Lake Ontario Bait compared to Lake Huron & Lake Michigan
Rich D replied to RUNNIN REBEL's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Actually if you listened to what the trawls were finding last year, was the gobies are going deeper and deeper every year. So I believe we will see the LTs eating them more and more, especially since they are easier to catch for them. Salmon and lakers do eat pretty much the same food, esp when the kings are eating in that deep water, and the bait is down near the bottom due to temps. We need to sit back and see what happens this year. We can think and say what we want, Mother Nature in the end will level the playing field and everything will be fine. Take for example the die off of Steelies we had last year in the tribs. That was Mother Nature doing her job on keeping everything in balance. We can do all the research and studies, and try to counter act everything, but in the end she will prevail. Just my two cents. Now get out and enjoy the great fishery we have, whether it be kings, Browns, Steelies or lakers!!! Capt Rich -
With the north winds guys, you area will be in the ice box!! We have had the same thing down here when the south winds blow all our warm water north. The farther south you go, the warmer the water gets. If the wind shifts, the you will get some water and the temps back. Might be better to hang in the harbor looking for some trout along the south shore, just a thought. Capt Rich

That is great Tom, I did not know you were on this forum also!!! Thank You!!! Capt Rich

Since you are pretty much dry storage, the electrics will work just fine. If you are a member of thehulltruth.com, there is a guy that works for Bennett, goes by Tabman, send him a message and he will give you all the info you need. He will tell you size, and any other info you need. Good Luck. Capt Rich.

I was looking at possibly replacing my Bennett hydraulic tabs to their new electric tabs, and was told if you leave the boat in the water, they Recommend the hydraulic system. I understand what you are looking for as far as leveling with people, but like was stated before, they won't give you bow lift. Go to Bennett's website, loads of info!! Capt Rich

This Saturday?
Rich D replied to klecko's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Yes, good idea to hold off, here is the forecast for now: Saturday Southwest winds 15 to 20 knots becoming northwest and increasing to 35 knot gales. Rain showers likely during the day... then lake effect snow and rain showers Saturday night. Waves 1 to 3 feet building to 7 to 10 feet. Sunday Northwest gales to 35 knots diminishing to 5 to 10 knots. Lake effect snow showers likely during the day...then snow likely Sunday night. Waves 10 to 14 feet subsiding to 3 to 5 feet. Monday -

Sold / Closed WTB: Penn manual downrigger
Rich D replied to Todd in NY's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Todd, Look on www.thehulltruth.com, the ocean guys use the Penns more than most freshwater guys. I believe I saw a few for sale there. Capt Rich -
I agree with Glenn, I had a T8 on my 240 Thompson fisherman, and it was more than enough!! Top speed was 6.5-7.0 at WOT, but thankfully never needed to use it for that. Good Luck Capt Rich
