On Thursday April 8th at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a Seminar on Spring Fishing Lake Ontario for King Salmon off of the Niagara County shoreline. This seminar will be put on by Captain Bob Stevens of Sunrise II Charters. Captain Bob moves the home base for his Charter operation to Wilson every Spring because the Spring King fishing at this end of the lake is the best in all of the Great Lakes. Captain Bob will review the tackle and techniques he uses every day to provide his Clients with limit catches of Kings. This seminar will provide beginners with a starting point to catch their first Kings along with providing experienced trollers those little things to make them more successful this Spring. Bob, who is a field rep for Church Tackle, Big Jon and A-TOM-MIK Flys, will review how he uses these products to make him more successful on the water. LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a sharing of information the current fishing conditions. So come join us and become more successful at fishing Lake Ontario! The meeting will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78 two miles north of Lockport), Lockport, NY 14094. The Seminar is open to the public with a $5 charge for non members. See www.lotsa.org for any questions.

float fishing
Tim Bromund replied to lennybones's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
WOW... something sure got the flea flickers' panties in a wad. in the immortal words of Sgt Hulka: Lighten Up Francis!!! Tim -
just so you guys know, Dave is a one man operation and he paints every spoon by hand, so it some times takes a bit for him to fill all of his orders. You can only spend so many hours a day swimming in fumes in the paint booth Tim

Had to make a correction above, the correct name of the new derby is the Pay Every Day Derby, not the $1000 a Day Derby. Tim

Awww geez... there goes the neighborhood welcome back from wherever you were.

Not sure on the second half of that Tag. The GPS Out to the FF In will get you the GPS info on your graph like you are looking for, but I don't know what data the FF could supply to the GPS requiring the reverse connection. I don't think it'll hurt anything, just not sure it's necessary. Tim
-
Tag, I don't have it hooked up to my FF, but I do have my GPS hooked up to both my autopilot and my DSC Radio using the NMEA 0183 wires. you just have to look at the wiring diagrams in the owners manuals for both units and see which color wires are which, and make sure you have the NMEA out wire from the GPS going to the NMEA in wire on the FF (simple direct splice). I'm going from a Garmin 172C (which has 2 NMEA Out wires) to both the Simrad AP and a Standard Horizon Radio. IIRC, you usually have to connect the black wires to ground as well. Tim

I've done something like that before. I've made up what I called a "magnum" fly by sliding a white glow A-Tom-Mik fly over a green crinkle howie fly (smaller profile fly) and ran that behind a 10" Spin Doctor on a 36" leader and done well with it. It works when the fish seem to be really agressive. Tim

I noticed that at Olcott as well. Iwas down by my slip on tuesday, which is right next to the Rte 18 Bridge and the water was a good 2 feed below the high water mark, which is where it normally is this time of year. I think the lake level can be controlled at the far east end at the Power Plant, Time for the NYPA boys at the St Lawrence plant to clamp er down to bring the lake levels up. Tim

LOTSA wants to thank all of the Vendors and Participants that made our February Salmon Spectcular weekend a great success. Dave, Bill and Hunter from Best Chance Too ran an excellent clinic on Saturday to a full house with people coming from as far away and Minnesota to attend. We all walked out with some new tricks to try on LO this year along with a tackle bag valued at $80. On Sunday we had great participation from many LOTSA volunteers throughout the day to take care of the 40+ Vendors that attended along with the 300+ show participants. Thanks to the many Vendors that brought lots of product with show special pricing. Thanks to Best Chance Too and Cold Steel (Tom Burke and Andy Bliss) for their seminars on Sunday. Special thanks to the following Vendors who donated their products for door prizes: A-TOM-MIK MANUFACTURING NORTHERN KING LURES MOONSHINE LURES CHAMBERLAIN DOWNRIGGER RELEASES DREAMWEAVER LURES PAY EVERY DAY DERBY CAPTAIN'S COVE RESORT MUSTAD HOOKS BIG WEENIE BRAND Best of all we raised $1,600 for our Niagara and Orleans County Pen Rearing Projects, bringing the 3 year total amount for Pen Rearing to $5,600. All of the Entrance Fees collected at the door of the EXPO are donated to our area Pen Projects to help keep them afloat. For those of you into planning for future events, we plan to hold this event again next year on the last weekend of February.

No, from the way I understand it, the Boat derby is a boat ticket that covered any and everyone that happens to be fishing on your boat that day. If you have a boat ticket for your boat, everyone fishing on your boat is entered in the boat derby. If your buddy is fishing on your boat, you are both covered. If your buddy also has a boat ticket for HIS boat and you are both fishing on his boat, you are both covered by HIS boat ticket. Tim

I seem to remember this happening maybe 5 or 6 years ago, NE winds pushed all the ice southwest into the warmer western basin and it melted there and never came back. I also seem to remember that year, whenver the fish started to spread out, we kept getting E and NE winds that pushed the warm water and fish back across the line into Canadian Waters Tim

200lb power pro on my mag 10 instead of cable
Tim Bromund replied to Gotta Bite's topic in Tackle and Techniques
And I'm STILL not sure why people seem to want to get rid of that awesome sweet music that is downrigger cable hum?? Tim -
Hopefully that means the fish will spread out along the Niagara Co shore and we'll have decent numbers in front of Olcott instead of having to make the 18 mile run to the bar. Tim

THere is a post on www.spoonpullers.com in the product review section where Big Jon responded about the upgrade kits. Tim

I had the same situation on my Thompson, I ended up just cutting/raking out a 6"x6" section of the floatation foam all the way to the underside of the gunwales at each location so I could mount the riggers and rod holders properly. Tim

Need some clariffication
Tim Bromund replied to Shade's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Check your math Howie. 3 colors of core is 30 yards (90 feet) plus 20' leader is 110 back and if you figure another 10 feet into the backing before you put it in the rigger release, with the drop of lead core that will be 120' back and 12-15 feet below the ball. That is what is known as the SWR or "Secret Weapon Rig" as it was dubbed on Great Lakes Angler, though really the SWR is 2 colors of core off a rigger with a 30' leader and 10' into the backing on the rigger which put you 100 back and 10 below the ball. Very nice stealth presentation, by the way. Tim -
Sure Vince, they are entitled to shut up and do as they are told or else they face imprisonment and execution. Tim

You seem to forget that Ms Obama is not an elected representative of any sort and as such she does not have authority to govern anything, not even the Pier. It certainly seems that the Obama's have forgotten that as well. Tim

Mac, there was no sign of them at the SBH this past sunday (My only trip out this year). Tim -
You can only shoot ducks from a boat if it is not underway. I do not believe it would be legal if the boat was moving. Waterfowl hunting section of the DEC Regs http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28175.html under Prohibitions: You may NOT hunt migratory game birds using these methods: . . . From a motorboat or sailboat unless the motor is off or the sail furled, and the boat has stopped moving. Tim
