  1. you just want to have your rigger release above the probe so your line doesn't interfere with the speed paddle wheel. Tim
  2. That and I don't think they can cut off access to the folks that have houses on the island. Tim
  3. Yes, that is definitely worth looking into. Last year, Walker had some people trying out their non coated temp-sense cable with the Subtroll/DR instead of the standard coated cable and from everything I've seen, it worked great. It's a little more expensive, but if you are that worried about the coated cable, it is certainly an option. Just not sure where it is available in the States, though I would imagine if there was a demand, Jeff at Fish307 would probably get it in stock. Tim
  4. here is the setup. On a Klincher terminator drill out the rivet and replace it with a 3/4" #10 stainless machine screw with washers on either side of the plastic and a stainless nut (I use a nylock nut). leave some extra cable out the top of the klincher, crimp on a ring terminal (I like to use the type with the adhesive filled shring tubing) and insert the ring ontothe machine screw and install the nylock nut so that the ring terminal is between the washer and the nut, this keeps a metal to metal connection and maintains continuity with the snap swivel. for the snap swivel, get rid of the one the klincher comes with and raid a heavy BB stainless swivel from an spin doctor to use in its place. I've had this setup down over 160 and not lost signal on my DR. Tim
  5. well since you asked viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14436 Tim
  6. go light and easy on the tabs, they take some getting used to if you've never used them before. A very small change in the tabs will make a big change in boat orientation. Once you get the hang of them, you can REALLY improve the ride of the boat in all kinds of seas. It's really nice to be able to level the ride when you have uneven weight distribution on the boat. Tim
  7. From what I understand, as a non-electrical savvy person, a straight looped coil will create an electromagnetic field around the coled wire and give you all sorts of interference, the figure 8 configuration prevents that. Tim
  8. Took a little effort with the low water, but the pens are in their homes. Many thanks to all those that came out to help. Babies are being delivered on Wednesday April 12 at 1:00 and we'll be looking for volunteers to come on out and feed the fish. To sign up to feed the babies, please go the the LOTSA website at www.lotsa.org Thanks, Tim
  9. the Accudepth plus is a great reel. I've been running them on my braid and mono divers the past 3 seasons and they are very nice reels, especially for the price. Tim
  10. bump pens go in at Olcott tomorrow Tim
  11. Kevin, what are you talking about?? Everybody knows walleyes don't take out any drag Tim
  12. here you go, enter the boat brand. model year, model etc http://www.boatersworld.com/boat-cover- ... overs-tops Tim
  13. And how do we get to this, or will that be unveiled once it is up and running? Tim
  14. I was invited to join fellow LOU Member Chad and his brother for the Gill-T Hooker's shakedown cruise this morning. We found gin clear water along the shore and nothing happening on the browns and cohos, so we moved out to 45-55 fow and the screen absolutely lit up with what we figured were lake trout. It took us a while to figure out what they wanted, but once we did we ended up with 11 lakers between 8 and 16 lbs. What we finally figured out was that what they wanted was dodgers and flies and ONLY dodgers and flies, no bites on spoons, stick baits, Spin Doctors, etc, only bites came on dodgers. all bites came on a west troll, couldn't buy a bite going east. Right around 1.5 mph SOG on the gps. Riggers and braid divers both took fish. I have some pictures, but unfortunately, my stupid new Kodak digital camera uses a propriatary micro USB cable to attach to the computer instead of a standard mini USB cable that ever other camera on the freaking planet uses, so I won't be able to download the pics til I get back to work on Monday, so I'll add the pics later. Mr Gill-T has a bunch of pics also so perhaps he'll add his when he gets a chance. Beautiful day on the water. Tim
  15. Chautauqua Tony, with a name like that you wanna go across the state when directly north of you has far superior fishing for most of the year?? Olcott, Wilson and the Oak is where you wanna go, my man. King fishing rocks in Niagara County starting in late April and goes right through the end of the season, other than a couple week lull in mid june during the transition. The only time the east end really has better fishing than the west end is late august and september and that is fishing for dark mud hens. I agree on the Charter though, money well spent and shortens the learning curve tremendously. Tim
  16. Bob, I've been sitting here hypnotized for the past 10 minutes, Thanks Oh yeah, Happy B-Day Tom Tim
  17. all I get is an aborted action error message
  18. I didn't add em, the boat came with spring cleats right at the front of the hardtop on each side. I have the bags set up so that they run right about at the back of the HT and have ropes tied to the back of the bags that get looped around the big jon double rod holder to keep then close to the boat and to make pulling them out of the water easier. at idle with both bags in they just about drage me to a dead stop. cleats are right over the porthole windows on both sides the rope at the back of the bags are tied off to the big jon rod holders behind Adam in this pic (btw, the rope in this pic is a bow line, not the bag rope) Tim
