  1. where will you be fishing out of? That might give us a better idea of what kinds of crowds you'll run into.
  2. Jim, what do you think all those "Russians" are doing with the nasty moldy mud sharks they drag sideways out of the tribs every fall now?
  3. Not familiar with the GLP stuff, but you might want to take a look at the Cicso Planer Mast before you buy. They are a bit pricy, but Cicso's stuff is all CNC machined Aluminum, no plastic anywhere, really heavy duty and well made. No affiliation with Cisco, I just put their electric planer reels on my boat a couple years ago and they are super products. I run them off my hardtop, so no mast. Tim
  4. Brian, It's always the last weekend in February, plenty of time to make arrangements to "be sick" that weekend next year
  5. We always use 50 lb for fly leaders. I think most guys use 50 on Lake Ontario.
  6. Absolutely agree with Brian on this, Boycotting Hunting/Fishing Licenses ONLY hurts the DEC, and they are NOT our adversaries on the gun control issue. Gotta stay focused folks. Tim
  7. IMO, If your F/F on riggers are tangling you are running way too long leads, and/or are crowding your riggers too close together. I normally run 8-10 foot leads off the ball, maybe out to 15' some days, but most days I have more action tight. You also should have at least 10' of vertical separation between riggers. I remember back in the big cut bait days of the late 90's early 2000's when we were running the big 11-13" flashers and meat a lot of times we'd ONLY have 2 rods in the water, both on the corner riggers with cut bait and a minimum of 20' of vertical separation. We were typically running 20-40 foot leads with the meat and those big flashers turned quite a big radius at those longer leads. It was a simple program and when you had it running properly, 2 rods kept you plenty busy and more lines in the water actually seemed to diminish the number of bites. THese days with flashers and flies, F/F off the riggers are every bit as productive as they are off of divers or long lines. I usually start the day with a mix of F/F and spoons on all presentations and let the fish tell me what they wont an any given day and adjust accordingly. Some days it's all an attractor bite and the spoons are dead, some times it's just the opposite, some days it doesn't matter and both get whacked. I think sometimes people get to wrapped up in the "conventional wisdom" on what presentation they should put where, and can really limit their productivity as a result. Tim
  8. Thanks guys, This weekend does take a great deal of effort on the part of a lot of people to pull together. It's always good to know that effort isn't wasted. Always good to see all of you. Even though my pathetic, sieve like memory prevents me from remembering very many names, I recogized a lot of faces in the crowd. What was very encouraging was that we had well over 50 people on Sunday Morning attend our Lake Ontario Trout and Salmon Beginners Class, Part One. It's great to see all the interest with new people entering the fishery. For those that attended that class, remember Part 2 is coming up in a couple weeks on Saturday, March 9 at the Newfane Community Center (Old Town Hall). Tim
  9. To follow up on Chris's comments above. I am also in the Environmental Remediation field and have never had elevated levels of any environmental toxins either and I have been in this business since 1991. But one thing in particular I'd like to comment on was about a friend of mine that fishes with me quite a bit who is on the Environmental Abatement side of the business (I'm on the Consulting/Remediation Project Design side). John was working on an asbestos abatement project at a well known Chemical Plant in Niagara Falls one summer several years ago and the entire crew was blood tested daily throughout the 2 month project to check for increases in mercury levels in their bloodstream. John was eating trout/salmon caught aboard my boat that entire time and never showed so much as a blip in the daily mercury blood tests. These tests are sensitive enough that if he was receiving ANY Mercury dosage from the fish he was eating, it WOULD have shown up in those daily blood tests as any spike in mercury levels would have prompted removal from that project. 10. you're missing Olcott
  11. what, that's it? That's all you're bringing
  12. Actually Rich, Cuomo is so insufferably arrogant that he actually thinks he cay buy off/score some points with NY Sportsmen for his Treasonous, Unconstitutional dead of night gun ban, by cutting a couple bucks off of our hunting and fishing license fees. The really sad and scary thing is, I honestly believe he thinks this will work. Tim
  13. The Lake Ontario Trout and Salmon Association would like to thank the following sponsors, who have donated door prizes for our upcoming LOTSA Fishing Expo and Flea Market this Sunday, Feb 24. Thanks to their generous donations, we will have over 70 door prizes to give away at the Expo with a total retail value of over $1,500. The $5.00 admission at the door (donation to pen rearing) automatically enters each attendee into the drawings which are held hourly throughout the day. http://www.lotsa.org/2013_LOTSA_EXPO.htm For More Information on the LOTSA Expo and Flea Market, please see out website at www.lotsa.org
  14. THat is for the set
  15. I run mine off the hardtop, with the reels and motors mounted to the rocket launcher and the front pullys mounted to the front of the port and starboard grab rails on the top of the HT. I sometimes wonder if these boards are going to rip those grab rails off. but that would take some major lateral pressure from the angle they are pulling when deployed. so far so good
  16. I believe that was for the plastic boards. I have the redwood boards and it's not necessary, but I DO have Cicso Electric Planer Reels. I was able to reel them in with manual reels with the boat at idle before I bought the motors and upraded, not fun, but doable. You'll get that with really good, quality, hard pulling boards. I just cant see the reason for the popularity of the OB,s which are more expensive than the Amish Outfitter boards and that you have to modify the crap out of to get them to run right.
  17. Nice video, missing the hero shot at the end though Tim
  18. You could sell the OB's and get the vastly superior Amish Outfitter redwood or plastic boards which pull incredibly hard right out out of the box without need for modification to run properly, and are collapsible. http://amishoutfitters.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=19 Tim
  19. Are THESE the High Capacity "Magazine Clips" the gun grabbing weenie-nazi's keep referring to?
  20. at least it's not something cliche' like a copper calling his boat "On the Lam"
  21. did have longer hair once upon a time (when I had hair), never had my wallet on a chain. Dropping acid, not a chance, I'm this twisted naturally
  22. FishStyx started out as an idea I had for a graphic for the boat (that I stll have never had made). Picture a viking longboat, with the grim reaper standing in the bow, a demon poling the boat down the River Styx and 2 guys fishing off the back, on our way to Tartarus/Purgatory. Yeah I know, nice mixing of mythologies Tim
  23. not to mention the 8 billion in federal harbor mainteneance funds that the feds are sitting on, while we have shallow draft harbors all over the great lakes that are in dire need of dredging.
  24. and the sadder thing is you can't trust anything you read in the New York Slimes to be true or accurate.
