cannon 10a weight?
Tim Bromund replied to gamekilr's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I ran 12 lb cannonballs on my old Mag 10A's, they were glacially slow, but never failed to bring the balls up. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
I agree, I love mine, I think it's just about the best fishing platform in that size boat out there, but Thompson DID have some build quality issues, a survey is money well spent. Tim

I signed it despite the fact that I don't agree with the part he want's to keep intact. I respect the work our first responders do as much as anybody, but I disagree that we should set up ANY group of people as a special protected class for whom killing them carriers a stiffer penalty than anyone else.

Public Meetings - Lake Ontario Fisheries - State of the Lake
Tim Bromund replied to BlueEye's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I already did. Since they've already issued the press releases, etc, they're kind of locked into the published dates for this year. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Bummer this year is, they normally check with us first, but didn't this year and scheduled the Lockport meeting the same day, time and venue as our March LOTSA Meeting. -

Public Meetings - Lake Ontario Fisheries - State of the Lake
Tim Bromund replied to BlueEye's topic in Open Lake Discussion
These are the DEC's annual "State of the Lake " Public meetings, where the various DEC, USFWS etc Biologists report on the state of the fishery and update the public on any new issues, etc. The public is strongly encouraged to attend. To some degree, the DEC uses the number of attendees as a measure of the public's interest in the fishery. Tim -
Pirates are killer spoons, been out of production for a long time, but they are salmon slayers.

spring brown trout
Tim Bromund replied to ironanglerx2's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
No, they catch plenty of fish too, I've just had better luck overall with the 3.5" one. All the other Smithwicks I run are the bigger 4.5", but for whatever reason the 3.5" in that color smokes em. I only have 2 or 3 of them left. -

Yes it was. I was just thinking this morning that I couldn't believe I didn't take any pictures yesterday.

spring brown trout
Tim Bromund replied to ironanglerx2's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Yeah what BAZOOKAJOE said. the spring shorline brown trout fishin is always better when there is a mudline along shore. Same thing with the colored plumes coming out of the creeks. The dark water will be a couple degrees warmer than the clear water. I've had my boat in as shallow as 5 feet of water and my inside board practically skipping off of shoreline rocks in 2 fow and caught browns in there. If there is a heavy mudline, most times, you want to fish just inside the edge of it rather than deep in the soup. On the muddy side, noisy baits like Smithwick rattling rogues really shine, whereas more subtle baits like thundersticks, rapalas (both strait and jointed) etc are better on the clearer side of the boat. A few of the must have lures on my boat are siver/black, gold/black and log perch smithwicks (I believe that smithwick changed the name of the log perch to something else now, but they still make the pattern) the log perch IMO is an almost perfiect goby imitation. J7 and J9 jointed rapalas in gold/orange and silver/black, F9 and F11 Rapalas in silver/black, silver/chartreuse and a variety of thundersticks. I also like to run a light flutterspoon way back on a rigger behind the boat. One of my favorites is a chrome/green/chart jr flutterdevle 3-4' down and 70-80 back on a rigger. Depending on where you are fishing, you'll also find coho's in there as well and they are very aggressive and not the slightest bit boat shy. i usually have one of my riggers running a bright orange bait right in the prop wash, down 2 feet and maybe 12-15 feet back. The coho will come right into the wash and smash those baits. This is the log perch pattern smithwick I'm talking about Tim -
The main room this year was a little disappointing, but that's to be expected. This was the first time the event organizers had ever attempted to put something of that scale on and they were a little overwhelmed at times, plus they got it up and running a little too late in the season to book many of the big names in the fishing and tackle industry for this year. Quite a few of our vendors were in the main room on Friday and Saturday and moved their displays into the LOTSA Marketplace for Sunday. That's why there were so many empty booths on the main floor yesterday. That and I don't really think the Bass University really fits in with most of the fishermen in our area. It would probably be a huge draw down south, but up our way, there are far more Trout, Salmon and Walleye fishermen than there are Bass fishermen. Now that they have this one under their belt, I expect next year to be greatly improved in the main room. We've been running the LOTSA Expo for quite a few years now and have kind of worked all the kinks out on our end. I admit I was a little apprehensive at the start about making the move, but I think this will be a very good show in the coming years. Tim

It makes absolutely no sense to not raise kings at Caledonia. It is a proven successful location for producing high quality smolts and has been for decades. Before the SR Hatchery was built in 1981 and we were getting eggs from Michigan every year, where do you think those were reared? Even after the SRH was operational, Caledonia has always produced better quality fish.
-
Oh come on Bob, I'm sure the fact that Senator Barkley and family owned all of that land on the SR had NOTHING to do with the location of that hatchery........
