  1. Tim, Maybe your state is taking lessons from my state. Only delayed because they need time to figure out how they can make money from it. New York is still way better than Mass. for their sportsmen and women.
  2. I run about an eight foot leader from dipsy to front of flasher. good luck and tight lines.
  3. Guidewayneo, That is so very gracious of you not to only donate an item but you own time as well. I thought the economy was getting better but this year has been especially tough for donations. Thank you so very much.
  4. The current address for donations if interested is, Richard Doolin 72 Short Street Middleboro, Ma. 02346 Direct e-mail is [email protected] Please put Lake Ontario or Fair Haven Challenge donations in the title so it inadvertently does not get deleated. Thank you all.
  5. Tim, Glad you and your friends are all ok. I just received a 1600 GPH. bilge for my birthday for a back up to the original 500 GPH. bilge already in the boat.
  6. Hello fellow Great Lakes and Salmon fishermen and woman. My name is Richard Doolin. I am an out of stator that loves to fish Lake Ontario. Last year I took on the task of acquiring donations for the Fair Haven Challenge. These donations go on a raffle table. All the proceeds go to the net pen project in Fair Haven, raising several thousand salmon for us all to catch. These net pen projects all along the shore are vital to the great fishery we have. This year and for the last few leading up to today, donations are very low. I have sent out over two hundred letters to various companies. Does anyone have any connections for donations to help or can think of someone I have not contacted. Any tackle stores want to get rid of some old stock for a good cause? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Being over two hundred contacts I will not list them here but if you suggest someone I will let you know if I have already contacted them. Please PM me if you do not want to put it on this thread. Thank you all for any help
  7. How about a search on craigs list for a used unit. Then you would have some spare parts for the future as well. Just a thought if you can find one. The other thought is to have another casting made, you have the original which they could use to make the mold. Here is a link for a country wide search on craigs list http://www.adhuntr.com/2012/05/all.html?cx=partner-pub-9413604915893153%3Ao8xsd8d7h7s&cof=FORID%3A11&ie=UTF-8&newwindow=1&q=Beaver+Trol&as_qdr=a&sa=Search
  8. Happy Fathers Day to all as well
  9. I have done all above. I will start the day with 2 f/f and 2 spoons and let the fish tell me from there. Some days have turned into all f/f and others all spoons. I start with the spoons on my out/downs higher than my f/f but have ended up with a staggered setup with one spoon highest than f/f , spoon and f/f on the bottom many of times.

  13. Blacks for kings, Chamberlains for smaller sized fish like spring browns to cape cod trout. The chamberlains are great for loading the rod but being able to trip with the smaller fish but I want a harder hook set for kings especially later in the year when their mouths get hard. Good luck and tight lines
  14. If your anodes are in tough shape as you describe then you obviously have a current issue. You do not mention the engine (o/b or i/o etc.) being grounded in your list of components. I would make sure it is connected. It is also more than likely time to change you anodes. Keep in mind that this current could be coming from any shore power, if your boat is kept in the water at a marina that has boats plugged in to power while in the water. Good luck and tight lines
  15. Keep in mind that cannon voids the warranty if the box is opened. Warranty is only suppose to be for the original purchaser.

  17. I guess I am the odd one hear. I have always had great luck with the chartreuse one. I have a green one on the other side. It looks like I may have to try a black one though, but the chartreuse one will always be in the water until I loose it.
  18. The only other thought I can think of is to make sure it is set for the internal antenna and not the external. Otherwise I would contact the factory. They helped me when I had an issue.
  19. I was thinking the same as ksc. I will also add a local zoo that has bears and other fish eating animals.
  20. I was stopped this weekend as well. I guess it did not help that I was the only boat in the river out of two trailers in the lot. They were very nice and I got my golden ticket as well. The one thing that I did not know about, but had, is a containment method for hazardous spills. It can be something as simple as a bucket and some rags, but you are now required to have something if the motor should spill gas or oil or alike chemicals. Be safe and good fishing to all.
  21. Occasionally I read a report of a troubled filled trip to the lake. I always feel for the individual and the abundance of bad luck does not seem possible for one to have all in one trip. Well I know firsthand now how things can go so wrong. We left for our yearly trip to the Niagara Bar last Thursday for a long holiday weekend fishing trip. My father and I have been taking this trip for about twelve years now. It all started when I was notified by my sister that my nephew was not able to come with us on this trip. Dad and I were looking so forward to having him on the boat with us. The look on a youngsters face with a large king in hand is priceless. Anyway, off we go. We left the house promptly at 3:00am. For our nine hour drive. All seamed well. The trailer breaks that I spent so much time on were working nicely. I did not realize they were as bad as they were on the new to me set up but they are working nicely now and it is so much better. Somewhere south of Sodus Bay on the New York through way is when it happened. The u-bolts holding the front axil to the trailer failed. The front tires slammed into the rear, wedging itself between the tire and the trailer frame. It was a sight-seeing the complete rig, truck, trailer, and boat on a flatbed. Well, two new tires, some u-bolts , and five hours later we were back on the road. Very thankful it had not been worse. We were ok and so was the rig. We arrived too late to fish that day so just hit the sack early after a quick bite. Awoke the next day to six footers and some bigger with rain so did not try to go out. The second day it looked a little better so we went down to the lake to give it a shot. Put the boat in and forgot the plug. Got the boat back on the trailer and drained. Re-launched and was boarded by the coastguard. All checked out fine and I have my golden ticket for the rest of the year, or so they say. Attempted the lake but it was too rough for fun fishing. Back at the dock I noticed that one of my downrigger bases was broken and the pin was missing to lock it into position. We went back to the motel for another day of boredom. We awoke Sunday to lighter winds. Launched out of Olcott with roughly four to five footers. It felt great too finally be out on the lake. Fishing was tough in these conditions but we managed a few. About noon the lake started to settle and we were able to get better control for a better presentation. All of a sudden the volt meter tanked and I knew I had an issue. Figured I was going to break down I eagerly looked for the cause. Apparently my bilge pump shorted, I disconnected the wires and all was good. That is when fishing really picked up for us. The last two passes brought five fish to the boat all between twelve and eighteen pounds, too round out a nice box which brought a lot of attention at the cleaning station. We headed home a little later than normal Monday morning. I passed an unmarked cruiser back in Massachusetts which stopped us to chat a little. Nice officer. All is good, we made it home safe. I have a few repairs for the next time I return to the boat in July. I wish all a safe and great season.
  22. Fish Hunter, I do not think so.
  23. Adam, Yes I will be at the same place. Also Roger said he may show up, I need to call him to confirm. Are you going to show up to say hi? Fish Hinter, I just go by Richard on the radio
  24. They do both have their day. That in mind the spin doctor (or other rotators) is in the water first and dodgers only come out when others are not working.
