Sorry jay, have to disagree.. I have had numerous days this season when my hawk was reading 2.5, but my divers and cables said way slower. Bump it up to 3.4-3.7 on FH and get bit. This season has been very weird, a lot of days needed to have 3.4-3-7 to get bit on numerous Boats. Most didn’t believe it until they tried it.... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Wanted Line counter trolling reels and combos
Rich D replied to Yankmycrank's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Joe You don’t need line counters for lead cores, especially the longer cores. For your short cores, any L-ML Downrigger rod will work. For your longer cores look at M rigger rods, or leadcore rods, Daiwa Great Lakes rods have a very nice leadcore rod that wouldnwork perfect!! For the longer core, do yourself a favor and find a high speed reel, Daiwa Seagate 50, Sealine 50, or Saltist 40,50 will fit the bill perfectly. I know Okuma has reels, but not sure which models will work. Good Luck Capt Rich Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
There is a problem with that statement.... trust your temp on your electronics, but not necessarily the speed. I can give you numerous examples of where my FH was reading 2.4-2.6 and my dipseys and cables were almost straight down, and or not cracked over to show that speed. I would keep bumping up the speed until I got the angle and the bend I was looking for, reading was 3.4-3.7 on FH and bingo, rods started firing. I was not the only one seeing the same thing. You have to read more than just your electronics, you need to be able to see what the lake and the fish are telling you!!! Your electronics will give you a starting point, but read what all of the other aspects are telling you!!! Lately with these crazy currents i have been over 3.0 on the FH more than I have been under. If you are not learning something new every time you are out, then you are not being very observant. Good luck. Capt Rich. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

My team is looking for an observer for the ATOMMIK Invitational, August 10 to fish with the team for big fish Friday, Capts meeting that night, and for the Invitational Saturday. Sunday is the blow off day, so would also have to keep Sunday open just Incase. Please let me know if you are interested, and for more info, you will be on a 29’ boat or bigger. This is a great learning experience, you will see some new techniques, and possibly some secrets!! Thank You!! Capt Rich Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Everyone is so stuck on fishing “temp”, if you were able to attend the State of the Lake meeting 2 years ago, or were able to get the notes, there was/is a study going on by the Canadian DNR. They put pop up tags on kings and a steelheads. The info they shared as far as where these fish go will open your eyes!!!! Adult Kings during June, July, and early August in 65-70 degree water.... we are guessing what they are doing is eating, then they dive back down into the freezer to digest, then back up again 6-8 hours later. So after seeing that info, and watching what my Furuno has been telling me... out something in that “hot” water!!! So here is a spread I started with..... I run 3 riggers on my boat, probe rigger is at 50 degrees, then I will put my deep rigger in the freezer, usually 15-25’ below the 50 degrees, this is usually a meat rig, unless it is a strict spoon bite. Other corner rigger is 10-20’ above the probe, depending what I am seeing on the screen. Usually will be a spoon, until the fish tell me they want FF or meat. Dipseys are usually run one above and one below 50 degrees, until I see where the active fish are!!! Coppers..... one board will have a short copper... this weekend I was running 300,350,450,500.... all took bites.... but I will always put a shirt copper in the “oven”.... 60-65 degree water, this usually has a plug, or a bright colored stingray on it!!! The other board will have a copper for 50 degrees and that will start with a FF or meat from now on, but will get changed of the spoons are on fire. Chute copper will be a meat rig, and that will be in the freezer!!!! This rod took my biggest fish of the weekend!!! Take the blinders off, read what the fish are telling you and then dial it in!!!! Do not, and I repeat “ DO NOT” live by your probe!!! Let the fish tell you what they want!!! Goood Luck, if you are out of Oz this weekend, I will be out every day starting Friday for a week, shoot me a pm and I will pass along what I am finding!! Capt Rich. Started in 85 went out to 250-300 and back in again. Our big fish came on spoons but we did have 8-10 meat bites today. Temp was a little deeper, 75-80’ down, but most of our fish came up in the warm water. Speeds were tricky, but read your cables and dipseys. Capt Rich Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Ace was even complaining about the build up on the 40lb the other day. I went to 50lb with no issues on the 50lb. As soon as the 30lb hit the water we had fleas. They are thicker this year than any other year I can remember. Capt Rich Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Fleas/Cottonwood-7/3 pm
Rich D replied to Impact 1850's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Maybe where you where Andy, but all of mine were fleas. If it was cottonwood, it would have been all over the 50lb just like the 30, but the 50 was clear all the way. Either way it creates a mess. Will be gone in a couple weeks. Capt Rich Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
