  1. The one thing I see no one talks about much is the lack of gas station competion. Used to be 4 or 5 stations of different brands trying to get your business now [at least in our area ] the same couple guys own them all. As for diesel at $3.89 if they tried that 20 yrs ago the independent truckers would have shut the highways down. Now its company drivers . I used to know probably 15 independents back then .Now I know one and hes working for me... My gas milege is all over the place. 10 below is about the lower limit for the diesel fuel Having a awful time with chainsaws. But for one dollar I can get a hotdog and 16oz. fountain drink with a fillup.
  2. You could just put the rodholders in the desired position then drill a couple holes thru the mount and rail. Then get some good stainless locknuts and bolts. Crank em tight. I tried a couple pieces of PVC in the gap once ,it didnt last. Best option is get some that fit.
  3. I was at Cargill salt friday afternoon and the canal end was frozen about 50 ft or so out into the lake.
  4. A few years back I switched my 115 Yamaha to synthetic motor oil. The reason I did it is at 100hrs.the regular oil appeared to be beatup and drained out like water. Yamaha does not recomend synthetic in their engines. Well so far [3yrs] so good the engine runs quieter ,seems to burn less fuel.(dont know for sure} and at 100 hrs when I drain the oil it still looks like oil. Last yr I added a new Yamaha HT8 kicker put about 400hrs on it. I started this motor out with synthetic oil, Ive changed it 4 times and it drains out almost like "new oil". I want everyone to know Yamaha DOES NOT RECOMEND synthetic motor oil. But Ive got to say it works for me. I use synthetic gear oil in my truck transmissions and rears . Since I switched no tranny or rear problems. And my stuff gets abused.{log trucks} The reason behind this post is I agonized a long time before switching to synthetic. The stuffs expensive and so are boat motors. But I think its worth it. No Im not a oil salesmen. But it is the time of year to think about your motor oil. reducing friction = better milege. I do not use synthetic in my p/up or car but if gas keeps going up Im going to give it a try.Probably shortly. Im hearing 4bucks a gallon by summer.
  5. Wow another optimiser got mentioned! Also the Sept spoon. I take it were talkin salmon here. I usually dont start fishing for salmon till August, Spring early summer about everything has their day. 1. Black purple optimiser 2. Fishlander shark (last yr)
  6. Ill take bows over Kings. Gamblers right about the propwash bite. It usually only happens a few times a year. 10 plus lb brns will give you a pretty good scrap also.
  7. 30lb pink ande. No florocarbon for me.
  8. A professional set of pinking shears,so I can scallop my tape. Had a smokin yr last yr, not changing much.
  9. Another plug for Big Jons. Ive fished on other boats with Cannons,Scotties,Penns etc. Ive rebuilt my big Johns twice now .Ive had em 20yrs and they were used when I got them. I to think there is something to that long flexable arm out to the side when your rockin and rollin. New gears ,bearings ,spools bushings and switches.Parts for both came to about $240 bucks but they are new again. Big jon has several models Im talking about the ES 1000 model. Top of Big Jons line. I also have a couple of the new captains packs and they are not the rigger the ES 1000"s are.I had a spool break in half last yr bringing a 12lb ball with the temp probe hooked to it' I didnt lose the probe but I now keep a pair of leather gloves handy. If I was to buy new I would go with the upper model I think they are now called a "speed rigger". With the big jons everything is out in the open and easy to get to. I call it the" beauty of simplicity"
  10. Im still lookin....
  11. After the last couple yrs. Im starting to think "Less is better" Meaning I don't catch any more fish with a couple rods out than 6 or 8. If the fish are biteing two rods are enough. If their not biteing two are to many. In the spring when they are on top I like to run as many rods as I legally can. But mid summer I do better with two cannonballs down w/4 rigger rods. Two rods per rigger.I run down and outs stacked on the top rigger rods. Its a bit of a pain stacking rods on a rigger line but it seems to pay off when the bite is slow. Most everyone catches fish when they are biteing, not many do when they arent. I use the adjustabe dime dipseys.
  12. Ray ,grab some of his purple glows.
  13. `1 Ray, I think its the headhandles that women cant resist. 2 Women like fine china ,like a sugarbowl. 3 Sweet Polly cant resist underdog. 'Theres no need to fear Underdog is here.'
  14. Just wanting to start a thread on what people have learned from this board to improve their fishing. Was it speed? line? temp? lures?or whatever. Just something you learned from this board that really worked.. Best overall tip for me has been the Other Fishstyx's wireknot.I now retie every weekend and probably cut my lure losses 90%.
  15. Im not sure I really understand your question but Ill tell you how im Setup. I run two depthfinders . One set on 200 to track bottom .One set on 50 zoomed into the depth IM fishing. They dont interfere with each other .
  16. Finally something you can get the better half for around the house.
  17. The purple frog in the upper left hand side of the picture has been a great spoon the last couple years. If you hear of a spoon called "Barney" on the radio ,thats the one. We call it Barney at Hughes Marina .
  18. The bottom side of that spoon is interesting. Im going to have to build a couple. Thanks for the pix.

  22. Thanks for the report. You guys are really going after em this winter."Good work"
  23. This is just a topic starter for a problem Ive had lately. Well more or less since the temps have been going up and down. Probably since September. Its trying to buy good gas. We cant seem to keep the chainsaws running . Hard starting ,wont idle, over rev quit ,spit ,no power, pull and pull just one thing after another. We've decided its the gas Ive run preminum ,regular, tried all the brands switched mix oils everything. I now take three saws to work and Im usually down to one by the end of the day. Husquavara the best. Well the reason I brought it to this board is I wonder what kind of problems we are going to have with our marine engines? IMO opinion the new gas is crap. Both my pickup and car have dropped over 5 MPG. {toyota tundra, honda accord] My Yamahas on the boat seemed to run just fine last yr .I sure hope they get this gas situation squared away by fishing season. Last thing we need is engines quitting with a full spread back . Not to mention the price we are paying for the gas. Anyone else having gasoline problems?
  24. Let me try and remember what I had to hunt for last year. 1 batteries, large and small 2 good hooksharpener{this item will be complete post someday} 3 cutbait 4 large splitrings 5 light rubberbands 6 stackers that work [ as far as im concerned no decient ones out there ended up useing homeade ones] 7 fuses , all the different types 8 stainless steel screws 9 spray paint 10 oil , two stroke 0r four stroke 11 crimp on electrical terminals 12 Oh yea , purple dipseys and beer 13 block ice 14 boat trailer tires and tube patch kits 15 12v light bulbs 16 those cheap throw away styrofoam coolers 17 good, decient priced sunglasses 18 dry gas 19 propane 20 Why bother,Pegs, I want it back ,leisure suit, and neighbor spoons
