  1. Got up to the hill the other day late in the morning. I sat for a while, with nothing seened to be moving I walked around to see if I could see where the deer were moving throughout the woods. I had seen 4 different sets of tracks, but one was a little concerning. I set of tracks moving to another piece of woods across the street, with 4-5 set of coyote tracks on that trail. On our land one side of the woods is migratory and the other is bedding. I would say that about 10 deer have been taken over a 3-4 year period. The woods around us have not really had much pressure from what I have seen. There is ample food with fields on top and small creeks running through our woods. These fields are the biggest in the area around 100 acres (an old farm that is now used for hay) there is more than enough cover to hold the deer with little pressure from humans, but still numbers are down. Over 10 years ago there were a huge number of deer and back then a large number were taken. I would say that about 2-3 deer a year are taken off the land a year with this year only one taken. Could the large number taken over 10 years ago be the cause, or should of the heard bounced back by now?
  2. I have only been out twice this year because of time and needing to get the kids off to school. My nephew invited me up to Watkins Glen track to hunt in archery I got a sitter and went. I was in his stand for an hour and a small 8 pt, fell to a duble lung and liver shot dropping only 30 yrds later. the second time was a little more crazy, I knew nobody has been hunting on our land all year. I had a civil service test to take on opening day and couldn't get out until tuesday. It had been raining so I figured around 9 after dropping the daughte off at daycare I would go see if there were signs around the tree stands. I was able to walk quiet up the logging road up to an old cabin that had fallen down, but the roof is intack on the ground. I had stepped on an old can about 10 ft away from the roof and heard loud thumping coming from the roof. I turned and it was a huge coyote comming at me. I turned the gun, it swirled around and went back into the roof. It came out of the other side running like heck. I put the scope on him and rolled him over. That puppy started yelping and took off. After getting my heart rate down and checking to see if I needed to wipe. I went back down to the truck and drove up to the top of the land to see if there were any signs by that stand. I walked into the woods about 5 yards and a 6 pt was right there about 20 yards. I have noticed that the deer population has dropped a lot over the last several years. I have also noticed that the coyote population has really increased over the last couple of years. I have shot 4 in the last 2 years. When I was hunting a lot more on our land to see 2-4 deer was common. From what I have heard, over the past couple of years if you see a deer your lucky. I am talking about over 100 acs. has anyone seen an increase of coyotes in their neck of the woods?
  3. This is a project boat 1965 17ft chris craft (looks bigger but must go with the title). It has a ford V8 with an eaton outdrive. When it was stored 2 years ago the motor ran great. The only issues that I know of are, it needs a new ALT, and the shift linkage needs adjusting. It kicks out of gear, I have tore the outdrive apart and there is not even a scratch on any of the gears. Selling this for $550
  4. I have 2 manual Walker kindfisher Downriggers with swival bases. I bought these off Irish56 2 years ago, only used one time since I bought them. $350 for the pair.
  5. Do you have any pictures? what is the length?
  6. The new pool is coming on Monday, so I can go fishing now. Redneck and his son and my family are going to Fair haven on Monday thru Weds. We are camping at the state park, Open invite if anyone wants to stop by and have a couple of beers and shoot the breese. I think we are at campsite #78. If anyone has been fishing out of fair haven could give us a little info on where and what the fish are doing would be great.
  7. Firediver, I too was looking into that. I had talked with them and from what others on this board who have gone through them have said, this is top notch training school.
  8. It is hard to offend me, not to worry just fishin. Hey carl I heard you had some mentally challenged crew member working for you today. It is always good to hear of some people that will work with the mental and now physically handicap. Sorry ray had to do it.
  9. Ray's not like that but, man his leg does look nasty. You don't sue your friends for accidents, that are unavoidable.
  10. the good news is that the insurance will cover the pool, bad news is i still have to build the deck. Ray, If you come up on the 30th I'll buy the gas for the boat and already paid for the campsite. i am thinking a whole lot of beer drinking and fishing.. The wife said that there was only one thing, that she can go atleast one time, may not get all the kids to go twice. She said she'll watch them for us while we go out...
