NK 28 Watermelon

I am running a 1986 Yamaha 175 two stroke & a 1996 Yamaha 9.9 high thrust four stroke on my Lund Newport 2100. As of the last month, all gas stations in my area have gone to the 10% ethanol in the gas, will this cause me any problems with these older motors? My gas tank is aluminum, & I have the standard fuel lines with a spin on water seperator. I am adding Marine Stabil (for use w/ethanol) with each fueling now. My boat is used 9 to 10 months out of the year, & only sits in the garage in January, Feburary, & part of March. I do get in the water some of these months if there is a big warm spell & the roads are dry, & launches open. What is recommended for these engines using the 10% ethanol, & what should I be worried about?? Thanks in advance for your insight & suggestions!

Fished Oneida Saturday & Sunday. Saturday morning we were greeted by a ten to 15mph wind out of the East with 28 degree air temp as we launched. The ride to the channel was cold! Caught 12 eyes, but two were short, & released, so we ended up with 10 eyes two short of our four man crew limit. We also had three nice perch. One eye on the dipsey & board rod, the rest came on the riggers. Fished 40 to 50' of water between Cleveland & Sylvan Beach. Best speed was 2.3 on the GPS. Riggers set @ 25 to 30' feet down, dipseys back 90' on a 3 setting. Jr Thundersticks are all they wanted. Sunday, only two of us went out, much nicer day with a few boats around. Did six eyes in 3 hours with three nice perch too! Same set up as Saturday. Meat pole shot of Saturdays catch. Much warmer!

Toyota has received a lot of breaks to set up business here in the states, so to say that they wern't bailed out is only partially correct. They got a lot of government $$ to put plants here. Further, they should have been prohibited from participating in the clunker program if our elected officials really wanted to help out the big three US auto makers. Remember the profit Toyota makes go back to Japan. I have a set of Bigjon riggers that are over 20 years old & still work perfectly, & I have a 1999 Merc Sable with 223,000 on it & it still gets 25 MPG, so see ya & raise ya! Also, after WWII we bailed the entire country of Japan out.

Did you hear about the toyota/lexus pending recall? Toyota tried to blame the floor mats & driver error, but the DOT thinks there is an inherent problem with the engine control system, causing the engine to go flat out on it's own. With the high horespower V-8's in some of the luxury models, 100 mph is just a few seconds away. Some pretty scary stories with a number of deaths resulting from this phenomenon. Since there are so many of this brand around, I hope they get to the bottom of the problem pronto!

IMHO! Bigjon's Brutes are the best from my point of view! Handle 20 pound sharks easily & the creep start makes them super easy to use! The two I have, have been bullit proof for this year, & show no signs of changing any time soon. Plus they have a very low profile & have very little plastic on them. The boom is a built in shock absorber that cushions the cable system from the waves. The tip up booms make rigging very easy. Don't waste your time with the others!

I run 20lb sharks on my bigjon brutes stock (as they come out of the box), no problems!

My Lowrance Global Map plotter goes down to a screen size of 105' X 105' & tells you how far you are off track by feet right or left. We always challenge the person at the wheel to hit the waypoint with the off track meter at zero. It does get slow at times & this provides some fun! A $99 memory card from them gives great & accurate detail on upstate NY lakes. Ive got about $500 into the system & it has been flawless since new in 2003. & yes I have to hit the waypoint button twice to mark a waypoint, man that really tires me out! Each waypoint is a fish hookup!

Less boats ='s more fish for me, it's OK! This year was great & next year will be too! I mostly do catch, photo, & release, so the fish are there for others to catch again. It was great being able to fish off of the Big Salmon river in the fall LOC & not be cut off by inconsiderate trollers frequently. In the past, you had to be on your toes all of the time to avoid being cut off! In two weeks of fishing there, I only had one close call, & was able avoid being cut off by someone turning behind me right after going by. Pulled wires quick & dropped the DR's deep. Our NYS gubment is broken, & they will probably kill $$ for the SR hatchery in the near future, so get them while you can. If this happens, I will switch back to walleyes, notherns & muskies, which I only target in the fall now. Remember to vote all incumbents out, as they are lining their pockets, as well as their cronies, $$ donaters, & the low lifes that wait for their monthly check while sitting on the porch with a bottle in a paper bag at 9AM in the morning, everymorning!

Well, we fished for eyes this Saturday & Sunday on Oneida, with not much luck. There was a local bass club having an outing both days, so we started the day waiting to launch for about 20 minutes, on Sunday about half of the bassers decided to stay on land, those guys are pretty quick launching! It was quite cold as well. We hooked three & landed 2 on Saturday (dropped one behind the boat STEVE!!!). Sunday, we were greeted by two foot waves as we rounded the island in front of the launch East of Bridgeport. The wind continued to build all morning till we had solid three footers with some fours & larger every now and then. Got one nice eye about 4 pounds & two jack perch before the waves got too big to be safe. The waves were very steep too! So we headed back across the lake from the Cleveland area to the South shore boat launch, made one pass from Cornell point to the East end of the deep basin (picked up the perch there). We picked up @ 11:30 so we could be home in time to watch the G-Men go for 5 & 0.

I was speaking of salmon on lake Ontario, you know, the kind you & child are holding. normally, my last outings on local upstate NY lakes are usually in late November/December, as I have an outboard powered boat & keep it in a heated garage. I have been on the finger lakes, Oneida Lake & lake Ontario as late as the Xmas/ New years week, just depends on the weather.

A certain modedrator "L&M" was doing it (prospecting for business)!! Must be a perk for the moderators that i was not aware of. I have seen these two selectively remove posts that were factual & pointed, but it is OK for them to make comments that are negative or self serving but not others, huh??? I can't wait for the pile of sh!7 to come back on me for these comnments, but they are true. By the way, the posts that were either removed or editied were personal opinion as well, but they were still wiped out or distilled to remove the true meaning. Do as I say, not as i do rules here!

Nice to see the moderators knocking commercial products, as well as soliciting business on these threads. Bet their posts don't get gutted!!!

It's going to be a long wait for the April fishing!!!!

Caught seven eyes today, picked up the seventh one pulling rods & released him. Fish were nice & fat, lots of schools of shad making the catching harder, as we worked for our 2 man limit. Some of the bait schools looked like they belonged on Lake Ontario! Fish were just mouthing the stickbaits today making the hookups harder, employed riggers & dipseys on the bottom. Fished the channel from the Cleveland water tower to the cell tower to the East, 40 to 46' of water. 2.4 mph by GPS. Before sunup hat w/lights, works great in the low light! After sunup hat getting ready for the G-Men to go 4 & 0!!!! Six Eyes in the hole, MMmmmmmm!

Shimano Tekota 600LC, once you use one, especially with the Shimano Talora roller rods, you won't want to use any other. I have been running this combo for the last six years & they have performed perfectly! 1000 feet of 30lb wire fills the reel very nicely (no need for backer either). Good luck!
