what lures are hot?
Fishstix replied to jerry rig's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
George some good food for thought there. -
Some food for thought Stinger. If the fish are biteing one rod is enough. If their not biteing ,one rods to many. Im thinking about taking the Month of April off and just fishing ,with just one rod. Best of luck to all participants. Ill be back with a vengence next year.

The secrete is not to swat them. You kill one and a hundred show up for the funeral... -

Oswego 7/6
Fishstix replied to ray koziatek's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Try hideing behind a tree with a paintball gun. Ott Oh what have I done. Avoid the pack. The fish dont stay in one place they swim around. Ive never fished out of Oswego . After reading this I never will. -

I just noticed that on the leaderboard. Ill take credit anyway I can get it. Rest of the derby Im steelhead fishing. Maybe I can get two on the board.Hee Hee. BTW nice steelie,my favorite fish to fish for and favorite to catch.I just havent had a good one go,yet.. -
The bite has improved and the lake seems to be setting up. Caught many fish including browns. When we got off the water Sunday about 11am the east wind was kicking up. That will probably change things around again. BTW I had the 1st place King on Fri. but I see its down to 3rd already. Hope it hangs in there. No set color pattern . The best fish came out of temp.Lots of radio chatter about the one that got away.....

We been saying that all yr. Did manage a few fish this weekend . Biggest suprise was a laker in 70fow on a dodger fly. Caught a 18lb salmon on a stinger *ghost* spoon in about 150fow 90 down. The good ole RR grape dot watermellon did a bow about 5lbs. We went north south east and west. Not much happening. Did hear of a 9lb brown caught so maybe they will start showing up. -
RR Let me know if a 28lb laker is gonna be big enough.

1000ft spool of wire. I use Mason brand.. Theres probably other stuff out there just as good. I was looking over my Berts rodholders and they are looking questionable after only a few years.Getting a little side slop. Wire hits are vicious. Its sometimes hard to get the rods out of the rodholders when the fish is running.

New Savants get bit 6/14/08

I like the looks of the "Purple Taffey" Im going to have to find a couple. Im down to my last "purple glow pirate" -
Get black or clear ones. I like the transparent snubbers. when you tie up your leaders {between dipsey and lure] be sure its not so long you cant net the fish. Buy the strongest rodholders you can find. Flush mount are best. Keep the wire tight. I like to spool mine out on the lake. At trolling speed let the line out with a 1lb weight then spool it back on the reel. 1000 ft is a lot of cranking but its easier than trying to get out a birdnest. Check to end of the wire daily for burrs and cut it off and retie regularly. Keep the wire out of the prop.it makes it kinky and hard to tie. Lots more to add here but I cant think of any more.

Fishstix replied to bretter's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Thanks for the report. Ill be out there tomorrow afternoon sometime. It seems things havent changed much.Ill be looking forward to your reports. We did 8 kings last Sat. Only one in the teenage range. Sunday was about the same except for a rainbow that broke a sampo swivel. Best spoon was a September spoon. We also picked up a nice laker off the top.....on a penna dolphin. This has been a tough yr at Hughes. But the fish will come sooner or later. There are some big rainbows there you just have to put your time in to find one. -
My propwash rigger is awalys the best one. Looks like a rainbow killing machine to me. As far as netting Well you gatta catch em first. Probably needs all those engines to push the gas tank around.

If were going to talk about good fishing we gotta talk about last yr... Ran 8 rods all day Sat , 1 fish . Sunday fished 1/2 day, 6 fish all dinks. Still no brn.trout. Good temp. even worked some baitpiles. Holy Mackerel had a good day Sat had one king 20lbs maybe he can post a good report. Hes a member now.

Last I heard global warming was going to trigger another ice age.Good news for the hard water guys. Thanks Ray. BTW I went with a fixed bracket to mount the motor. Then bought a kicker motor with power tilt. I had one of those springup push down latch finger pinchers on the last boat.If anyones having trouble convincing the wife tell her its a safety thing. you would not want to get caught in the middle of the lake with a dead motor.

Let me start with the specs.21ft fiberglass boat ,walkaround cuddy. Dont know the weight but Arima is the manufacturer. A 115 Yamaha 4 stroke motor and a 8 hp Yamaha kicker motor. Both motors have seperate hr.meters. 10hrs on main motor and 66hrs on kicker motor since last fillup. They both pull gas out of the same tank. I squeezed in 25 gallons of gas. Thats 3hrs fishing per gallon. I dont know how many hrs per gallon the 115 uses but before I installed the kicker it seemed like I was filling up every other weekend. I dont open the 115 up like I used to I just get er up on plane and level er off. I do use synthetic oil in both engines, supposed to help also. Before I bought my kicker I did a lot of resurch , found out you dont really need a high horsepower kicker. Your boat wont go fast unless you can get it up on plane.8hp was probably more than I needed but it was the lowest hp unit that had power tilt and trim. So I think 3hrs per gallon is pretty darn good for a boat that size. Still expensive but keeps the cost down in the working mans range. Anyone else have anything to compare?
