in the process of working on who the instructors will be. Our “LOTSA Marketplace†will be held again on Sunday the 25th. The Conference Center Management has been very receptive to our suggestions for show improvements from the first year and we think this will be a really great event next January. We will continue to provide updates as the show comes together. Please mark your calendars to attend and let your fishing buddies know to do the same. Between the Salmon School, LOTSA Marketplace, Exhibitors in the main show, Seminars running throughout the weekend, raising money for the Pen Project, Offering Kids and Beginner Lake Ontario education, and just getting a break from winter to talk Fishing with everyone, we are excited to be able to offer this again in 2015.

On Thursday July 10th at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a Seminar by Roy Hryckowian on Lake Erie Walleye Techniques. Roy is the owner of NICK'S SPORTING GOODS in Buffalo and a very accomplished Walleye fisherman. Roy has been fishing Lake Erie Walleyes since the early 1970’s. He has many top ten finishes in walleye contests such as the Southtowns and Ameri-Can and won the CAN AM tournament. Roy will be explaining the techniques he uses to be consistently successful catching Walleye in Lake Erie. The Lake Erie Walleye fishery has been “on fire†again this year right off of the Buffalo / Hamburg shore line. Roy will be sharing his knowledge and answering questions throughout the Seminar. LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a sharing of information on the current fishing conditions. So come join us and become more successful at fishing Lake Ontario! The meeting will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78 two miles north of Lockport), Lockport, NY 14094. The Seminar is open to the public and free to attend. I look for 42 deg for the bottom of my spread and the rest of the baits go above there. Kings, particularly mature kings like to hang in the ice water when they are not actively feeding. They will move up into warmer water to feed butthen drop back down to the cold stuff. They will still smack a bait down there and every year, most of my bigger kings come from that 42 deg water, other that 1st thing in the morning when all bets are off, that time of day you can catch big kings 25 feet down over 50-60 fow, but once the sun is up, baits get dropped deeper. That is why my first rod out in the morning is my starboard wire diver, slowly creeping out on a light drag, fishing its way out to where I intend to set it. You'd be amazed how many times that gets whacked before I can even get the probe rigger in the water, with not more than 60-70 feet of wire out. VHF is a linear transmission, that means the radio's antennas have to be able to see each other to communicate. That is the main factor limiting the range and usefullness of hand helds.
