I switched to 12 last yr from always running 17. I bought a 1lb spool of 12 and I hope to use it up this yr. Then Im going back to 17. 12 just isnt strong enough if you snag bottom. Never noticed a catchrate difference in the two lines. Im probably in the minority here but Im not at all happy with florocarbon. In my experience it becomes brittle after a big fish gives it a good stretch and breaks on the next one. If the browns are there and they are on the bite speed and color are much more important.

I know the "no Promoses" boat so thats why I added the -15 for charter capts, after thinking about it I should have made it +15 points.Just kidding . Shawn you are welcome.

These are my experiences with kicker motors. W/ why I did the last one like I did. My last boat I installed a kicker with one of those sprink loaded kick up brackets. All I ever did was fight the bracket .Those kicker motors get heavy towards the end of the day. Plus I didnt dare transport it down the highway with the motor on the bracket. One more thing to mess with. Also I let a buddy of mine use my boat and he cut a fingertip off in that stupid bracket. I also think those easy steer arms that mount on the rear off the motors turned into a big pain also. I had to constantly adjust it. It would fall apart at the worst times. This time I got a front mount bracket from Yamaha. So hopefully that problems fixed. As far as how much horsepower you need from everything Ive read your just not going to get much speed unless you can get your boat up on plane. This time I installed a FIXED BRACKET . Its all alumium and powdercoated. You bolt it to the back of the boat and your done. A mule couldnt pull it off. I bought it from a place on the left coast.Around 300 bucks delivered to my door.I also bought a motor with power trim. I bought a yamaha mainly because my main motor was a Yamaha. The motor is set back aways from the back of the boat to allow the motor to tilt forward. I set mine up for remote control with a regular ole Yamaha control box. My autopilot controls the kicker off the steering link from my main motor. Wireing was probably the biggest nightmare. But I finally got it squared away.I run a dual battery, dual engine,With a perco 3 postion battery switch. If interesed Ill tell you how I did it. Ive been thinking about this kicker project a couple years ,mainly for brn trout fishing.I like to get in close. Run the boards in where the waves are breaking. Now I wont have to worry so much about the big rocks.I also think gas is going to get crazier than it already is.

Glad you learned . Your a good guy to have on board. After getting home last night and thinking about it. We probably should have switched to suttons and cowbellpeanuts. With the water so cold the fishes metabolism has probably slowed down and they just werent interested in chaseing stuff wizzin by.Its a ways off but we will have to see what next weekend brings may have to give er another shot. Goin slow.

Hermit were heading out at 9 from Treman. Be there or be square.

Ive been waiting for this report. Im not planning on hittin the water till 9 or so. Glad you caught some. I had a guy tell me once that the lampreys target the brns because they are the slowest swimmers. Im looking forward to a good day on the water. I figured the fish are still deep I dont think we have had a warm rain yet.

Hey Chaos. The leaves out in Virgina yet? Mowing grass down there? Cherry blossoms?

One man legal limit. Each Laker =2pts Largest laker of day =4pts Each Brn trout= 3pts largest brn of day =4pts Each LLock = 4 pts largest of day = 5pts Each Rainbow=5pts Say you catch 3 lakers and one is largest of the day your total would be 10 pts. You get 2 pts for each fish plus 4 bonus points. It would work the same way for all the species of fish. Of course all fish would have to be legal size. You would not need all 5 fish to be elligable to win. Highest score wins all. In the event of a tie the freshest looking, best kept catch wins. Charter Captains start with a score of -15.Welcome aboard "No Promises"

This didnt happen to me but its a great story. A buddy of mine had a pickup truck with a gun rack in the back window. He had a couple fishing poles on the rack rigged ready for fishing. Well he ended up with one of the "ladies of the evening" and she happened to be wearing a bulky sweater. When she got out of the truck one of the hooks got caught in her sweater. My buddy said as he was driving away he heard the drag clicking off,he cut the line and let her go. True story.

NUT ... A couple yrs ago I bought her her fishing licence, sighned her up for the 1k a day derby, both LOC derbys. She never went out even once. To hot ,to cold ,to rough,To calm ,to early, to late .To long ,to far. Jeez I wish I could read all of the posts.

