Sodus Pt If you go to the end of Rt 14 and turn right. Its in town there on the right hand side. The guy has stuff , lots of stuff, even vampires. optimisers and old metal dodgers. My kinda stuff.
-
I like "Fishey Fishey in the brooke come and bite on Fishstix hook" It gets said everytime on the water/
-
I dont know whats gonna happen . But I do know a big snowmelt sure helps the brown trout fishing in our area.
-
I was up New Yrs day. The old shop looked dark . I figured he just was not open.He probably should put a sign in the window.
-
Jeeezz shoot me a Pm I dont live that far from you. If you want some info. on salmon stuff you could come over . Ill show you what works for me.
-
Dave I need the length to get out and over the down riggers.Especally if the winds blowing. They are also a great speed indicator when running dodgers . Rod tip will pulse.
-
Hermit I dont really know what to tell you.Somedays the riggers work. Somedays the divers work. Some days they both work. And somedays nothing works. My best setup is two riggers and two divers.I run 12lb balls and short leads.Usually less than 10ft.I also have better luck on larger size spoons. As for the wire setups .{Im on my 3rd setup} I m running the 10ft roller rods and Tekota linecounter reels.I usually run stuff back 300ft.None of us guys are spring chickens and 300ft is a lot of cranking but its not to bad with the tekotas. Most of the guys I fish with wont touch the wires when a fish hits. To much work.My best fish seem to come on the wires.I know nothing about braded line. I tried spiderwire once didnt like it. I think there is someting electric about wire. Ive never ran inline planerboards.Ive never had much luck with the smaller dipseys but Ive never given them the run time I have the largers. Ive got a slidediver setup that should work but I cant say Ive ever taken a fish on it. I guess if you wanted to mess in the top 50fow a downrigger would be best. You can awalys use a dipsey and try down and out off the riggers. I personally would not skimp on a wiresetup.

Yea we worked that mudwater . We thought thats where the fish would be. It was loaded with debris . Couldnt really troll in it. Also it was a few degrees colder than the main lake. Thats a neet picture you got from Cornell. Big Dave I cant give up all my secrets. But I do think they swim around the lake .You either find them or you dont. I cant find them during fishing derbies.

A couple brns from Cayuga today. We wasted half the day running boards.Did catch a couple pike on sticks off the boards. Moved out deep ran riggers and divers not quite as good as day before. I would like to have this brown during a derby. He is still there swimming around. Some of the bait piles Ive been seeing deep. they go on for miles. Huge clouds.I think this is why the shore guys are doing poorly . The bigger fish are on the bait. The ones we catch are lively and healthey. BTW that spoons a Stinger Tuxedo. Happy New Year

Ive got some good pictures in the camera from yesterday. I never unhooked the boat so Im ready to go this morning. Sometimes you gotta have some pink on the spoon not just copper orange. Ill get a spoon pix today.
-
RD nice picture! Thanks I could not find my rubberbands yesterday. I pinch the splitshot on with my fingers. Let me explain what Im after. You know how your trolling along and you mark a big fish high say 20 down. So you run a rigger long and high trying for those big high fish. Then your long high stuff just rots in the water. So you drop your rigger back down and "hellow"another big high fish appears They are the ones Im after. I was thinking maybe down and out was the answer. Ive got a slide diver rig . But I can only run 4 rods . I would not give up a wire dipsey or a rigger rod to run a slidediver.

Copper, pink and orange was the spoon color that took half the fish . The regular dodger fly colors we always talk about did the rest. 80 to 100 ft down. 2.1 sog
-
I tried a couple different setups off the wires today. I ran out about 100 feet of wire then clipped a lg.splitshot on the wire then clipped the cheater line above it. On the other side I used a stacker releice. Both seemed to work pretty good. I never took a fish off the cheaters on the dipsey wires. But there will be a time when they will work. I like the splitshot better than the stacker less junk in the water.

Blood bath on the Stix boat today. All lakers largest around 9lbs most all keeper size. Dodger flies off the wires. Stinger spoons off the riggers. Still deep.19 fish No brns or salmon. We are going again tomorrow I think they may have moved near shore.May run some boards.
-
Anyone got any good ideas for running fixed cheaters off the wires? Ive been thinking I should try this as the spoon would be running thru virgin water.I usually run flies off my dipseys. Im thinking if the cheater slides down it will be a tangled up mess. I am going o try rubberbanding them today on the Little lake Cayuga and hope to get something perfected for next spring.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Its good to see someone doing something in Albany . Hee Hee.

As long as the roads are not wet and salted Ill be there. The lake was lowered a lot from the weekend before. It awalys amazes me how fast they can drop the lake levels thats a lot of water to move. We should be running boards. But we are not. They must have dumped a million LL in.

I love these kind of stories . Especially during the holidays. They warm my heart.Tickel my cockles.Keep them coming Actually that same fish was caught twice. The boat had a swim platform on the back with a large cooler. When lifting the cooler off the handle broke and it dumped into the marina. The water was mud brown and we had to fish around with a net to get the fish back.Took about an hour but we got it. I think the derbys give credibility. .I write all these reports but where is the proof?
-
I can't wait. I just can't wait. I hope I can get some time off beside weekends to fish them.I look forward to these events every year.I have never took a nickel out of the LOC derbys. One of these years it will be my turn.Ive been driving the boat when LOC fish were caught ,Identifed winning fish for guys that didnt know what they had. Had fish caught in boats right next to me. .Seen many winning fish. Could this be the year?

One of the guys I fish with fishes only Stingers.I think they have their finnish problems straightened out. They do work. I think this spoon is called a parrot. Ive had nks that the clear plastic finnish has come off.Usually if a spoon is chewed up scraped up it means its working. And thats a good thing. I run everybodys everything.
