  1. Out of Olcott/Wilson down to about 30 Mile Point you have the main current coming out of the Niagara River that flows west to east. On the inside of that there is a back eddy where the current reverses direction and comes back east to west. That current can be pretty severe at times. Yes there are certain areas that consistently hold fish. There are some subtle structure elements out there that don't really show up on the graph but are sufficient to attract bait and fish. For years now, we have made it a habit of marking a waypoint on the garmin for every bite and I let them collect over the course of a season. I don't delete them till the start of the next season and every year when I go to delete last years marks, I have waypoints piled on top of waypoints on top of waypoints in the same spots, year after year. 2. That's what I was saying over in the Oswego Thread. I think we are way ahead of schedule and it looks like we are already in the Transition that normally happens in June. Tim Tim, According to our record at work, the intake water temp is running 8 degrees ahead of last year at this time and 5 degrees ahead of the year before for this date. Brian, That sounds about right. Last year the lake had set up at the end of June and we had our traditional 4th of July time frame start of consistent summer fishing out of Olcott. Two years ago was kind of an early spring and our summer fishing started around Fathers Day Weekend. Based on that, I'd say the current temps reflect the very early spring we had this year. Looking at the coastwatch surface temp maps, we have 60 deg on shore and 57 -58 deg in the middle of the lake. Nothing even remotely resembling a thermal bar setting up. Hopefully it stays warm and the lake sets up quick.

  4. I would make sure when you pull the boat to trailer home, you check/change your lower unit oil..... Any water or milky oil in there and it would be wise to change your seal. Good luck. Wish I was out there this week...But I'm running charters in OZ..I will be back out this weekend though. Keep up the reports ! Lots of people like to follow you and your success via this thread! Where are the pictures of the dog? Make sure you throw that tennis ball twice as much as YOU want to. Pup had too much play time hes down below sleeping! You think that lure could cause water to get in? Now im worried, I think theresa is goin swimmin when we get back to the marina... [ Post made via Android ] FWIW, swimming in a Marina is potentially dangerous with all of the stray currents from shore power etc., and not knowing who's got messed up boat wiring. You'd be much safer anchoring in shallow water outside of the harbor where there is no chance of electrocution. Tim
  5. I think with everything ahead of schedule like it is, we are already seeing the start of the transition period between the spring the lake setting up for the summer fishing that normally occurs in mid June Tim
  6. Update, we just overtook first place, now lets put some distance between us and the competition.
  7. as of this moment we are only 3 votes away from overtaking first place. Lets kick Waddington to the curb already Tim
  8. Bump Looks like we are slowly gaining ground on Waddington After you vote, don't forget to click the links to post it on Facebook and twitter (if you re on those) for bonus votes each time between voting with my facebook account and my email address, with the bonus votes each time, I'm good for 6 votes a round. Tim
  9. spinal injury in the hatchery.
  10. Mortigan, Fifty Point is at the far Western south shore, you can see it on the Ports o Call Map Tim
  11. I believe the bait is way inshore spawning right now, inside of where we were fishing. I suspect the kings are making quick foraging raids way inside, eating their fill, and moving back out to the deeper water they are more comfortable in. I didn't look at any of the stomachs this weekend, but I was out on a friends boat last Sunday (the 6th ) and despite not marking any bait on the graph, one of the kings we cleaned on the water had between 15 and 20 alewives of at least 3 different year classes crammed into it's stomach. Once the alewives finish their business in tight, we'll start seeing them on the graphs. Tim
  12. yup. I always let my divers creep out on a fairly light drag. First thing in the morning in particular, you'd be amazed how many fish whack it way up high out of temp as it is creeping out, fishing it's way to where you plan to set it. Tim
  13. Not sure how it could have gotten here, but that first one really kind of looks like a Lake Superior Redfin strain Laker. This is an example of a redfin that I copied from a Lake Superior Charters Website. They jig for these bad boys at Stannard Rock. I believe the feds have been experimenting with different strains of laker lately, but I wasn't aware that redfins were one of them. Tim
  14. Tim, Do you twist the line into your Scotty releases or just clip it in? Jay Jay, I twist the line and bury the twisted double line in the back of the release. you can load the crap out of the rods and never get a false release, yet shakers are easily detected. Last year I had a rigger down 200+ feet on occasion and it worked great. Tim
  15. Lots of guys love em. I can't stand em myself, never have, never will. I think the Scotty Power Grip Pinch Pad releases are superior in every way imaginable. Tim
  16. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Glen!!
  17. When I fish, I ALWAYS post detailed reports, good OR bad to the point that I have been known to irritate some people with the level of detail I provide. I would humbly suggest that you get over yourself, you're just making yourself look foolish.
  18. How does the saying go: How do you make a small fortune as a charter captain............. Start with a large fortune.
  19. or a more rapid demise from a sudden case of acute lead poisoning, if you catch my drift.
  20. I haven't heard the total number Brian, but on a positive note, I'm pretty sure all of the pen projects got their full allotment. I know our project in Olcott did and I'm pretty sure the Oak did as well so I would assume any shortfalls would be in the direct stocked numbers. Tim
  21. They're a little pricy, but Cisco's are the bomb. All CNC machined Aircraft Aluminum, no plastic on them at all. They come in both manual and electric. I started with the manuals and bought the motors later and converted them. http://www.ciscofishingsystemsltd.com/ Tim
  22. And so what if they do, that's how beginners learn the ropes. Nothing breeds continued interest like success and likewise, there is nothing more discouraging than going out not knowing what to do, struggling and pitching a skunk when everybody else is filling the boat. Like I said, this isn't Salmon Crazy and we aren't fishing the tressle on that disgraceful circus freak that is the Salmon River. This is a very big lake and there's room enough for everyone to be successful. Tim try fishing the harbor in oswego with 45 other boats there and people putting their boards 150 feet... the mentality and attitudes are similar Why would I want to do that when I already fish on the "good" end of the lake
