The following is from the payeverydayderby: http://www.payeverydayderby.com/index.php "#6. Agrees that the minimum weight of a salmon, brown trout, lake trout or rainbow(steelhead) trout for entry in the derby must be a minimum twenty (20) pounds from 5/1 until 6/1, must be a minimum of twenty three(23) pounds from 6/1 until 7/15, must be a minimum(26) twenty six pounds from 7/15 until 8/15 and (28) twenty eight pounds from 8/16 until 9/6. The prize will be paid out each day for the single largest fish. In the event an eligible fish is not weighed in on a given day, the prize money will be carried forward until a qualifying fish is caught and weighed in. " I think you were referring to the LOC $1150 a day boat derby http://www.loc.org/which states: "This is the prize structure: $575 a day for the largest salmon and $575 a day for the largest trout, one winning fish per day per boat. Salmon minimum weight would be 20 lbs, Lake trout 15 lbs, Rainbow steelhead 13 lbs and brown trout 10 lbs. This way all trout will be competitive. For example: If a 12 lb brown trout were entered, it would take a 17.01 lake trout to beat it."

Boat parking around Wilson/Olcott
landingzone replied to Broadhorizons's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Andy, I have parked my boat on the trailer at Sunset Bay Marina in Wilson (716-751-6466) for May and part of June for the last couple of years. They charged me about $100 for that time. They do not have a launch ramp. The State Park launch is about 5 min. away. Dick -
I'm going to replace the throttle & shifting cables going from my T-8 Yamaha to the control box near the helm. They are 3-4 yrs. old & quite hard to operate. I think much of the reason is due to many changes in direction and somewhat tight turns. I plan to smooth out the approach as much as I can but I was wondering if anyone has used cables that they thought were particularly smooth in tough applications. I see lots of ads and each claims to be better than the other. I'm looking for real experience. Thanks, Dick

Are there any other launch ramps in Wilson except at the state park?

Dave, Do you know if anyone has had success with rockets up your way in the spring? Dick

Not good eh! Too bad, I was thinking of getting a couple. What is the problem? Dick

So far I'm leading?? .... at 69!

There is a loose rope pull (for emergencies) for my T8. I've never tried to use it... never needed to. Been a great motor though. Warrantee is 3 yrs. My power tilt motor failed in the last 3 mo. of coverage and it was replaced with no questions asked.

Mine is a long shaft (25" I think). There wasn't much choice of bracket position once the I/O was cleared, had adequate mounting surface area, and the prop was below the boat. I don't think I could have achieved all three with a short shaft.

Similar set up on my 24.5' Lund. Bracket, E-Z Steer, T8 Yamaha. Bracket was made and mounted by Mike's Marina in Mexico, NY.

Can't get it to work either!

In my opinion: 351 Fords are good engines Straight inboards are less problematic and easier to maintain than I/O's Twin inboards are best, single inboards are sometimes a little hard to maneuver at the dock Twin inboards are rare in a boat less than 28' The single biggest concern in boats over 10-15 yrs. old is rot in stringers, transom, or bulkheads. Stringer rot is common in older Baha's (as in many other boat brands). I had a 31' Baha and learned the hard way. Just paid for a survey on a 1988 29' Penn Yan Prowler in OH, & found stringer, transom, and bulkhead rot. Always get a survey by a competent individual before you buy!! Dick

Do any of you guys have experience with Scotty riggers set up with the 350 Rodmaster II rodholders on the #259 height extenders? I may be getting a new set of Scottys and was wondering how well these worked compared to the standard dual rodholders. Thanks. http://www.scotty.com/fishing-gear-equipment/electronic-downriggers/1117-big-water-propack-tournament-series.htm