  11. we called the insurance and they said they'll file a claim, ruling it under a vehicle hit it. What ever just as long as it gets paid for and I didn't lose the initial $8000 for the first one. Seeing that i don't need the filter, pump covers, ect the pool company is charging us $5900 installed. So if the insurance company pays for it then I am back on the fishing schedule and maybe the new boat next year.. I am thinking I am going to wait a while to ask about the boat.. Redneck said he wants to see if they cover the cost of the pool, if not he'll sue to cover the cost of a pool and a couple of big boats for us (just kidding).
  12. It's all good atleast she is speaking now, although loudly, not really she took it pretty good. The new pool should be around $3400, there goes the new boat for next year maybe in 09. Going to check out the home owners insurance, but they don't know we even had the pool because everything was not inspected yet, so not sure if they will cover it. for now instead of the 24x32 deck, she gets a 10x8 deck until the new pool is in. were going camping the end of july and hopefully redneck is not to pissed or use to much sick time at work he'll bring up the Yaught and camp with us. I spoke to him a little while ago he's out of the oak right now just had thier first rod go off.
  13. Well, my fishing season is probably over.. Figured I would take Ray K. advice get stuff around the house for the wife to get more fishing time. Put in a brand new hot tub, and a 27' pool in May. Called up Ray (Redneck Yaught) to dig holes for the 32' x 24' deck, rented on of those toro dingo's to get through the rocks and all.. We had finished all the holes, some we said the heck with it because it was to close to the pool and the slope of the ground made it to hard without hitting the pool. Decided to load the Dingo and take it back, being happy all the holes were done. Well, that was the start of hell. The tracks caught a root and between the soft ground and the slope, it tipped over, cruching 2 supports and putting a 4 inch rip in the frame. The linner still holding water with no leaks. We tried to flip it over using Ray's Hemi Dodge but it being over a ton the ropes broke. I called a tow truck to come help. I was on the phone with the wife, came outside when the tow truck came, Ray hooked up the dingo and they started to move it. The Handle was just behind a brace so Ray went to flex the edge of the brace and pool exploded causing the liner and the frame to split in half like paper hitting ray in the calf and 17000 gallons of water out like the salmon river damn. The end result a very pissed off wife, Ray needing 27 stitches in his calf, flooded the neighbors yards and a $8000 pool, 2 months old lying there in a pile like a bomb hit it. I don't think I'll get any time off to fish, if I dont ge the pool and deck done soon. Looks like a whole lot more overtime at work.
  14. Hey ray what about me???? If it wasn't for me that would be a picture of the yaught in front of a hooters without the ladies.... For me it would be the beer ha ha ha ha
  15. Thanks for the info. From what I heard down there is that it was the wrong time of year for surf or pier fishing. Did fish the cherry grove pier one day got tired of catching baby sand sharks. I caught atleast 30 of them in about 2 hours. I seen probably over 200 of them caught that night. Caught a couple of sting rays, 3 big flounder, 4 specks, and a nice red fish. I work for the state and they are always behind on paying overtime, which I was going to use to go off shore with, but didn't get that check. Oh well I guess I will save the 200+ over time hours they still owe me for a new boat next year.
  16. Going to Myrtle beach Friday night. Has anyone fished there before? checked out some reports saying the are doing good catches on reds, trout, and flounder. Anyone know of som good spots and baits (other than live shrimp and minows)?
  17. when I was doing maritime Law enforcement in Rochester while in the Coast Guard. There is no open container law (means people can drink on board), as long as the operator is sober (lower than the legal limit which I believe is .08 bac). The operator doesn't have to be the owner, You could have someone who is 18 driving the boat and everyone on board can be stunk drunk, it is not against the law.. however not safe but still not illegal. One thing to remember though, if you are going to have someone who is not going to drink and you are planning to get buzzed, make sure they can handle the boat all the way to the trailer. I made 3, boating while intoxicated arrests on the same boat because all three people took turns driving and attempted to dock it. (we were a little ticked off, while heading for a overturned vessel rescue they almost hit us and the sheriff's boat, then kept refusing to dock the boat. They were so drunk, they thought it would be funny to head straight at us full throttle and turn 20 ft away to try to splash us. Must be they didn't see all the flashing lights.
