When do you guys start trolling for kings?
HitorMissIV replied to tjozz's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Tjozz, The guy's are right! The west is best in the spring, But if you're looking for Big Matures, head to Mexico the 2nd. week in August & sneek out to 150 ft of water.Drop a couple Cut Bait rigs where you see the Little Rascals plus some Flippers with Flies off the wires , Oh don't forget the Big ugly glow Mag spoons mixed in between. We had a short but very sucsessful Fall this past season on Big Fish. We also have nice People, Places & Things! Capt. Randy -- Hit or Miss Charters -
Hey Guys, I recieved the X-4 probe this past season & the new probe works Great. The x-4 logic is slower than the old units so the speed is much more stable, it performs much like the Moor sub troll . The temperature is normally right on! The down speed appears to be about 2-3 tenths per mph slower than actual. You'll find that 1.8-1.9 down speed will be suitable for that fall salmon trolling speed. Running my older probe (which performed well) would calcuate a 2.0-2.2 down speed for the same conditions. Also the battery life is super(with quality batteries). Of course not being sure, but the flashing LED light may be fish attractor!! Next , how about an E Chip Probe??? How long do ya think till they set their sights on us?
HitorMissIV replied to Fishtails's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Hold on everyone,First we as fisherman should all be come members.. just think how much it would cost these Tree huggers to check all new members as to which are For or against?? Also the Ice cream idea will help put retired Hooters babes back to work!!! Nice!! Capt Randy -
With all the reasons to have & use woven copper line, the best is the ability to untangle snarled messes in the back of one's boat , while doing battle with doubles on dipsey divers!!! It's just a beautiful Thing! It also helps the tackle sales stay consistant. Sorry for the negative input. It once was the best way to catch fish subsurface, prior to downriggers. Remember never cross behind vessels fishing copper outfits if you have your down riggers bottom tracking... You may be surprized how far 6oo feet really is!! Catch a boat save a fish! Capt. Randy

St Lawrence Pike charter reccomendation
HitorMissIV replied to danjr's topic in Open Lake Discussion
A few years ago My son had an outdoor fishing show ( Fishin' for Kids) & we were fortunate to fish with David Roy . He owns a guide service which is the St. Lawerence Outfitters. His web site should be www.stlawrenceoutfitters.com . These boys had some great ares for pike as well as musky .You can also get a hold of him through Cagier's Country Inn. They are just a few miles over the 1000 island bridge, right of the parkway. Hope this helps. If you contact Dave, tell him Chris Orbach Said Hi ! Capt Randy -
It was a crazy weekend of fishing..... On Friday I had a friend from Michigan on board hoping for some salmon action, well his wish came true. We worked the 120-150 line off the Silo & captured 22lb King , 12.8 Atlantic, 1 juvinile king & a couple nice 7-11lb browns. On Saturday the weather for the tourney went to The Dogs & made conditions for tough fishing. I was fortunate having a Great Crew including Karen from Big Weenie aboard who came up to help with donations For the Tourney. We fished hard & managed to boat a few Trout , But only ONE to weigh. That fish took a Big Weenie King Seeker UV Fly behind a Chartruse EChip. Now for the rest of the story... Sunday after breakfast at Schneider's we snuck out to 70ft of water of the Big river & caught over 18 browns in 4hrs! Chicken wings , Nk alwives in 28s , PIRATE fire tiger 28 , NK C5 fire tiger, and Glow Frogs... 160 on a 2 setting dipsey was hot & fixed cheaters 4ft up off the ball down 71ft took they're attention ..... They were just Bitting!! Capt Randy Orbach

Fishing on the East side has been like a Roller Coaster Ride. The East winds have not helped to keep the Fish active. Temps begin to set up & it all changes. But we were able to take some real nice browns this past couple of Days , with Monday being a Double limit day off Cat fish creek. Stingers in natural colors are the #1 choice .Smithwicks are also doing some damage, & when the water stains run some R&R fire tiger patterns. Along with the browns , WE caught & released a couple 20" Steelheads. These are probably the Little Salmon River steelheads & they're looking GREAT!!! Capt. Randy

Another item that works as good as SLIMY GRIMY is IRON OUT sold at most hardware stores. Just dillute, spray on & wash off,it's also cheaper than Slmy Grimy. It also takes stains out of your sinks & cleans Coffee Pots!

