  1. Hey, what are those funny lookin' green fish Just kidding, nice bass. Tim
  2. I would recommend option 2 as your best choice. Changing the prop to reduce trolling speed might also prevent you from being able to achieve the proper rpms at WOT or even worse, over rev the engine at WOT and that's bad for the engine, and I've heard lots of bad stories about trolling plates. Plus the bags are removable. I have 2 of the Amish Outfitters 28" Beefy bags on my boat and they are awesome. Tim
  3. Glen, you should be able to pay with a credit card/debit card without having a paypal account. We have several paypal accounts set up at LOTSA and the payment pages all have, on the left side of the page, the option to pay with credit card. I'm fishing the open/rec division and paypal isn't an option for us so I can't see what the pro am paypal screen looks like without going through the regular registration process. We've gotta either mail in a check by may 21 or pay in cash at Slippery Sinker, Boat Doctor or Wilson Gas Shack. Tim
  4. here's the website link we got from Bob Cinelli last night at the LOTSA meeting, it is up and running finally http://lopacup.com/wordpress/ Tim
  5. The typical theromstats for Mercruiser I/O's, at least somewhat older ones was 140 (or 143) deg for raw water cooled (open cooling system) and 160 deg for fresh water cooled (closed cooling system). Tim
  6. Vince, over on Spoonpullers, there was a post by Glenn Anderson on 5-8 with pictures of them stocking those 100,000 surplus kings that day (2 lots of 50K fish each). Might this stocking tomorrow be something else? http://spoonpullers.proboards.com/index ... read=11394 Tim
  7. Bill, nice looking atlantic, what did it weigh? Tim
  8. Hey now, I resemble that remark Tim
  9. Happy Birthday Chad. Ray...... what the hecks a GERU Tim
  10. Jr Flutterdevle made by Eppinger (Daredevle, EVil Eye, Red Eye etc.) The flutterdevle is a thin flutterspoon http://eppinger.net/cgi-bin/index.pl?fs=0&init=1 spoon series 31 in the lure catalog great spoons once you tune em, not a lot of action out of the package, but put a little s bend in them and they really come to life, one of my favorite slow trolling brown trout spoons Tim
  11. BTW, Hank (L&M) comes very highly recommended from everybody I've ever seen if you're looking for a marine mechanic. Probably makes a lot of sense to get a proper diagnosis and identify the problem before you start spending money fixing/replacing things that might not be broken Tim
  12. DO NOT put anything on a trailer but trailer tires. Car/truck tires are constructed differently and ARE NOT suitable for a trailer application, EVER. Tim
  13. nope, 1000 feet of 30 lb wire perfectly fills a 47 size reel. The 27's are quite a bit smaller. Question, will they be used on the finger lakes or the big O? As long as he wont be using them on Ontario where he might get a big king ripping off 100+ yards, he should be fine, just fill em up with as much wire as they can hold and use em, just make sure the wire is spooled tight. Tim
  14. I assume you mean fish hawk Steelies like warmer water, so if you want to target them look for the top of the thermocline or around 55 degrees and fish up from there. The thing with steelhead is, they may only be 40 feet down, but they usually like being 40 feet down over 500+ feet of water so it can be a good run offshore to target them. for kings, I look for 39-42 deg ice water for the bottom of my program and fish up from there. Lots of times the big matures will be sitting down in the ice water when they are not actively feeding and they'll make quick forays up into warmer water, sometimes way out of temp feeding in 60+ degrees, but then will drop back down, so I set my bottom line (usually my probe rigger) at that depth and the rest of my spread is up above that. That 39 deg water is also where the smelt will be by the way. Lakers like cold water similar to kings, but won't come up out of it much and they are also bottom oriented, so look for where 39-32 deg water meets bottom and troll slow. (I admit I don't target lakers, so take that advice for what it's worth) Though you didn't ask, browns also like warmer water but will be close to shore for the most part, so for them look for where the top of the thremocline (approx 55 deg) intersects bottom and work inside from there, usually within 20 feet of the bottom. Lots of times off of Olcott, we'll find browns in 35-45 fow in the middle of summer. in 65 deg bathwater, I would guess it'll be the same at Oswego. Tim
  15. if it turns out you do in fact need a new drive, you might want to consider one from SEI. I've heard nothing but great thigngs about these drives and they are half the cost of a Mercruiser http://www.sterndrive.cc/about.htm Tim
  16. On Thursday May 13th at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a Seminar on Spring Fishing Lake Ontario for King Salmon off of the Niagara County shoreline. This seminar will be put on by Danny Evans of Lone Wolf Charters. Captain Danny’s home base for his Charter operation is Wilson where some of the best action for Kings occurs every Spring. Danny will be speaking on the huge Kings taken during the recently completed LOC Derby. This will be an excellent meeting to obtain current information on how and where to catch those large Kings that Lake Ontario is famous for. LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a sharing of information the current fishing conditions. So come join us and become more successful at fishing Lake Ontario! The meeting will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78 two miles north of Lockport), Lockport, NY 14094. The Seminar is open to the Public. See WWW.LOTSA.ORG for any questions.
  17. Welcome to LOU Jim. Tim Bromund
  18. They are stocking a couple different strains of lakers and it is obvious in your pic that those two fish are different strains. Check out how much bigger the spots are and how different the spotting pattern is on the smaller one. Pretty neat to see them side by side. Tim
  19. Hey Tom, I see that king has it's adipose, based on its apparent size, looks like that might be a wild one. Tim
  20. How did I know this was coming.
  21. I have the 12" Cimeter (Model 40630) and it is kick a$$. Ask your buddy Jax about it. Jeremy borrowed it last year at Olcott to clean the fish they caught the day he had the father and son on board filming that 50 states in 50 days fishing show. http://www.captgarys.com/product_info.p ... cts_id=949 Tim
  22. check your ground first. There should be a post with a wire mounted at the top of the tank, if that wire is loose you'll get erratic readings on the gas gauge. Tim
  23. Tony, IMO, you can't go wrong either month, the fishing is great in both, but May is when you hear guys talking about 20-30 king days. Watch the fishing reports here, the kings have already starting to show up in front of Olcott and Wilson this past week. May should be tremendous this year. Tim
  24. Frank, we're talking about 7 strand wire, not monel. Tim
