  1. I stopped using snubbers many moons ago and still don't... with great success.
  2. Did you weigh them? Neither of those steelhead in the pics look bigger than maybe 5-7 lbs. Tim
  3. They all work. I currently have A-Tom-Miks, Howies, Big Weenies, ITO's, Dreamweaver Action Flies and Siggs Riggs flies on the boat and they all catch fish. As far as colors, If I had to limit myself to 4 colors of flies that will cover all water and light conditions, they would be Green Crinkle, Hammer, White Glow and Mirage. Others certainly work, but those 4 will always keep you in the game. Tim
  4. http://www.howiestackle.com/category/SPN.html
  5. I used 12 lb balls on my old Mag 10A's, they worked fine. Slower than a turtle, but they worked. I wouldn't go any heavier or you'll probably start popping the breaker on the rigger. Tim
  6. I have the Navionics App on my phone and it is well worth the $15. It turns the phone into a fully functional chart plotter and I see that as an added safety feature to have a backup chart plotter in case your main one takes a crap, not a "gizmo" or waste of time. Neither is my Boat US app that puts me directly in touch with Towboat US if I break down on the water and need a tow. Sk8man---- yes you are :-P
  7. sorry, that seemed to be the implication.
  8. I would disagree with that. The kings this time of year (spring and first half of summer) are excellent eating. Once they start getting dark in mid-late August, they start dropping off from an eating perspective. If all someone has ever tried was a nasty black mud hen in late August/September or even worse, those half dead zombies in the rivers, I could certainly understand not appreciating the fine eating quality of these fish. Tim
  9. they come off easier after you cut them in half.... I'm just sayin'
  10. Wow, a diver on a spinning rod. How do you know how much line you have out?
  11. I always let my divers creep out on a light drag, just slowly creeping their way out. Not only does this prevent tangles, it fishes it's way out to your intended destination. You'l lbe amazed how many times that thing gets smoked as it is creeping out. especially first thing in the morning when the fish are feeding up high and out of temp. I have had quite a few mid-upper 20's kings smash a wire diver first thing in the morning as it is creeping out, just shortly after it was put in the water, where it couldn't have had more than 50 or 60 feet of wire out. Tim
  12. did you let the Marina staff know? They'll call the owner. Tim
  13. I've been running meat rigs with the MC Rockets all spring and have taken kings on them
  14. It hasn't had any impact on the fishery on Lake Michigan, why would it here, especially since harvest limits didn't change?
  15. The Oak
  16. yup, I was showing 2'-4" on the fishfinder at my slip in Olcott when i pulled a month early last September and it had dropped quite a bit after I pulled the boat. This past weekend I was showing 4'-6" at my slip. We like high water. Tim
  17. Yes it actually looks something like this, except the dipsey rod is bent way over Tim
  18. ifishy, you like tangles and scaring away the bigger fish that much? Most times less is more. The bigger mature kings don't like all that commotion/crap in the water. I love the 3 rod rule for the options it provides, not necessarily for getting as many rods as possible in the water. My normal spread is 6 rods, though I might go as high as 7 or 8 on occasion, regardless of how many people are on the boat. I like that the 3 rod rule allows me to run my regular 6 rod spread when it's just Dad and I on board, which is more often than not these days. Tim
  19. There's not a port I'd rather fish out of in the Month of July than Olcott, with the Oak being a close second, only because I've seldom fished there and don't know the water. Tim
  20. Personally, I wouldn't trust em to hold up to the stress of Diver duty. Tim
  21. I have no complaints with the quality of the fishing so far this year. It's actually been pretty killer out of Olcott so far. Tim
  22. Yup, I've always been a Berkley line guy, but vanish is junk, all it does is make your tackle vanish when it breaks, go with either Seguar or Gamma and you'll be happy. Tim
  23. and I see Has Been is still being a dilweed on this topic. Good to see some things never change, i guess
  24. Why just a 2 year extension, why not just make it permanent? This state is so stupid sometimes (most of the time).
