Hi John, Oh Yeah I know. Right now. the only thing I currently have it recording is Ted Nugent's Spirit of the Wild. I just don't watch TV enough to have even realized it was being aired to set the DVR to record it. Tim
-
I have Dish and the Sportsmans Channel also, maybe if I actually turned the TV on occasionally, I'd see an episode Tim

I don't know, I've seen a LOT of fiberglass reproductions and to me the look like.... well.... a painted piece of plastic. Tim

yup, the large numbers on my Depth Raider display mounted on the dash are easily seen from the back of the boat. Looks like the X4 is the same. The Sub Troll analog speed display is huge and easily seen but the digital temp display is pretty small. Tim

I just find them very cumbersome and difficult to use. The Scottys have all of the supposed advantages of the blacks without any of my personal negatives. You can absolutely load the crap out of the rods with NO false releases; IMO, they are much easier to get the line into; there is certainly no added drag from them; and much easier to see shakers on the line. In a head to head comparison, the blacks come in a weak and distant second place IMO. Seriously, if blacks were the only releases available, I'd invent something else so I wouldn't have to use them. Scottys I hate blacks style releases. I still have no idea why they are so popular, I think they suck. I don't care if every other boat on the lake is using them, I'll STILL think they suck. Tim

Barton Hill Hotel and Spa, the historically hip Inn and Spa located on the banks of the Niagara river is offering a “LOTSA Show Special†for the weekend of the event. Rooms will be available for guests who identify themselves as “LOTSA†attendees at a rate of $89 double occupancy. The rooms feature one king or 2 queen beds, and additional guests may be added for $20 per person. This rate also includes breakfast in the morning. As well, the restaurant will be offering 2 for 1 entrée specials that weekend for attendees. (Reservations are recommended). Located in the village of Lewiston there is plenty to see and do. Some local shops, including Zeeter’s Outdoor Stuff, (facebook.com/zeeters) will be offering weekend specials as well. Between the River, the shops, the spa and the restaurants, there will be plenty to add to the weekend activities. Visit www.bartonhillhotel.com for more information or call 800-716-9070 for reservations Lewiston is a little bit more of a drive, but from everything I've heard, this is a really nice place and that is a pretty good rate, they are normally over $100 a night. So who all from the LOU Community are planning on coming to see Capt Vince Pierleoni and Capt Bob Cinelli's Seminar on Saturday the 26th? We were thinking that during the lunch break, if there was some interest, that we would reserve several tables for LOU members to sit together, meet and greet, put faces to names and all that sort of stuff. Tables are almost fully booked for the Expo on Sunday, so there should be lots of good deals again this year. We are also closing in on a hotel deal for the weekend and I will be posting those details as soon as it is finalized. Anyways, respond here if you are already registered for or are planning on registering for Saturday and/or coming to the Expo. Lets get some discussion going on this. Personally I'm really looking forward to learning all of Vince's secrets Tim

Tim Bromund replied to Tim Bromund's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Just wanted to follow with the times for Captain Vince Pierleoni's and Captain Bob Cinelli's Seminar on Saturday Feb 26, 2011. The hours are from 09:00 am til 3:00 pm. Doors open at 8:00. More info and registrations can be found at http://www.lotsa.org Tim -
Thanks Kevin, considering that it replaced a 13 yo Lowrance LMS 350A, I'm not at all surprised I never saw it with that old dinosaur of a unit. It may just have been that with August being as screwy as it was this year, I ran offshore for steel more than I normally do. I'll probably try to get a hold of you before the season starts to figure out the best settings for this unit. Tim

I believe I have 5 seasons on my current coated cable, possibly six (don't remember anymore if I got my Depth Raider in 2004 or 2005). I'll probably replace it this year, just because it's lost some length over the years from re-terminating the end. Tim

LOTSA (Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association) will be sponsoring their 4th annual Super Salmon Weekend on February 26th and 27th. On Saturday the 26th we will continue our run of bringing experts in to put on a advanced clinic on Trout & Salmon fishing. The previous two years have featured experts from Lake Michigan. This year our experts are two of the best on Lake Ontario, Captains Vince Pierleoni and Bob Cinelli. Vince and Bob have been working on their material since last June and will be sharing the detailed things that they use every day to be so successful. This 6 hour clinic is limited to the first 100 anglers that register and has quickly sold out the past two years. On Sunday the 27th we be holding our Expo featuring many Charter Captains, Tackle Manufacturers and Fishing Related Businesses selling both new and used equipment. This is the largest Great Lakes Fishing oriented show open to the public on Lake Ontario. The ability to see the latest tackle, electronics, etc. along with “Show Special†pricing on both new and used equipment have drawn good crowds the past 3 years. Admission to the show is $5 for adults (kids under 16 are free) which is fully donated to Pen Rearing. We have raised $5,500 the past 3 years and hope to add at least another $2,500 to that total with this show. Hourly drawings for Door Prizes will be made throughout the day. Manufacturers who have agreed to provide prizes so far include Dreamweaver, Sigg’s Rigs, A-TOM-MIK, NK, Big Weenie, Chamberlain Downrigger Releases and Mustad Hooks. This year instead of Seminars throughout the day on Sunday, we are going to use these slots to help recruit new Fishermen. In the morning, a free Clinic will be presented, focused on helping beginners to our Lake Fishery with some of the basic information and gear needed to get them started (as well as inform them of the goodies they need to look for in the main room. The afternoon free clinic is focused on getting Kids and their parents started fishing. The kids clinic will be by signup only (limited to the first 40) as we plan to give out rods/reels and tackle to the participants. The details for all of the above including the Manufacturers/Charter Captains in attendance, signup for the 26th Seminar and Kids Class are available at www.lotsa.org

Thanks guys, I'll definitely contact Raymarine and see what they say. I'll also adjust the angle on the transducer forward a little bit before i drop it in the slip this spring and see if that helps. Problem is, I don't have a tow vehicle anymore and borrow the diesel truck from work in the spring and fall for put in and take out, so once it's in, it'll be a big hassle to pull it for further adjustments. Just thought it was odd, as I never had that happen with my old Lowrance LMS350A in the 12 or 13 years I ran it. When passing over a big ball of bait, this new Raymarine unit has also frequently read the top of the bait pod as bottom Big Dave, it wasn't in the spring, it was August chasing offshore steelhead. OK I guess it's time to look for some opinions on this before the next boating/fishing season starts. 2 years ago I took advantage of the smokin' deal that Bethel Marine had and retired my old LMS350A for a new Ray DS600X color graph. Overall I have been extremely pleased with it, but this past summer it would occasionally do something really odd. Not all the time, but every so often, when I had the transducer side rigger running shallow (40-50 down), it would lose bottom signal and start reading the rigger ball as the bottom. It didn't matter where I had the sensitivity level set, but I really don't think it's a situation that should EVER occur. It is the Airmar P66 dual frequency transom mount transducer. Anyone have any thoughts as to what might be causing that and how to correct it? I usually had to either swing the rigger 90 deg out, perpendicular to the gunwale to get the ball out of the transducer cone, or make that the deep rigger so that the blowback would take it out of majority of the cone. I usually have the other rigger (my probe rigger) as the deep one. Thanks, Tim

Seems to me that Lenco Electric trim tab actuators make for a pretty expensive antenna lowerer Tim

It's amazing how much some people want to believe the sky is falling and refuse to even consider the possibility that it is not. Must be a dreadful way to live IMO. Tim

Why not Ray, they are made out of Venison too?? Tim