Reel Escape thats another good thought. Im thinking this is going to be a nightmare. They must make a dual battery, dual engine switch.
-
Hank the owners manual does not have the info I need. One more problem Ive been thinking about. I have dual batteries with a battery selector switch. Ive read somewhere that you should not connect both engines to one battery.for the reason that both engines may be running at the same time. Could burn the stator out.... Do you have a schmatic for dual engine, dual battery, single battery selector switch? My battery switch is OFF 1 DUAL 2 Also all my electronics are fed off the main engine key. Will it be alright to have that key switch on when running the trolling motor? Am I making more of a project of this than I need to?

I got my control box in, kicker mounted, fuel hooked up ,most all wiring done.Problem is I dont have a picture or instructions for hooking the cables and brackets to the front of the motor. Anyone got a service manual or instructions on how to do this? I would imagine the adjustments are critical. My email is [email protected]

AHHHHH sounds like Chaos is getting serious on this fishing derby stuff. My suggestions Line.. 30lb wire 1000ft rod.. blue diamond 10ft roller reel... Tekota 600lc rodholders... Berts There are other ones out there that work just fine. But for me this seems to be the best.I basically use my dipseyrods as much as I use my downriggers. So they get lots of action. For years I ran penn 330 reels and diawa rods . I used a clip on the rod linecounter.I usually start with 300fett of wire out and go from there. Thats a lot of winching. I used to lose a lot of gear the first few yrs of wire fishing. Now ive got the tackle loss under control.Better knots, smoother drags etc. Chaos before you go much further Ill take you out fishing in my boat and show you what works for me.Early spring fishing will probably be my only fingerlake fishing. with the exception of your derby. Ill probably skip the memorial derby on Seneca.

Im in the 2% area. Awalys will be. The notorious WILDMAN got a campsite next to me this year. It should be a riot.Great water ,a few less fish, lots fewer people. Lots of big fish caught there everyyear. I hope its my turn this year during a derby.

Good question. Ive been looking at the optima batteries at $150 a pop I wounder if they are worth it.Ive had good luck with interstate batteries. Not so good luck with NAPA batteries.

I guess I wont have any pictures or be able to finish my thread. My computer with photoshop and all the goodies is broke again.Im in no real hurry to get it fixed either. A little progress report . Ive got the fixed bracket temporally mounted.I have to remove it to caulk it up as its to cold for caulk now. The measurement from the top of the bracket to the waterline is 24" That means I need a long shaft kicker. It puts my cavation plate 1" below the surface. My throttle and shift cables are 18ft. The dealer says measure the length and add 3ft. for gradual loops. I will also be adding a hour meter. Its supposed to be a easy add in .Yellow wire in the harness to the meter ,then back to ground.

Yea we tried to get some trash talk going . It was just in fun though.I suggest the best legal one man limit per boat. Wins period. No difference between how many are in the boat or how you fish. troll. jig. bait. etc. I havent looked in a couple years but I think its 5 fish ,3 lakers plus 2 trout or salmon .Someone please correct me if im wrong. Also some type of time period daylight till say 2 PM Weigh in at 3 PM .One day would be enough for me also. I can aways make Sundays but Saturdays are aways questionable. Keeping it simple and having fun is the object. Just a suggestion for a one man limit.{that I think is 5 fish} Each Laker =2pts Largest laker of day =4pts Each Brn trout= 3pts largest brn of day =4pts Each LLock = 4 pts largest of day = 5pts Each Rainbow=5pts Say you catch 3 lakers and one is largest of the day your total would be 10 pts. You get 2 pts for each fish plus 4 bonus points. It would work the same way for all the species of fish. Of course all fish would have to be legal size. You would not need all 5 fish to be elligable to win. Highest score wins all. In the event of a tie the freshest looking, best kept catch wins.

JD Im not getting any younger and the fishing probably wont get any better.I made the plunge a couple yrs ago and took out a 2nd mortgage on the house.I seen the Islander back against the wall 30k. It seems like yesterday they were 19k. The Trophy's were over 30 also.
