    Our Salmon and Steelhead babies were delivered to their cribs yesterday, now we need feeders. 5 times a day, 7:00 am, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm every day until they are released.     What we need is a couple days of good stiff NE winds to push the ice field into the warmer western and central basins of Erie, where the ice will waterlog, sink/melt and go away forever. Or at least until next winter.

    Hi Stan, How ya doing, it's been a while. Didn't mean to sound so crabby in my first post, sorry about that. all gps charts are based off of digital scans of the paper nautical charts. It may be that the finger lakes charts just aren't as good/accurate/reliable as some of the other ones. Garbage in/garbage out as they say. You still have that Arima? Tim

    GLTS sells heads that the whole Alewives fit into nicely. They wont fit in a standard cut bait head. I've used the GTLS Familiar Bite Whole alewives and done well with them. The problem with them is it is touchy tuning them to roll properly, the single hook on the harness gets inserted into the alewife near the tail and the line gets pulled through the head to put a curve in the fish, which is what gives it the rolling action. Getting that right can be tricky, but when you do it works great. I've found the smaller red label alewives easier to tune correctly than the larger green label ones. Tim

    It depends on what you are targeting. If you just want to catch fish, a 48-60" leader will pick a mix of species. If you want to specifically target mature kings in August, I like a 72" leader between the blade and bait head and troll slow, I look for 1.6-2.0 on my Depth Raider. I don't normally run meat on divers, usually on riggers, though we did have one day last august where I ran a meat rig on a 400 copper and it fired 5 or 6 times, all nice steelhead. Tim.

    Mine is an older unit, but my Garmin 172C is dead on, to the point where when I'm puttering out the channel at Olcott, it shows me pretty much exactly where I am between the piers on the display. When I'm sitting in my slip in the marina, it shows me sitting in my slip in the marina and so on. So, how do you expect them to correct any issues if you feel it is not your problem to send them the info on what is happening? Pretty messed up attitude IMO.

    Our 67,100 Kings and 3,500 Steelhead will be delivered to the pens on April 22 at 1:00 PM Feedings will start with the 4:00 pm feeding that day and will continue 5 times a day until the fish are released. If you'd like to sign up to feed the fish, I have an online feeding calendar and feeding time request form on the LOTSA Website that is updated nightly throughout the pen project, so come on out and feed the fish (and our future trophies) it's a great thing to bring the kids to. Life Jackets are available for the kids in the Town of Newfane Marina Office, where you pick up the food and clipboards. Tim

    On Thursday April 10th at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a Seminar with Charter Captain Matt Yablonsky (Wet Net Charters) who is featured in an article on Small Boat Spring Trolling in the Spring issue of the Lake Ontario Outdoors magazine. Matt is well known for consistently finishing high on the leader boards of numerous Derbies and Tournaments over the past few years. He fishes from a smaller boat that he trailers to where the fish are like many of our members. He will be covering the techniques and setups he utilizes to consistently take large Kings from his smaller boat. Matt is an experienced presenter and this happens at a perfect time for those of us that need to tweak our programs some, just before our Spring Kings bust loose in LO! Matthew Sawrie, the owner of Torpedo Divers who is featured in the latest issue of Great Lakes Angler magazine will also be there to talk to us about his experiences fishing for those really deep Kings using his new Torpedo Sea Diver which he has tested down to 400ft. LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a sharing of information the current fishing conditions. So come join us and become more successful at fishing Lake Ontario! The meeting will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78 two miles north of Lockport), Lockport, NY 14094. The Seminar is open to the public and free to attend.     Agree, I have some of both, however, I find the smaller ones to quite a PITA to open and close without using a needle nose. Cabelas has em in a 72 pack for a pretty good price.
