  1. panfisher, when the 2nd amendment was penned, the musket WAS the "Assault Rifle" of the day. No offense, but after seeing your ignorant rant above, I agree, YOU probably shouldn't have access to guns, but leave the rest of us out of it.
  2. Niagara county has some kind of law that prohibits marinas from charging more than .10 cents over gas stations inland. I believe that's it but I could be wrong. [ Post made via Android ] I believe it is because they are municipal. Their prices have always been comparable to gas station prices for 89 octane. I've even seen Newfane Marina's price be lower than gas station prices for 89. That's why a lot of big boats come down to Olcott from Wilson to gas up, it's almost a buck a gallon cheaper 6 miles down the lake from the private marinas in Wilson. Tim
  3. Actually what I heard is that he was paying those extra 20 places in the Salmon Division. Tim
  4. The NRA is not a commercial organization and they are not in the business of selling guns, they are an organization that exists to protect the interests of a particular group of American Citizens, much the same as Boat US does for it's constituents. However, apart from that shallowly attempted deflection, the real cheap opportunists out there are those that will use this tragedy to try and advance their anti gun/gun banning agenda. You'll never prevent a psycho from doing what psycho's do, but disarming the victims is a really poor solution to the problem. rolmops, I don't think anyone thinks they need an M16 or AK 47 to defend their home, (really pathetic non-sequitur there by the way), but anyone that thinks or claims that society is made safer by disarming those that are not the problem, of whatever firearms they choose to possess, is being either unbelievably naive and simplistic, or disgracefully intellectually dishonest. 5. Unfortunately, We have just learned that Scotty Richardson (Hammer) has a conflict and will not be available to instruct at our Salmon School. Pete Alex and Tom Allen have been working at structuring the class over the past two months around the topics/questions submitted by the attendees. It's developing into another very detailed Lake Ontario based class (thanks Bob Cinelli and Vince Pierleoni for the detailed class the last two years) diving into the details that make both Pete and Tom so successful fishing Lake Ontario. The class is currently about 70% full so if you are planning on attending please don't wait too long to sign up as it will sell out soon as it does every year. We would also like your topics/questions soon to make sure they get incorporated into the class material. We apologize for the "Hammer" conflict and still plan on covering the area of running bait successfully in your spread that He was slated to cover in the class.
  6. The owners manual for the 5.0L V8 Mercruiser I/O that came with my 1986 Thompson says minimum 88 octane, so regular 87 octane gas is out. I have always gone with mid-grade and higher. I don't know about other Marinas, but the Gas Dock at the Town of Newfane Marina only has 89. Tim
  7. When I started tying my own fly leaders many years ago, I was using 50 Lb Ande Fluoro and it was very good, but I've been using 50 lb big game for years now and it works great as well. I really haven't noticed a difference in action or leader life since I started using Big Game. There's no need for fluoro at that pound test line IMO, regular mono is plenty stiff at 50 lb test. Tim
  8. I believe he's talking about the pro-ams.
  9. great, now I'm once again gonna be visiting this site a lot more than I already do normally, just to break strings of cyber lights
  10. LOTSA is excited to announce the addition of Scotty Richardson, better known on Lake Ontario as "Hammer" to compliment Pete Alex and Tom Allen as the instructors for our Salmon School on February 23rd. Scotty brings a tremendous amount of experience from both the Canadian and the US sides of the Lake on King fishing. He is going to focus on how he successfully incorporates the use of bait into his spread for Kings throughout the year.
  11. Jamie, yes, they did that specifically for bass, and select inland trout streams as well for catch and release during the closed season, but those exceptions are clearly called out in the regulations. Tim
  12. Damn Kids.... Happy Birthday Tim
  13. Maybe YOU need 1000' coppers Rich, but I sure don't
  14. replaced the old Steel Hulled Kaho http://blog.syracuse.com/outdoors/2012/ ... essel.html
  15. I have my 2 color core on an old Penn 209, with 17 lb Trilene XT backing. The slow retrieve of the 209 isn't too painful with a 2 color. Tim
  16. Happy Birthday Bob!!!
  17. longer copper should be closer to the boat, so that if the outside line gets hit, it will swing in behind the boat above the deeper inside line. The other way around, the longer (deeper) outside line would tangle with the higher inside line when it got hit. Tim
  18. well this is the time of year they stock the coho as fall fingerlings and they seem to survive just fine and smolt the following spring, so I'd guess they'll be ok. Gotta be better survival than pitching the surplus in the dumpster
  19. I'm not trying to win anything Pete, just letting him know what the regulations clearly and unambiguously state.
  20. you cannot actively target ANY out of season fish in NY http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/31416.html
  21. FYI, Lake Trout season is closed until the first of the year.
  22. As Part of our 2013 LOTSA Salmon Spectacular Weekend, on Saturday, February 23, 2013, the day before our Expo and Flea Market, The Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association is proud to sponsor two of the finest and most successful fisherman on Lake Ontario, Captain Pete Alex of Vision Quest Sportfishing and Tom Allen of A-Tom-Mik Manufacturing, for a full day Salmon Fishing Clinic. Captain Pete and Tom have consistently won or highly placed in many Tournaments, all over Lake Ontario, on both the New York and Ontario Sides of the Lake. As guys that are like most of us, Pete and Tom are NOT full time Lake Ontario Charter Captains and can offer a unique perspective on the challenges of getting to a strange port and successfully locating and getting on the fish as needed to successfully fish tournaments, based on only a day or two of Pre-Fishing, similar to the challenges all of us recreational weekend warriors face as we fish the numerous Derbies and Tournaments, or just travel to the hot fishing ports around the lake as the season progresses. Pete and Tom are sure to bring you an outstanding and informative presentation, specifically geared towards being successful on OUR lake, regardless of the port you fish out of. The Seminar will be at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4H Building in Lockport, NY. 4487 Lake Ave (Rte 78), Lockport, NY 14094, approx 2 miles north of Lockport. The cost of the School is $70.00 and will include lunch and a Goodie Bag full of effective Lake Ontario Tackle. Seating is limited to the first 100 registrants and is first come first serve, so this Seminar is bound to sell out quickly. For more information and Seminar Registrations go to our website http://www.lotsa.org
  23. I don't necessarily agree with Jason. Have you already determined you have an electrical charge/grounding problem? If not, you should definitely do that before you make the purchase. When I got my current boat, I couldn't get a rigger bite to save my life, plenty of diver and lead core shots, but I could count the number of rigger bites over the course of a season on two hands and have fingers left over, so I took my multi meter and determined that I was putting between .2 and .3 v down the rigger cables. so I bought the Cabela's black box (same as the ProTroll unit) installed it and all of a sudden, I had a rigger bite again. Over the years, I've done so much work on the boat that I corrected whatever the grounding problem was and it's no longer necessary, so I don't even have it installed on the boat anymore, but I absolutely believe it helped at the time. So, to summarize, if you don't currently have a grounding problem and aren't throwing a repelling charge in the water, it is a waste of money. If you do have a ground problem somewhere, it can be a very helpful solution while you trouble shoot and track down/fix the cause of the issue. The Cabelas/Pro Troll unit has a transmitting coil that goes on each rigger cable and that worked great for me. Tim
  24. Ryan, Should be a great one. We fully booked the room in 2 1/2 weeks and have several additional interested vendors on a waiting list. Lots of interest this year.
