  1. See I just have a different mentality. Sure if I have never been to an area before I will ask things like directions what the shore line is like things like that. I guess there is just a difference between fishing and catching to me.. you read some people in the report sections and they want precise locations, FOW, rigger depth, color spoon to run and so on And so what if they do, that's how beginners learn the ropes. Nothing breeds continued interest like success and likewise, there is nothing more discouraging than going out not knowing what to do, struggling and pitching a skunk when everybody else is filling the boat. Like I said, this isn't Salmon Crazy and we aren't fishing the tressle on that disgraceful circus freak that is the Salmon River. This is a very big lake and there's room enough for everyone to be successful. Tim
  2. No offense but your home port is olcott. You have this every yr. East end fisherman don't. We actually have to know how to fish to catch them [ Post made via Android ] That is quite possibly, the stupidest statement I've ever seen on this site. Ignorance, with just a touch of arrogance, nice combination. Well done sir, well done
  3. bandrus, you need to get out of stream mode dude, this isn't Salmon Crazy.
  4. shhhhhhhhhh its a secret.......
  5. you got a picture of the steelie/coho? 13 lb 'ho this time of year is a heck of a fish. Tim
  6. Yeah, but like Vince said, our pen fish are recovering nicely. I took my niece up to feed the fish at Olcott on Saturday and our pen kings are nice and healthy and super aggressive.
  7. I will say this, kings DOOOOO love a kelly green dipsy..
  8. On Thursday May 10h at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a “Round Table†discussion on current Lake Ontario fishing along the Niagara County shoreline. This “Round Table†will be made up of experienced LOTSA members who are currently fishing the Lake. They will share their current experiences including where they are fishing along with their techniques and best baits. It will be an interactive session encouraging questions from the audience. Both experienced and novice Lake Ontario anglers will benefit from this session. The timing of this event is very relevant as it falls in the middle of Lake Ontario Counties Spring Trout & Salmon Derby and two days before the Wilson Harbor Invitational Salmon Tournament. Fishermen who are vacationing in our area to fish these events are most welcome to attend. LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a sharing of information the current fishing conditions. So come join us and become more successful at fishing Lake Ontario! The meeting will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78 two miles north of Lockport), Lockport, NY 14094. The Seminar is open to the public with a $5 charge for non members. See WWW.LOTSA.ORG for any questions.
  9. ummmmmmmm...... check your math maybe???
  10. Yep I run lots of R&R's. What's nice about them, especially the Superlights is that they are tremendously speed tolerant, so they mix well with whatever else I might have in the water. Tim
  11. I run both, and typically if we are fishing that part of the water column, I'll have both out. the 10 color on one side and the 200 copper on the other and my experience has been that the 200 copper always seems to take more shots than the lead core. Tim
  12. Same with my Amish Outfitter Redwood boards, collapsible for storage, pulled like a @#$% right out of the box and they're cheaper than the Otters. I also went with the Cisco Electric Planer reels, all CNC machined aircraft aluminum, NO plastic at all, and the motors are twice the size of the Big Jon electric motors. I have em mounted on the rocket launcher on my hardtop. These boards pull so hard they just folded the plastic Wille planer reels I used to have mounted on the inside of my gunwales trying to reel them in. Tim
  13. I have most of the sticks out there and they'll all catch fish in the right conditions. I've always had better luck with jointed rapalas than straight. In a good mudline, IMO, you CANNOT beat a Smithwick Rattlin' Rogue for pulling fish out of the dirty water. Tim
  14. Mike, I'm sorry, I have no idea. I've never tried running my Depth Raider on an uncoated cable. Tim
  15. And that you wouldn't have to buy extra stuff and modify the crap out of them to make em run right...
  16. yes, connect the wire/mono with a #8 spro power swivel 20 feet of mono/FC seems about optimal.
  17. I just checked it and the registration form seems to be working ok
  18. Not sure what the problem was with Marks, but there are lots of guys running the Starfire diver rods out there without issue. Maybe his got damaged somehow without him realizing it. I wouldn't worry about it, stuff happens. Tim
  19. Ive got twilli tips on my wire diver rods that are 12 years old and have NEVER had that happen and before your post today, never even heard of it happening with twilli tips. One of the big reasons for the twilli tip is the gradual curve the spring gives it at the tip. The last time I replaced my wire (30 lb Malin) the old wire was 6 or 7 season old and the only reason I replaced the wire was because it was starting to get a little short. The only stories I've ever heard about wire fraying was some of the early 19 strand torpedo wire, but AFAIK, they fixed that issue. Tim
  20. yup, I've been running Church Walleye boards for years, usually run them much more than I do my big boards Tim
  21. a fishfinder is a sonar device that graphically displays both the depth and whatever the boat passes over. A chartplotter is a GPS unit with scanned nautical charts that the gps satellite track is overlaid that also shows compass heading, speed over ground etc. you can save waypoints on the chart plotter (such as where you marked a lot of bait on the fishfinder or where you caught a fish) and can use the waypoints to navigate back to the same area. Tim
  22. I don't know Jeff, Every time I've spooled up my SG47LCA wire diver reels with new wire, a 1000' spool of 30 lb Malin filled it perfectly with no backing. I know in theory, you should never get down that far for it to be an issue, but personally, I don't want any more knots in the system that are absolutely necessary. Tim
  23. unless you buy one for the observer placed on your boat for the short time you need them to have one. Could probably happen after the Captains meeting Friday evening.
