LG, There was no oil spill in Fairhaven. I am assuming that the winds were pretty nasty up there today, along with snow, that nottoo many if anyone at all got out. HOpe fully next weekend. Rich

Heard last weekend there was a couple of small boats out and were doing a couple of browns off the beach. The ice finally went down/out of the bay this week. They started to put boats in 2 days ago. After this nice snow event that mother nature gave us there will be guys out. If I hear anymore I will put it here. Rich

Dale, We will be heading out west on May 3rd and return the 8th. We will most likely be traveling 104 all the way out. It is not too bad except a little congested through Rochester for a few miles. good Luck, let me know if you are coming out. Rich

Rich They have 2 derbys this spring along with the LOC for the spring and summer . I will post more when I find aout about them.

Jobsite, I just ordered 2 spools of 1000' of 30 lb wire from www.captgarys.com Ask for Vinnie, I paid around $34.00 a spool. McMaster raised their prices and will not sell a 1000' spool anymore. As far as rod tips, you can get away with just the regular tip if it is not grooved yet, and then change it when it starts to groove. Depending on how many times a year you use it you may get years out of it before you need to change it. I have never heard of the guide on the reel wearing out due to the use of wire, as of yet. Your Big Jon multi's should be just fine for dipsey use, as long as the unit is mounted securely to the boat. Good Luck, and welcome to the wire rod crew. It will produce a lot of fish for you. Just make sure that when you spool the reel with the wire that you put it on as tight as possible and then let it out the first time out with a 1lb ball and then reel it back in. If itis not on tight it can and will cut into itself while fishing. Rich

Bob, The only report I can give you is: Oswego River rippin high and dirty, 3-4 foot rollers in front of Colemans. No one fishing the river or the harbor, dad never got out of the truck. Lake Ontario off the Plant: Lake was nice, 1-2 out of the east, ice visible offshore about 3-5 miles, not boats sighted all day. Heard there was a couple of boats in at Mike's on the Little Salmon, I have not confirmed this, I know theywere putting docks in yesterday there. Won't be long now. Rich

Bill, I second that, great article, now you will have to do one on the Haberno and how it works so good in Fairhaven. It is one day closer to splash down, we need warmer weather though. It is starting to look like we may need to run over to Canada when we go west. Time will tell. Rich

Rick, I thought you were staying at Kevin's marina? That is where myself, and Nick(Bob's Boy) are going to be docked. I am not sure if anyone else is going to be there or not. Let me know where you guys are staying. Rich

Rick, I am docking the boat at the yard and will be staying at the KOA in Lewiston. I will over to see you guys, I will be pulling in the 3rd. I can't wait to get out there. Rich

Adam, You can atttach it anywhere above the weight, just not to the weight itself. If you do it will affect the dive plane of the weight. Good Luck. Rich

Mark, I will remember that when you call me on the radio when we are out at the bar and I hammering the fish. You will call on the radio and ask what I am using,I am going to say your tried and true NO SEEUM spoon. It is getting closer, but not close enough yet. Pulling the rig out this week. Rich

Well, all I can say is that we got to wet our lines. The river was high and muddy. We fished for almost 3 hours and never hooked a fish. My cousin ahd a hit on a white bucktail tipped with a worm. Wrner's nephew Matt said he had a couple of hits on a jig also. We saw 4 fish landed up closer to the locks in the slower water. they were small rainbows, and 1 walleye. The guys were using egg sacs for the trout. I am hoping to get up there maybe Thursday, but I may use that day and work on the boat. the good times are coming, it need to warm a little more and then the bait will move in. I took the wife to Rudy's for lunch and the shoreline all the way from the harbor past Rudy's was covered with 12-15' high ice banks. It is going to be a good brown year. Good Luck if you get out. Going to order from Vinnie today from Capt. Gary's. It seems to be the cheapest I have been able to find. I saw that at McMasters also, was kind of disappointed. Oh well, will spend the $$ some where else. Rich

Rod, I would suggest taking the reel off and mounting it on the rail on your flybridge. This will make no more holes in the boat, and it will put it up higher than the mast will put it up. I would mount it as far forward as possible to get the board towards the front of the boat. You can put a cannon retrieve on the line to pull it down to set your lines. Just a thought. Rich

Rod, Just remember Henderson is usually the last place the ice melts. We usually see ice out up there around the first week of April, but it might be later this year. It will give you more time to get the boat rigged. Rich

Rod, Going out and around the islands is not that bad, there are guys that fit under the bridge and still go around. It saves a little time but not too much. Going to Hidden Harbor will be a much closer run to the Shiping lanes but when the fish hit the Trench it will be a lot farther. Stony Creek is run to get to the trench and out to the Lanes, but the Lanes is trip from anywhere. If it is windy out of any of the Wests( SW,W,NW) it is a little tricky getting in and out of there, esp. being new to the area. there are open slips on the east side of the Harbor, but I am not sure how much less $ they will be. Just my opinion, You could always check over in Sacketts also, it will be closer by venicle to get to, but it might be a little more $$$. Just a thought. Rich

About 12-15 years ago I was out of Henderson trolling off the dunes for Salmon in 140 fow when the port side dipsey got hammer and started peeling line. I had my cousin's girlfriend on the boat and handed her the rod after I got it out of the holder. After about 10 minutes she is getting the fish up towards the boat, I see the dipsey and then I see the fish. I said to myself that is one funny looking king. lol Then the fish comes to the surface and it is a 6' American eel. One of the biggest I had seen, not sure what the heck it thought the dodger squid was but he wanted it. I was going to cut the hook off but the hook pulled out just as I was about to cut the line. Up in the Trench every year we get at least one bass down 100-120 feet on the meat, so this is not so surprising I guess. Rich
