  1. Thanks for the post. I'm headed up tomorrow for a few days. Watching posts, I noticed folks catching fish closer to Wilson recently but running lures much deeper (100-120'). Last week near the red can, my experience was at lure depths much similar to yours ...... interesting! Obviously, we need to fish where the fish are but it's nice to have a place to start. Looks like there is a big range of possibilities. I appreciate the postings. Dick
  2. Are you guys using the new probe with the old readout? Does it work fine? Any downside compared to a complete new system?
  3. Yeah, I remember your boat now! When we set up, we were close to you. I was running on autopilot and thought I got a little close before I noticed. You turned a little away and that was helpful. I use 12# balls but you should be OK with 10#. Given that we were only fishing 30-50 ft. down, your blow back shouldn't be that bad. You might have been running a little quick. I was running about 2.5 mph SOG. Actually, I was holding the reading from my down probe at 2.0 but that usually converts to about 2.5 on the GPS. There is a healthy current in that area from the river plume so you have to slow your RPM's going into it and the opposite going against it to keep a similar down speed. PM me if I can be of further help. Dick
  4. Left home this morning in Wayne Co. at 5AM and arrived in Wilson at 6:45. Got the boat on the water a little after 7:30 and headed for the river. Not many boats on the way there and only 4 or 5 boats in view near the red can. Fished from 8:15 till 3:15 and went 9 for 10. Had one small coho. The rest were kings from 12 to 20#. Took fish going north, south, and east. Not one hit when headed west. Fished 80 to 230 FOW and all most fish came on painted lures (no silver). Hottest lure NK mag black/white/green glow and second is the same with purple glow. Could not get the copper to fire nor could I get spin doctor/fly combos to fire on the dipseys. Black/white spoons (Pirate 66 spooks) on the riggers were good. Lots of fun, lots of sunshine, no boats, & lots of fish. Here a couple pics of the fish & my crew today.
  5. Occasionally the stop beads on my Scotty riggers slide on the wire. Does anyone have any techniques that have worked to anchor them in place. I have thought of glue, RTV, etc. but haven't tried them yet. I've seen someone pinching on small splitshot on either side ........ what works?
  6. Try Cabelas. It is the only place I could find NGK's for my T-8 Yamaha. They show a CR6HS (no A at the end). http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0001134012394a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=spark+plug&Ntk=Products&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1
  7. I was at their place last Thurs. and they plan to have one for a couple days in a week or so. They hadn't picked a date yet at that time.
  8. I used the Scotty weight retriever on my Sub Troll coated wire all last year with no problems.
  9. Try this and you don't need to involve the cable at all. http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/videos/video6.html

  11. Considering a twin I/O. Autopilot is hooked to the engine with power steering pump. What modifications can be made to allow use of either engine with the autopilot? Thanks, Dick
  12. I run a high thrust T-8 (electric start) on my 24.5' Lund Genmar Sportcabin and it works fine. One advantage is that the T-8 came with power tilt & the 9.9 did not. Make sure you get a high thrust unit. Here are a couple pics of my set up.
  13. I believe that is correct with any vehicle registration. If I send mine in to Wayne County I get a hand written "thank you" note in the envelope with the new registration.
  14. The answer from Furuno was: 1) To see if it works (but not to determine if it is up to spec), see if you get a signal from the garage floor. 2) To see if the transducer is functioning up to spec, you need to hook it up to a transducer tester device which will show what strength it is reacting to 50 hz & 200 hz. They said Furuno dealers & service centers should have one of these testers. According to their website, the nearest dealer is in St. Catharines, ON!! Dick
  15. Thanks guys, the marking ability was marginal with the 582. I sent it to Furuno and it needed a new main board (total cost $550+). That's when I made a deal with them for the 585. Just wondering how good the current transducer is. I give them a call and see how they suggest to test it. Dick
  16. I know that they are compatible, at least that is what Furuno told me and I got the pigtail (with a different connector on each end) for conversion from them. My question is how can I tell if the transducer I have is functioning properly. Dick
  17. Anyone know if there is a way to test a transducer. I just bought a new Furuno FCV-585 and plan to hook it to the transducer I was using on my 582. I have a pigtail to handle the conversion in plug types. The transducer is an Airmar about 4 yrs. old and transom mounted. I would like not to buy a new one but also don't want to set everything up and then wonder about function because of the old transducer. Dick
  18. Tim, I fished the last two afternoons off Tompkin's point on Port Bay and did pretty well including several nice fish on tip downs with rosie reds & niagara shiners. Dick
  19. Vertical aluminum tube w/5" sq. welded on base, through mounted to gunnels. Made by Great Lakes Planers. Sorry about the extra ad that pops up when you enlarge the photo. Don't know where it came from??
  20. I need one stainless 0 deg. (straight up) rod holder. Anybody??
  21. This is the definition from the Pro/Am site: 16. Pro Division Definition: Any Captain or team member, excluding the observer, who is/was (or has been within the past 5 years) a licensed charter boat captain, fishing guide, or commercial fisherman, is required to enter the Pro Division. All others may enter the Amateur Division. Amateurs may enter the Pro Division if openings are available.
  22. Jeeeeze...... forgot which end I was going around...... Fixed it!!
  23. re. license What I usually do, is get it at the Canadian Tire as you enter St. Catharines on the QEW right after you cross the Welland. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?name=Canadian+Tire&city=St+Catharines&state=ON&address=459+Welland+Ave&zipcode=L2M+5V2&country=CA&latitude=43.17386&longitude=-79.21754&geocode=ADDRESS&id=24971260
