Hi Gang, First year running copper off my boat. I have 400' of 45# with 50# pro braid as backing on a Penn 49. It looks cool but I find that the free spool has caused my beloved copper to kink in a few spots (I screwed up!). As much as I tried to undo the kink, I see the bump in the line. Is my copper compromised by this. I know with Monel, you are done when this happens but not sure of the criticality. Also, it seems that the consensus is the Penn 345 GTi appears to be a good choice for this type setup. Is the clicker durable on this reel..in other words can I let the line out in free spool with the clicker on without burning it out. I know the old Penn Reels couldn't handle this. Thanks, Bob

Hi Gang, Trying to plan my purchase in advance. I have very limited real estate on my boat dashboard. Does anyone know if any of the Ram mounts would work supporting the Moor Subtroll Display unit. I'm not hung up on the Ram unit so any other product suggestions would be appreciated as well. Does the Subtroll need a special cable? Does it come with this or is this an additional purchase. Thanks and look forward to the replies. Bob

Hi Gang, Have had these Cannon Unitroll manual crank riggers for an eon. Problem I'm experiencing now is when I need to drop the riggers to the deep depths, the first 20' or so the rigger releases the cannonball smoothly then the action changes to pulsing. As a result the 6' boom rigger puts huge stress on the gunnels on where they are mounted. Does anyone have a clue what it might be that is causing this....meaning what part would should I look at that might be the cause of the issue. These are pretty uncomplicated. The only thing showing any signs of wear is a washer with what appears to be ball bearings on it and the two washer that butt up against it (they are quite grooved) Looking for the experienced hand. Thanks, Bob

Hi Gang, Looking for a Penn 49 Mariner reel. Sort of an odd ball design. Thanks, Bob

Hi Gang, Thinking of toying with the idea of outriggers for my boat. Was looking at one from Tigress for like $100 pair. Did some research and they stated that the fiberglass outriggers for tuna fishing was too light. I 'm thinking that wire dipseys or Leadcore would put an awful bend in these. Does anyone have any experience with these or with Outriggers in general. I already have the outrigger holders mounted on my boat. BTW, the $$ amounts vary greatly on these...easily spend a $1,000 on this. Thanks, Bob

Hi Gang, A little off topic but I promised my son (9 years old) we'd go out carp shooting when it was hot and heavy. He is beyond excited at the prospects of shooting one with his recurve. Anyhow, if anyone see's them splashing in a big way in the shallows, can you post here. I have to pick my day off from work and want it to be a winner for him. Many thanks...I'll post the glory shots when we are done. Bob

Hi Gang, I need to replace the braided wire on my dipsy setup ( I think 14 years is enough!!!!). Would someone know how much line I would need. I am assuming I will go with the Ma$on 30lb braided wire (brown) but not sure of how much I should buy for each reel. I bought these from a store no longer in existence otherwise my question would go there. My guess is I would need 1000' per reel w/no backing. Thanks for your assist Bob

Aluminum Boat Repair ...looking for a referral
Sea Lion replied to Sea Lion's topic in This Old Boat
Thanks Guys. I will look up the place in Sodus. Always appreciate the help I get on LOU. Bob -
Hi, I have a 19.5ft Sea Nymph that got hammered from the wind storm on Saturday (5/9). My boat caught the brunt of the waves and if I didn't check it during the storm, I am sure I'd be looking at a hole. I am looking for a quality boat repair shop that can work on Aluminum boats. I would probably get it repaired after the fishing season. Any suggestions. I live in Penfield. Much Appreciated Bob

Archery Question
Sea Lion replied to Sea Lion's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Hi, Just an update. Higbie's was nice enough to check but did not have the wire wound hay bales. Fast forward, we wound up buying 3 bales wrapped with nylon string. Worse comes to worse...I'll have some extra mulch for my garden. Thank you Gambler and Carpdiem for responding. Bob -

Hi, I'm on borrowed time with my canvas top however I'm trying to squeeze out a couple of more years out of it. While taking down my top on a cold day, a cracked about 2-3 inches on my clear plastic side curtain. Is there a product out there like a tape that would fix this from becoming bigger? Thanks, Bob

Gang, Took some pto days from work for some quality king action. Make a long story short...we started in 80' and trolled out to 520. Marked very few fish, disturbingly little bait and ended up the day boating one small king, dropping two steelies (one was a real good one) and another release. That was it. Found temp inside beyond deep and out in the dotted line area about 70'. I know the kings are frequently out of temp starting now so that's not my sole criteria but the fishing stinks. I did see a charter boat inside like 60' and not sure if I left fish inside or not but it was a truly dismal picture today.
