  1. Chris Gatley, a new guy on here is a rep for Navionics, so hopefully he'll see this thread and respond. Tim
  2. well the short answer is .... it depends. It depends on what species you are targeting It depends on if you are looking for numbers or size It depends on time of day It depends on what part of the season
  3. Here is the chart from the DEC http://www.lotsa.org/Stocked_Salmonids_Expected_in_Lake_Ontario_2011.pdf Tim
  4. Update on the BW fly, After searching the Big Weenie Website, near as I can tell from the pictures and description, the fly that matches up so well with the Shocker SD is called "Cornbread" That SD/Fly combo has taken quite a few nice fish last 2 trips out.
  5. That is a seriously chunky coho right there. Nice. Tim
  6. few weeks?? Lets hope they stick around for the rest of the summer Tim
  7. Rumor has it, this is happening as a result of OUR Government asking Canada to tighten border security. One has to wonder if the SAME request was forwarded to Mexico. Tim
  8. hit the lake about 6:00 to find it a bit rougher than I was expecting. Dad and I motored out to about 80 fow and started setting lines on a NW troll. Old School NK28 Black and Purple took a decent king on the 65' rigger before all the rods were set and then didn't move another rod for an hour and a half, come to find we were dragging a tiny skippie on the probe rigger that didn't even bounce the rod even with the long thethered scotty release. it looked like lots of boats were hooking up in that inside water (<150) but we weren't doing much, so I decided to troll north. We found a nice bunch of fish between 250 and 300 fow and ended up 12-17 with one more decent king in the box and releasing a bunch of 7-10 lb teenagers and one nice steelie. riggers were hot at 75 and 85 feet, 85' rigger with a glow wonderbread protroll and atommik hammer fly and the 75 foot probe rigger with an Atommik Shocker SD and a matching Big Weenie fly. Sorry, don't know what BW it was, I got it at the LOTSA Expo last year and didn't have a name on the baggie, it was green/chart with some rubber/latex in the skirt and matches the Shocker SD perfectly. Crome/Green SD with a mirage fly on the 180' diver took several shots late. Decent Day in fairly rough, close wavelength seas. Met hawkeye625 from here on LOU at the Olcott cleaning station also. 1st fish of the day on the NK B/P And Where have we seen THIS before Tim
  9. yeah, I know, I forgot to bring it to work with me on friday. I'll get it up here next week. Tim
  10. Nice!!
  11. Thanks for the report, FWIW, the fish in your pic is a king Tim
  12. I know this isn't at all fishing related but as we are heading into the 4th of July holiday weekend, I just had to point this one out.... The world is full of degenerate, bottom feeding scumbags, and then there is THIS guy: http://www.eagletribune.com/newhampshir ... edit-cards What an absolute disgrace to humanity. Tim
  13. I've got the Amish Outfitter redwood boards and they pull a lot harder the otter boats even with the extra 1/2 keel. Tim
  14. I've been using Malin for years and been really happy with it. It scored pretty well in that test. I think I'll keep using it. Tim
  15. Just don't see how they can enforce it on a 300 boat pack, consisting of boats from both countries, all crossing the line repeatedly all day long. I don't think they have the equipment or manpower for that kind of enforcement action, neither do we for that matter. Tim
  16. Logistically, It's just not possible.
  17. yup, if you break 30 lb wire and lose the diver and everything else, your drag is WAY too tight. It's supposed to let line out before it reaches the breaking point. I'm not trying to be offensive, but between you and Howitzer, I don't think I've ever seen a greener couple guys on these boards. What both of you need to do is make some friends that salmon fish and go out with them or even better, go out on some charters and make sure they know that you want it to be a learning/teaching charter, not just a fish catching charter. If you aren't there already, you should also register on spoonpullers.com, which is a Canadian based site with lots of really good guys that will most likely be more than willing to show some newbes the ropes. http://spoonpullers.proboards.com/index.cgi? By the way, that's a really nice looking atlantic salmon the lad is wrapped around in your avatar. Tim
  18. Rod, I don't normally go anywhere near the bar in the spring (mostly because I keep the boar docked in Olcott and it's an 18+ mile run to the red can) and if I do, I know where the boarder is on my GPS. I haven't gotten a Canadian license in years, mostly due to the fact at until recently when I got my NYS Enhanced Drivers License, since I don't have a passport,I had no way to get back into my own country. Paul, yes the river in the winter will be ugly too, but I was referring more to them trying to enforce this on the huge boat pack of both NY and Canadian boats you can see trolling the drop on any spring weekend that depending on where the main concentration of fish is, may criss cross the border a dozen times a day. Tim
  19. At the risk or repeating myself, I'd REALLY like to see them try and enforce this on the Niagara Bar on any spring weekend. Tim
  20. I'll scan it both as a PDF and as jpgs and post them up here tomorrow. Tim
  21. Geez Rod, with a name like spook I was expecting it to be black and glow. Tim
  22. except of course for the couple skippies I took off the 200' rigger on Sunday (only fish caught on the super deep rigger were dinks). Sometimes you just cannot avoid em and all you can do is pull lines and try a different area. Tim
  23. I have the 2011 DEC stocking and fin clip chart which lists stocking numbers and various fin clipping patterns for all trout and salmon stocked on both the NY and the Ontario side of the pond. The only left ventricle stocked steelhead in the lake are spring yearling Skamania Strain Steelhead stocked in the Salmon River. Based on the estimated size in the picture, I'd guess that was an age 2 (2009 year class) or age 3 (2008 year class) probably heading to the river on it's first spawning run. Tim
  24. On Thursday July 14th at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a Seminar Trout and Salmon fishing on Lake Ontario. This seminar will be put on by veteran angler Marlow Beis. Marlowe will explain the impact that wind and currents have on successfully catching Trout & Salmon in Lake Ontario. This seminar will provide both beginners and experience trollers with information to become more successful on the lake. LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a sharing of information the current fishing conditions. So come join us and become more successful at fishing Lake Ontario! The meeting will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78 two miles north of Lockport), Lockport, NY 14094. The Seminar is free and open to the public.
