  1. yes great point Rich, i like my rigger rods as flat to water as possible also. The adjustable holders that come on the 1117 propacks's and can be bought separately as an add on accomplish that just fine also. Tim
  2. Well then I guess we need to start kicking the a$$es of the misguided Erie and Niagara County Legislators that are in favor of this stupidity. Tim
  3. Don't you just love when politics and protecting your own personal fiefdom gets in the way of sound fisheries management?...... I'm just sayin' Tim
  4. yup, no need for roller guides or tips IMO. I've got 2 wire divers on 9.5' heartlands with twilli tips that are 8 or 9 years old now and still good as new. Tim
  5. yeah, that way you can do what I did and set up a 10 color, a 5 color, a 3 color and a 2 color core rod. did I mention I'm a tackle addict and junkie Tim
  6. I'll be at Lockport next Tuesday. Tim
  7. wow mr pot, please meet mr kettle....... what did you just call him?????
  8. Took my first and likley, ONLY, ice fishing trip this year down to the Buffalo Small Boat Harbor on sunday. Better class of perch than I am used to seeing in the SBH. Fished from 6:30 till 12:30 and ended up keeping 21 perch between 7 and 10 inches out of 45-50 caught. FWIW, there is approx 16" of good hard clear ice in the harbor. bigger emerald shiners were the ticket. Tried perch eyes for a while and all I got on em was dinks. somewhat disturbing this year has been the lack of Northern Pike. Usually see a lot of em through the ice this time of year right up till the March 15 closer, but very few to be seen this year. My buddy I fished with was also out there on saturday and between saturday and sunday we had ZERO flags go on the tip ups. he has bee out there reguarlyu and has seen very few this year. I am wondering if the VHS hasn't knocked the Pike population down like it did the Muskie population in the Buffalo Harbor and Upper Niagara River. Tim
  9. why would I have to do that when I can just buy a superior rigger (which I did) and have it be a non issue. Tim
  10. Tim, That only applied to new boats correct? Older boats will be grandfathered I hope? I'd hate to think that if I ever had to repower my Thompson (which you guys sold originally by the way ) that I'd be forced into those expensive upgrades on a 25 + year old boat. Tim
  11. absolute and utter nonsense. And I've never cared for big jon riggers either. Love the rod holder and have 6 of em on ther boat, but don't like the riggers. I don't care what big jon claims, I hate and distrust the flexible booms and unless they've changed em on more recent models, I hate the crappy rocker switches they use. I probably don't have to reterminate a couple times a year, I just do because I'm paranoid about things like that. It doesn't affect the cable below, just scrapes off a couple inches of coating, which has no effect on the DR performance (which is flawless by the way) Tim
  12. another outstanding boating resource with a vast wealth of boating knowledge is www.boatered.com I've been an anchored member at BE for years. Tim
  13. In case you still didn't notice, the Scottys have tip up booms as well, so what's your point.
  14. and what exactly makes you think it's the republicans pushing this nonsense? It is the eco-nazi, greenie, libtards that are forcing the installation of these stupid, shortsighted and extremely inefficient monstrosities on us so that the power generated can all be sent downstate. Let em put those stupid things in Long Island Sound if downstate wants the energy so darn badly. Tim
  15. no, that stupid proposal got ash-canned, thankfully. Tim
  16. I always wait as long as I can, simply because they prorate the registration fees. No sense in paying for a registration when it is sitting buried in a snowbank all winter not going anywhere. Tim
  17. Tim, I'm working on this project with Dave. Did you need to account for any difference in length between the end of the old rack and the entry point on the new AP? It seems like there could be 4 to 6 inches of difference. No, there was plenty of play/spare cable there, it's not really a tight fit because the thickness of the cable kind of necessitates large radius bends. The place I bought my cable from has since gone out of business. Maybe Hank (L&M) can help with another source or at least let you know what cable to get. I know he has done quiate a few of these installations. It should just be a teleflex/morse rotary helm cable as opposed to the rack and pinion cable. Tim
  18. Reese/Cody, yes, I've been running the coated cable on my scotties for 4 seasons. you do have to reterminate the cable a couple times a season (probably a good idea anyways) because the last couple inches of coating gets buggered up. what you really have to watch for is that the coated cable seems to be a bit more abrasive than regular steel cable and I noticed the coated cable wore grooves in the soft plastic of the scotty retrievers, which is what caused the retriever to mar up the coating. Really a non issue, just something to watch for over the course of a season. Need the large diameter opening of the scotty retrivers to make sure the auto stop beads don't get hung up. Tim
  19. when I replaced the R&P cable in my Thompson for my Simrad AP14R install, it had the length written on it in inches, right near the end where it mounted to the power steering ram, mine was 240" (20 ft). and I agree, the worst part of the cable replacement was all of the wires I had wire tied to the old one Tim
  20. it had to pause and buffer up a couple times for me, but I was able to watch it ok. Tim
  21. and to actually answer the OP's question, it should definitely have more of a barrel roll action than a spin, at about 1-2 revolutions per second when tuned properly. Tim
  22. Thanks guys. Seriously though, we really need to thank all of you, because none of it means a thing without all of you coming out and supporting the effort. Tim
  23. Happy Birthday Howie