  19. The ones in Fort Erie and Niagara Falls do.
  20. I have 2 of the 28" Amish Outfitter Beefy Bags that I troll with. The AP works ok with both but it seems to oversteer a lot with both bags deployed. It seems like it will turn a bit to correct course which will caus the outside bag to swing out and put hard an turn the boat that direction and then that causes the bag on the other side to do the same, so with the AP correcting constantly, the nose of the boat swings back and forth. I've found that that doesn't happen with just 1 bag out so that's what I usually troll with. Ther two bags help smooth the ride out in water rough enough where the AP has trouble holding course anyways (meaning in rough water where I'm not using the AP). I don't need the bags to get speed, I use em for 2 reasons 1) to increase my rpms a couple hunderd and improve oil pressure to the engine and 2) better/ more precise throttle control once you get past that idle/not idle threshold with the I/O. Tim
  21. Cannons ans Klinchers both work great. I use the modified Klincher for the coated cable on my probe rigger to make the probe removable. There are old threads on modifying the klincher for the probe rigger, but here is the picture of the setup that everyone uses: Personally I don't trust crimps on any wire EVER, at any time!!! Tim
  22. Any Canadian Tire store, right up front at Customer Service. Tim
  23. THE PENS ARE GOING IN !!!!!!! SAT. APRIL 10 9:00 AM AT THE TOWN OF NEWFANE MARINA Once again it's time to put the pens in for the lotsa olcott pen project. This year is going to be the most exciting so far !!! We will be putting in all four pens to hold our 67,100 chinook and 3,500 steelhead so bring a friend and meet a bunch of interesting people. "don't forget your clippers for the wire ties" This year will mark the first of five years, of one of the most comprehensive studies on chinook salmon ever undertaken in the great lakes. All 67,100 salmon in the pens will have a coded wire tag in their nose, as will all 67,100 direct stock chinook salmon in 18 mile creek. All our chinook, both for the pens and for direct stock will be marked with separate coded wire tags for the next three years. We hope this will lead to some very valuable information, not only on return to stream but also from an open lake component of this study. All pen projects through New York waters of Lake Ontario will be tagged, as will the corresponding direct stock fish. I believe ths same is true of Canadian stocked Chinooks. All pen projects and direct stock locations will have different lots of coded wire tags to help the DEC better understand chinook movement and returns. This project is made possible through the DEC's purchase of the new marking trailer with occidental chemical remedial money, . The DEC should be applauded for this incredible study and all the work and planning it entails. Also don't forget that for the last two years this trailer has clipped the adipose fin (top back fin) on "all" stocked chinook salmon going into lake ontario both here in New York and Canada. Thus we are reaching the point where we will be able to tell stocked chinook from naturally reproduced chinook. This will continue to get more interesting for the next couple of years and then all chinook in the lake will be marked. So any fish under two years old you catch with an adipose fin now is a naturally reproduced fish those without are stocked chinook. Look Forward To Seeing You All Saturday April 10th At 9:00 Am The Newfane Town Marina In Olcott.
  24. S Mick, 4 years ago when I installed the Simrad it was $1200 including the new rotary steering cable. Changing over to Hyd steering and then buying the Hyd pilot was a LOT more money at the time and the simrad has worked pretty much flawlessly for me. Tim
  25. which means that Raymarine STILL hasn't designed a mechanically steered AP that is worth a crap for our application, just like the SP+. Glad I axed the SP+ and got the simrad. Tim
