I think I could probably fish all year with just a mountain dew spinny with that green crinkly howie and a nuclear green spinny with a hammer fly and catch all the fish I want. Those 2 combos have taken probably 80% of my flasher fly bites over the past several seasons. Tim -
I second the MC Rockets. I had a meat rig with the standard sized Rocket in the BD24 pattern, out on a 400 copper Saturday and it fired 5 times. I've said it before ,but we catch as many on the rockets as we ever did back in the day using real meat (back when you could get the good Rhys Davis Pacific Herring Strips) and it's a lot less hassle. Which speed/temperature probe system should I buy?

All of them back their products well. Tim -
On the water at 0600, ran out to the 25 line and trolled north. Good temps had 45 down 80. Trolled out to the 30 line, steady pick of small/teenage kings and steelies. Outside of the 28 line pretty much all steel including several over 10. Turned around and trolled back south to the 23 line. Inside the 25 line started getting into better kings again ending the day with a 28 lber that fought like it was mid 30's. Riggers at 50 and 80, divers at 240 and 300 and 400 copper all took multiple shots. Nbk stingray on the 50 rigger and mountain dew spinny with green krinkle howie on the 80 rigger were both steady producers. Nuclear green spinny and hammer fly on the 300 diver and nuclear green chip with green glow Atommik on the 240. Meat rig with BD24 MC Rocket on the 400 copper went 5 times. Over 20 bites on the day including the 28 lb king and 11lb 4 oz steelie that both went on the leader board, at least temporarily. Will post pics later. Beautiful day on the water Tim 28 lb king, off the board already Beautiful day on the lake 11 lb 4 oz steelhead Not much left of this green crinkle howie fly, but it still keeps taking fish

As far as I know, It's just what they do, my 5.0 Mercuiser has been making that sound as long as I've owned the boat.

flea season should be just about over, they usually start disappearing in mid August. Tim

Exhaust shutters was going to be my guess as well.

actually it's just he opposite, the rotation is tighter on a short lead, the loop gets bigger the longer the stretch behind the ball. Tim

Lowrance has always taken the planned obsolescence concept to the extreme.

Good to hear. You might want to do something with your website though. It's a little outdated. Tim

yeah, if they had the otter boats out, they were probably running long coppers (300, 400+) off of them. Tim

Finally back out in my boat for the first time since the LOTSA club tournament on July 13. We ran out to the 25 line after seeing good reports from that area, saw the occasional mark down 100, so we trolled as far as the 27 line without seeing much picture and only catching a small king and small steelhead, so we turned around and headed back south. Once we got back around the 25.5 line we started seeing some marks again and picked up a couple more small kings and steelies, but nothing to keep us in the area, so we continued trolling SE back towards where we were fishing on Saturday. The nice green water was still there and we started picking up fish again 180-200 fow. Another mainly diver bite with the starboard diver at 300, with the Nuc Green SD/Hammer fly taking numerous fish, including a nice low 20's king and several 7-8 lb steelhead. Capt Valium SD with green/glow fly on the 85 rigger took a couple shots, both nice steelhead. After a while. we were east of the plant, so we decided to move way inside and make a long west troll back to port and try and pick up some browns. Fished 30-45 fow and marked a ton of bait and hooks but couldn't get anything to go. Plenty of action, but other than the one mature, size could have been better. Felt good to be back out with the weather cooperating on the weekend for a change. Tim -
Stainless. Copper is a completely different presentation run as a long line and would not work well as a diver line due to it's extreme thickness. Besides, you'd need a HUGE reel to load enough copper to run a diver on. Tim

Chad's boat looked like a crime scene the way that fish bled all over everything. Thanks for the invite. Tim -
When I run them, I normally only put 1 out. The only time I put both in is if it's really rough, just to smooth out the ride a bit. Tim

http://amishoutfitters.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1&zenid=4f9cf0d5fb1077a39126911118f55812 I have 2 of the 28" beefy bags and with both of them deployed, they will just about slow my 24'Thompson to a dead stop at idle. Even with only one of them in, it allows for much better speed control because it gets you past that idle/not idle jump with an I/O, also keeps the engine better lubricated and better cooling/water circulation with the RPM's up a couple hundred above idle. I've had mine for 5 or 6 years and they still look good as new. Tim

4.2:1 isn't a bad gear ratio for a wire diver reel. I believe my old Penn 209 and 309's that I first bought when I got into this game had a 2.8:1 ratio, now that's a slow reel, though it did make it impossible to horse a fish

Line counter reels are better for divers, but the 320's will certainly work, just not as easily repeatable to get back to the same depth. You'll have to figure out how much line is played out per pass of the level wind. Many years ago when I was running mono divers on Penn 309's it was approximately 8 feet per pass (left to right, or right to left, not back and forth) so I was able to approximate how much line was out (10 passes 80 feet, 15 passes 120 feet, etc).