Cut-Meat Question- DEC Regulations??
HitorMissIV replied to fosterm22's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Some of the cut bait I've seen is not worth fishing. I'm doing just as good with the artificial strips Jon's Little Salmon & Port Ontario tackle I know have it! -
Mexico report /19 & 20
HitorMissIV replied to HitorMissIV's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
The fish were in tight this weekend first thing(8-15ft). Smithwicks were doing a couple off the boards(greens) but the spoons were our best sets. I'm sure that either area Oswego or near Selkirk are going to hold fish if the conditions are right . Without rain Find the warmest water to work. Try to work areas that the boat traffic has not ! Capt. Randy / Hit or Miss charters -
Fishing out of Mexico this weekend was a little tougher than last week. The nort east winds changed conditions . We did however pick some nice browns close to our port on Sat. where the surface temp. was holding 53deg. Our best set was R&R chart. shad & orange shad spoons running 1/2 oz keels ahead . 2.4-2.8 sog. Sunday due to the nw winds we worked north, from the Salmon river to Sandy pond & managed to pull 7 nice browns (6-10lbs) with a mess of small stockers. Purple seemed to be the color for Sun. Capt. HitorMissIV replied to spoonfed-1's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
We Drop our new boat in on Fri eve. Still had things to get accomplished so we ended up leaving the dock around 7.00 am. on Saturday. Ran the boat east & played with elecronics ect. At the same time trying to figure out the boat I tried to figure out fish?? No Bites off Selkirk? Pulled lines Moved west!! Found the magic speed & lit them up!!! We went 18 for 22 With the bigest being 12.5lbs. The great thing was we pulled them running only 4 rods!! Sunday conditions changed , but still managed to pop 7 by 9.30. All fish were released . Some of our fish had some nasty lamprey marks! :x :x Capt. Randy -

downrigger selection??
HitorMissIV replied to btfc1752's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Everyone has their own preferance, both riggers in question are good units. Newer Cannons come with built in positive ion control feature which Scottys do not. Both riggers are fast, Cannon has increased the speed of all their newer units. Scotty on the otherhand are free falling desent with a clutching arm to control the speed. The retrieve is also fast . Scottys are easy to service & repair with little of both! One factor is that Scotty riggers are wide units taking up gunwale room, so depending on the room available it can get crowded . Also don't ignore Big Jon riggers. They're not bad for the money & are made of all aluminum construction. Plus there are others out that perform well, it's up to the fisherman as to what works for them. Capt Randy -
Ray, What are they asking for the unit? My old boat had one on it & the guy how bought it may want a spare. They had problems with the motors primarily , But on cable steered inboards they held up OK. Not as fancy as the newer units. Capt. Randy

2007 Spring derby. Where will the winner come from
HitorMissIV replied to spoonfed-1's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Don't short change us boy's from Mexico, I think it will be a King just west of the plant hung to a dipsey fly combo tipping the scale at 28.00 lbs. dancing on the deck of a Penn Yan ! -
Okumas hold up well. They're hard to beat for the money. I fish both Shimano & Okuma reels & both perform well. I like the large power handles on the Okumas'. I had some problems with the Titan Lever drag reels with chatter in the drags , but I lubed the drag washers with (STP) and that fixed them. If you take care of your equiptment it will last for years! Capt. Randy / Hit or Miss Charters

You might also check out West View marina. Bill Saiff III bought it & maybe he'd give you a good rate ? It's before Henchen's . Capt . Randy Orbach / Hit or Miss Charters
