spring fishing-what do you wear on your feet?
Tim Bromund replied to times two's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Crocs are nothing but cheesy looking plastic clogs. I refused to wear clogs back in the 70's and I ain't about to start now. Tim -
you mean something like this http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7749.html

or you're like me and have many hundreds of spoons, yet the same dozen are on the dashboard of the boat at the end of every season. And, I NEVER buy just one of ANYTHING Hi My name is Tim and I'm a tackle addict. Tim

No special rod needed, I just use 8 1/2' Daiwa Heartland rigger rods for short cores (2, 3 and 5 color) and a 9 1/2' Heartland Diver rod for my 10 color. Tim

All freshwater areas of NYS except some of those with special regulations in place. I like it. I don't normally run a lot of rods and am usually a big believer in the less is more philosophy at times, but my regular spread is six rods and seldom run more than that even with 4 or more people on board, but more and more lately, it seems to be just Dad and I on board, so it is really nice to be able to able to run my regular program instead of choosing which rods have to stay in the cabin like when it was 2 per and I could only run 4. Olcott is lights out from mid-late June through the entire month of July. Finding Kings get a little sketchy at times when you start getting into August, but there's always something to play with out there. There isn't a port on the lake I'd rather fish out of that time of year. Luckily, just like Vince, it also happens to be my home port. Tim

Joe, Sorry, I wasn't referring to you, I was talking about those "Captains" you referenced. Personally I don't think it is something you really need to concern yourself about. It is widely believed that the turbulence/noise from your cannonballs going through the water attracts fish and draw's them into your spread, so I really doubt the color of your cable will affect them one way or the other since I don't really see riggers as a "stealth" presentation . When I was running my old Cannon Mag 10A's I had the darker Cannon "Camo" downrigger cable on them. With my current Scotty Riggers, my probe rigger has black coated cable and my non probe rigger has the bright silver Scotty Rigger cable and I cannot honestly say that I've ever seen a time when I thought it made a difference in how many hits a rigger took. Over the course of a season I'd say they both take about the same number of shots. It may vary from day to day, but I believe that has more to do with what I'm running on that rigger than the color of the cable. All of that said, if it gives you more confidence in your program, by all means, get the dark wire. Tim

That would be Bob dunking for Goby's Andy. Management gives him a hard time every year for it. Ahhh, that would be so that he can make his world famous "Adirondack Goby Chowder".... now I'm trackin' Tim

I think some people try way to hard to search for reasons why they did or didn't catch fish. Rigger cable color is quite a stretch IMO. Tim

1000 feet of 30 lb wire fills that reel perfectly with no backing needed. Just put a wrap of electrical or duct tape on the spool to give the wire something to bite into otherwise it will spin on the spool. Tim

I believe Iceman just bought a Hewescraft from Calumet new last season. I don't think it was quite that big, but perhaps he'll chime in now that he has a season on it under his belt. In the unlikely event I was ever going to go aluminum, chances are really good it would be one of the bigger Hewescraft Pilothouse Models. Tim

Actually, with the Packers out of it and I don't really have a team to root for, all I need now is just a good football game. Good luck to all of you who still have a horse in the race. Tim

email address to get us suggestions/topics can be sent to [email protected] Thanks Tim -
Of course as a long suffering Bills Fan, my ideal scenario would be for a patsies - girliemen rematch in the dance, and for both teams to perish in a fiery cataclysm. Tim

Tim Bromund replied to Tim Bromund's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Just wanted to throw this back up to the top since we are now fully booked with another full room of exhibitors, including several new participants this year. Take a look and see who we have coming and be sure to check back as several of our exhibitors will be adding show special as we get closer to the Expo. Hope to see you all at the show in February. Girlie men fans are better than what? They're just like spankmees fans, insufferably obnoxious and irritating, very much like a venereal disease might be. Go Niners!!!!!

Congrats Stan!! Niners win?? Bring em' on
Tim Bromund replied to on the lam's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Nope, I'm a Buffalo native, Dad's home town is Marinette, Wisconsin, which is located on the west side of Green Bay about 50 miles up from the City and I still have family all over that area and the UP of Michigan. The Bills and the Packers have been my two home teams my entire life. Being in different conferences, there's not too much of a conflict normally. I'm just happy that one of em doesn't suck. Oh, and by the way, the girlie men -

Yeah.... Right....Good luck on the girlie men beating my Packers -
I would say yes absolutely. I think the kings have taken advantage of the warm water and have had the feed bag strapped on like it was May for the past 3 months. I would expect fish to be at least 3-5 lbs bigger on average next year. WooHoo!!! Tim

I've heard on more than one occasion that the main reason treble hooks are installed with the 2 points down is simply because they fit in the blister packs better that way. Most spoons with singles come point down. R&R spoons come with single hooks point up. Both ways hook fish equally well IMO. Tim
-
Hardly an impartially asked question IMO. Kind of like : Have you stopped beating your wife?

I added, Lenco electrics to my Thompson and they work great. There are a number of high quality boat manufacturers that install Lenco's as factory equipment. The electric actuators on the Lenco tabs have a much faster response time than the Bennet Hydraulic tabs. That being said, Bennet's have a rock solid reputation for quality and dependability and from everything I've seen, their customer service is reputed to be second to none. I think the Lenco's are probably easier to install as there are no hydraulic systems to deal with, but I don't really think you can go wrong with either one. Tim
