Here's a typical screen shot of the graph while we were laker fishing Tim -
so, how do you stop the Power Pro from slipping on the spool? It'll spin without tape same as the wire will. Tim

very nice, almost looks like a chin-ho hybrid in the picture. Tim -
Just wanted to follow up on this and mention that Raymarine did respond with pretty much the same as Kevin did above, although with a lot less detail. I'm just going to have to spend some time playing around with the manual settings this year. At least Kevin's info gives me a good starting point. Tim

On Thursday April 14th at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a Seminar on Spring Fishing Lake Ontario for King Salmon off of the Niagara County shoreline. This seminar will be put on by Captain Paul Czarnecki who runs the Charter boat “Free Spiritâ€. Captain Paul moves the home base for his Charter operation to Wilson every Spring because the Spring King fishing at this end of the lake is the best in all of the Great Lakes. Captain Paul will review the tackle and techniques he uses every day to provide his Clients with limit catches of Kings. This seminar will provide beginners with a starting point to catch their first Kings along with providing experienced trollers those little things to make them more successful this Spring. LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a sharing of information the current fishing conditions. So come join us and become more successful at fishing Lake Ontario! The meeting will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78 two miles north of Lockport), Lockport, NY 14094. The Seminar is open to the public with a $5 charge for non members. See http://www.lotsa.org for any questions.

Amish Outfitters boards are the hardest pulling boards you'll ever find. I have the redwood boards and they pull like crazy, supposedly their plastic boards pull even harder. I upgraded my Cicso planer reels from manual to electric this year because these boards pull so hard they are REALLY no fun to crank in by hand. http://www.amishoutfitters.com/catalog.htm Tim

If you're saying what I think you're saying, that's just the nature of copper line. Is it spooling loose, as in loose coils on the reel, or is it slipping on the spool arbor? The loose coils (which makes the constant backlashes and birds nests so much fun is just part of fishing copper. If it is braid backing slipping on the spool arbor, the only fix is to empty the reel and put a wrap of (duct or electrical) tape down over the loop and knot to keep the backing from slipping. Tim

Adam, yer killin' me Tim -
Steve, An Amish Outfitters Beefy Bag only lasted one season? That doesn't sound right. Beefy Bags are the best built trolling bags out there. Have you contacted Frank at Amish Outfitters about this to see if they would replace it? I have 2 28" Beefy Bags that are 5 years old and still look like new, so signs of any wear or fraying at all. Tim Bromund replied to FISHBANDIT's topic in This Old Boat
Here's the Coast Guard Safety Page with both fed and state requirements under the Regulations tab You have to do a little searching but all the info you need is there. http://www.uscgboating.org/ Tim -
and still a good king spoon off the riggers.

If you don't run em, you should, loco's caught fish 20-30 years ago and they still catch fish today. Tim

Well Tom, you ARE the Mayor of Oswego, Aren't you???

Nope I meant it as a dedicated cheerleader for the home town, no matter what. Tim

OK Tom, and how's the king fishing out of Oswego in mid June?? Is Oswego somehow immune to the lake transition period? I'm just sayin' Tim

Olcott is my home port, but as an overall fishing town, I also gotta pick the Oak. Olcott has great fishing all season long as well, but in all honesty, everything else doesn't come close to what Oak Orchard offers. Tim

Filling a daiwa 57 LC with 7 stranded wire.
Tim Bromund replied to rolmops's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Personally I don't think it matters, I've been using the bright Malin wire for years and had the camo Mason wire before that and both caught fish equally well IMO. I like the malin wire because it is softer and easier to work with. Lots of guys on here love the AFW camo wire that Tom sells (Atommik). Tim -

Tim Bromund replied to rolmops's topic in Tackle and Techniques
put a wrap of electrical tape or duct tape on the spool arbor first to give the wire (or braid) something to bite into. What I actually do is I tie the line on first and the wrap the tape over the loop and knot, that both gives the wire something to grab and physically holds the line in place on the spool. Probably a little overkill, but it works. 30 lb is definitely more forgiving. Tim -
Back before fleas made it impossible, all I ever ran on my rigger rods was 12 lb Trilene XT on Penn 209 reels. Don't believe I ever had a break off. Super smooth drags are the key with light line like that I also think the slower retrieve on the Penn helped as it makes it tougher to horse a fish in. Tim

I've always been a Berkley guy and they have served me very well (not sure what problems Brian has had, but I've had nothing but great luck with Big Game, Trilene XT and Trilene XL) Berkley line is all I use. Now Stren on the other hand, that's a line you couldn't get me to use for anything. However, apart from that, I absolutely agree that Vanish is junk, I've always had great luck with Seguar fluorocarbon. Tim