  18. Redneck and myself have been trying out new ports this year to see how things were on the eastern side, (got tired of driving from the southern tier to the Oak). We launched out of the state park around 6:30 and set lines heading east out of the chute 15-24 fow. The 1st rod fired before we could get the second one out (some home made lure that I picked up at a sportsman show), but no one home. After a 2 more rods set, another fired and Ray's little guy landed a small brown (released). we kept circling the 1st bluff wanted to stay out of the traffic down at the 2nd bluff, Fish were biting until about 9:30, We went 6 for 13 the four we kept were 4-6lb browns. We then headed straight north out to 160 fow seen a few marks on the screen and the water temp had dropped from 51-52* in close to 44* out deep. we pulled rods with out another rod firing after 9:30. Fish came on J9 blck and silver, and fire tiger, glow frog and 42 second. Riggers set 50ft back 10-15 down. Hearing on the radio that nobody was really catching much, only heard 2 boats they said they only had 1 each. After talking to Billy V and Screwy louies, I think I have found a new port to call the place I fish. Billy, Thanks for the info, that is a beautiful place to fish out of.
  19. Sorry ray not this week going to training, Switched my days off again now tuesday morning (like that will happen with mandates) till thursday night off.. That still gives us weds.....
  20. that stick is a thunderstick JR. Not sure of the name. Closest we could find to the PR
  21. I figured as much to run the higher RPM's was better, wanted to get an idea from people who work on them for a living vrs someone who does it for fun. My had has bent up a few trolling plates, Personally I prefer the bags. thanks for the info Tim
  22. dremarquis My boat is a 16 ft too. Mine is old, beat up (reason for the name Poverty Stricken), but it floats, runs, and catches fish. I have taken mine every where, Oswego, Sodus, and Oak Orchard. I have been out to 400 ft of water (can't see land). I have taken it out in some tough sea's. The point I am trying to make is get confortable with the boat, your abilities to handle it, and set maximum conditions that you would or would not go out in. Mine are no limits on how far I go out, (got a Handheld GPS, Cell phone, and VHF) take extra gas if know I am going out that far, the most important thing is weather check the forecast, I don't take mine out if it is calling for more than 15 knots. The boat may be able to handle more wind and bigger waves but I am not wanting to go out and deal with frustration that comes with wind and rough conditions. Luckily for me, I had spent some time in the Coast Guard and can handle a boat pretty well, my limitations are set based on the boats abilities. Just my 2 cents
  23. I have a question for you great marine mechanics. The Redneck Yacht had a new 4.3 V-6 motor put in. This thing is idles smooth and runs great. The question I have is the boat will troll down to 1.8 MHP without a plate or bags. The question is should bags/plate be used to keep up the RPMs? Does the extra few RPMS really help the motor or should he use a fuel cleaner to keep the carbon build up down? the only thing that was not replaced on this motor was the intake and exhaust manifolds, the carb was rebuilt. thanks in advance for the replies.
  24. Stix, water was clear. We could see bottom to about 12 ft. We stayed in a 1/4 mile stretch making loops. If you head east out of the chute to the point, there is an old concrete building. From there to a garage that has green canvas, more like a carport. One other boat there, they fished the cove and to the marina. Not sure what they did but the stayed in about 6 fow. Gambler, The dang thing never flew. He would bow his wings then dive down a couple feet. The funny thing about that was 5 minutes before he hit the Rapala, ray said "I wonder what it be like to reel in a seagull." Next thing you know the bird was on. He came up to the boat an ray grabbed it, after a few defensive moves by me to avoid getting bit, I got the hook out and the bird was released. One thing I forgot to mention in my report was that all the fish we kept had a minimum of 5 Eyes in them. The fattest browm had foud hanging out of his mouth with the rapala. Only one fish had an Lamphry mark.
  25. Got a new one today see the pictures. PS they are not happy when your trying to remove the hook.
