  2. Yeah, what Tom said. The gear on my boat is worth a lot more than the boat itself is
  3. Definitely looks like one of Dave's paint jobs, the hook probably isn't original though. I don't think I've ever seen an R&R with a treble on it. Tim
  4. I never tie anything direct. A duolock snap with a nice round bend doesn't restrict lure action and makes changing lures much easier. I do NOT like snap swivels direct to the lure as I think that bulk and weight DOES affect action. I always have a #10 spro power swivel between the main line and leader, then a fluoro leader and a duolock snap to the lure. THe #10 spro is small enough to fit right through guides and level winds. Regarding split rings on spoons, the manufacturers don't add them arbitrarily, if they come that way out of the package there's a reason for it, the manufacturer has determined that that spoon blank runs best with the ring, Likewise, if there ISN'T a split ring on it from the manufacturer, they've determined that that particular blank runs best without it. So I leave them however they come. Tim
  5. Before fleas showed up in the lake, all I ever ran on my rigger spoon rods was 12 lb Trilene XT and many a 30+ king came to net. Sadly those conditions no longer exist and we DO have fleas in the lake. 12 lb now would be nothing but an exercise in frustration. Tim
  6. The room capacity is 150 people and we are currently at 120 booked so only 30 spots left before we sell the room out. Tim
  7. There's always one in every port.
  8. Nope, works just fine. We mark a ton of fish, just saying it's not at all uncommon to get bit on a blank screen.
  9. Glen, can't tell you how many thousands of fish I've taken on a blank screen over the years either. Just sayin' Tim
  10. Hammer down: a half mile off compared to what? The different units read different. DR and Subtroll are usually pretty close, which makes sense considering they use the same technology. The Fish Hawk reads a half mile faster at the same speed than the DR/Moor. Who's to say which is correct? The actual number is irrelevent anyway, the value in a probe is repeatability. If you find that you normally catch most of your fish at 1.8 - 2.2 down speed like I do on my DR, as long as you can replicate that, it really doesn't matter what the actual speed is.
  11. If everyone is trolling East-West, do not decide you want to troll North-South
  12. Adk1, Honestly, I'd reorganize my electronics priorities if I were you. I'd fish without a graph before I'd fish without downspeed and temp. You can get by with a second rate or even 3rd rate graph, but if you don't know where the temps are and what the currents are doing down where your baits are running, you might as well stay on shore, IMO. Tim
  13.   HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
  14. Jack, pretty sure Church developed that in response to the pike ball rig we've been using for years
  15. I did some looking around for rates at other Hotels in downtown Niagara Falls and found that the Quality Hotel and Suites, which is literally across the street from the Convention Center on 1st St, has a best room rate of $79.00 a night. This hotel is closer to the Convention Center than the Comfort Inn previously mentioned, so this is another option at a pretty good rate. http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-niagara_falls-new_york-NY600 Tim Bromund

  17. Just stop using that POS Internet Exploder and switch to Firefox. Tim
  18. I have one of the Beckmans from Capt Larry (mostlymuskies) that I got a year or two ago. It's not a bad net. I like the hook free netting but other than that, quite honestly, I really like my Cummings net much better. One thing I really do not like about the beckman is the smooth round handle. When extending the handle you have to make sure the pin/peg lines up with the hole as you are sliding it out, and in the heat of battle, that's just one more thing to have to think about at a critical moment. The octagonal shaped handles of the other nets don't have this issue. The Beckman has been relegated to backup duty on my boat, the hoop is much smaller and overall it is a LOT heavier than the Cummings. Tim
  19. If you can safely get out it is definitely worth it. Not all browns run the tribs, a fair percentage of them stay in the lake year round and spawn on the shoals. Tim
  20. You aren't fishing out here, the late summer/fall fishing out west sucks. The odd fish is caught, but it's frustratingly slow from mid August on trying to fish for matures.
  21. Yeah well the reverse is also true for the fall derby. Our salmon fishing out west all but disappears in mid August as they all head east.
  22. Well, I think canning the spring steelhead division and redirecting that prize money makes sense. If you look at the last three years final results for the spring LOC's they never even came close to filling the board in the steelhead division. Not a lot of steelies caught that time of year as they are dropping back out of the spawning tribs. Tim
