  1. Pap, a hybrid is a king/coho cross. It happens occasionally where kings and coho spawn in the same gravel beds. They're not real common, but we usually several show up in pictures here every year. A couple years ago a guy caught what was thought to be the new world record coho in the Salmon River, but it was determined to be a hybrid, so the old record atill stands.
  2. Pink salmon are exceedingly rare in Lake Ontario. They used to be fairly common in Lake Erie back in the 80's, but they kind of dissapeared there too. The last pink I caught in an Erie trib was in 1985. A good sized pink salmon in the great lakes is 3-4 lbs. They look completely different and it would be very difficult to confuse them with another species.
  3. Looks like a King. Hard to tell for sure if it might possibly be a hybrid without seeing other identifying features like the tail, a better look at the Anal Fin and much higher quality image.
  4. Ahhh the voice of ignorance, ya gotta love it.
  5. The Browns are feeding heavily on gobies as well, which is probably why we've been seeing so many just slob football brownies lately.
  6. What has me a little concerned was the almost total lack of teenagers in our catch this summer. Maybe it was just us, be we hardly caught any, might make for a sparse year for matures next summer. Tim
  7. Rick, I think Les was talking about the August part of the dates
  8. Sounds like someone was bottle fishing the pier with their bail closed.
  9. My Garmin Chartplotter is 7 years old and has never been anything but flawless.
  10. Yeah, what Vince said.
  11. I run 23-24" leads on spin doctors and catch tons of fish on them. Tim
  12. Pap, if you're going to run a separate GPS, Garmin units are the best in the biz by far. Tim
  13. Between Lowrance and Garmin, there is no competition, Garmin in a heartbeat.
  14. No, trebles are allowed on floating lures above the first bridge, other than the SR.
  15. Crimps damage the wire and cause weak spots. I've had that knot tying on the snap swivel on a wire diver rod for years, never had to retie and never had a wire break.
  16. Well Done Brian!!
  17. Just for the record, I don't have a problem with Atlantics, the 2 (yes 2) we've gotten on my boat over the years were fun and I am happy they are a component of the overall fishery, but discontinue king stocking for them?? NEVER!!!
  18. The Atlantics that were "native" to Lake Ontario were wiped out 140 years ago, so any new introductions that have been taking place with very limited success will be just as foreign as the pacific salmon are. Besides, the many factors that ultimate led to the demise of the "native" Atlantic Salmon are still in place today, so why would you expect these replacements to do any better? As long as there are alewives in Lake Ontario, Chinook salmon will be stocked, and that's exactly as it should be. Atlantics will never, EVER, be anything more than a rare novelty fish.
  19. To each his own I guess. Have never pulled rods and never will. Absolutely no need to put your entire spread out of production on every fish, even a big one, if your boat is set up properly.
  20. Sounds like a loose belt to me.
  21. Seriously? You clear the boat on every fish?? Not only is that completely unnecessary, that's freaking nuts and an incredible waste of valuable fishing time IMO.
  22. Learn his lesson about what, exactly? Doing the right thing and knocking on the property owners door to ask permission instead of just trespassing? WTF
  23. Same in the Olcott/Wilson area. Tim
