Blame it on the cheaters. There were many people without derby tickets catching fish, hanging on to them, then go buy a derby ticket and weigh it in the next day. Thats why there is the cut off. RR -
Nope ,blew up is correct. Bummer!

It depends on how the wind is blowing. If it cranking from the NW or N or S all the FL's are going to be rough and belive me it can get pretty rough. For instance, Cayuga was too rough to fish yesterday. If its from the W or E you are fine. Cayuga has some great fishing right now. fish just like you would LO. dodger and flies, wire dipsys etc. Just down size your spoons. Lakers, browns and LL are hitting pretty good right now. You can get from Oswego to Long Pt launch in about an hour and 15 min. Head south from the launch and fish either side. 85 to 250 fow.

That is an older R & R. Prolly from around 1996. I have a bunch of those. They work great on the FL's. RR

Evans boat is sweet. I haven't fished on it but I've been on it. Does the hockey player come with it? Nice boat. Someone should snatch it up. RR

Well done guys, well done! 2 thumbs up. Now I know some of you couldn't make it due to family obligations, but you better put this one on your calander for next year. We had a blast and excellent fishing. I got lucky as my regular spot was bone dry, so headed over to Kingtown beach to give it a looky see and the big lakers were mixed right in with the salmon and browns. My deep wires were wackin the lakers and the high riggers with sliders fired all day. 3 color core took a few too. We were also weed free there, and I think that made a difference. I will be back to defend the title and as I said at the weigh in, I'll pick up the crew member placks for next year. I will also send a letter to Bass Pro, thanking them for the sponsorship! Well done guys. RR

I'm in and I'm not talking to you guys till 1:00 on sat. RR -
Good one! RR
-
Did a 10 lb laker on sat. Several others in the 7 lb range. Wire wire wire! Can't keep it in the water for the first 2 hours. Yea I had the slam last week too. Thats cool when you can pull it off but the bow was a shorty. I have had a few decent browns too. Nice fish Hermit! Unfortunately I'm going to be on vacation for the next 2 weekends so I won't be out. But I'll have 2 weeks to find em again when I get back. Sawbelly took a 7lb brown on sat evening. Hermit I'll tell you where I'm fishing if you tell me where you are fishing! Zeke knows where I am. I don't venture far from my spot. RR

Are we going with the first 1 man limit or can we cull out the smaller ones as we fish. If its the first 1 man limit, I'll be done fishing by 6:15. You guys are in serious trouble. I am dialed in. RR

Flys on Finger Lakes ?
rustyrat replied to Team Bling Sportfishing's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I use the full size 8 inch dodgers. I use the pro trols and spin Dr's too. I use the 4 inchers up high for the LL's. wire dipsy set on 3 out 240 to 280 over 80 to 100 ft of water. Close to bottom. Its slammin. White on white is good but I use white or Trash can with an irredescent fly, it kind of looks purpleish in the water. Once the thermo sets up around 60 to 70 ft, then I fish the deep water 250 to 350. Wires out 260 to 300. Thats when it gets really good. I'm fishing Cayuga. RR -
Flys on Finger Lakes ?
rustyrat replied to Team Bling Sportfishing's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
My best laker rig is the wire dipsy with a flasher and fly. Just like usin em for kings. 18 to 22 in leader from the flasher to the fly and about a 9 ft leader from the dipsy. 2.7 is a good speed. I usually run my riggers up higher for trout and salmon but with small spoons or 4 inch dodgers and peanut flies. Thats what I am runnig right now and I'm spankin em! RR -
I am having pretty good luck on the lakers for the last couple of trips. I had the slam yesterday, Bow, browns, LL and lakers. However, All my lakers are coming off the wire dipsy's. I can't get one to go off the riggers. So I have gone to a shallow (30 ft down with sliders) LL, trout program on the riggers and a deep flasher/fly rigs off the wire for the lakers. (240 to 260 wire) Rod were popin all morning yesterday. Fishing 80 to 100 fow. RR

Checked with Long Point park and we cannot reserve any area. But they said there should be plenty of room. BTW I'm gettin dialed in! You guys are in trouble especially since spoonfed said he is gonna fish with me. RR
-
Didn't realize you can cull now. Thanks for clearing that up for me. RR

Here is the situation for you guys who don't get it: Its a lot easier to to get a 6 fish silver limit than a 9 fish limit. There will be a lot of AM boats with limits early. So now it boils down to the one boat that can get the 1 laker to put them on top. Remember its your first legal limit so if you run into a bunch of coho's and 4 rods pop with 4, 3lb cohos you are screwed. At least before you could make up for it with 5 more kings. I don't like the new rules either. With a 9 fish limit, it seperated the the pretenders from the big boys. (I have been on both sides of that! ) RR

Lake has come down about 6 in since fri. Debris is starting to clear but there is still junk in the water. Lake still need to come down at least another foot. But, the laker fishing was decent this weekend. I didn't hear any reports of salmon or browns but I know there were guys fishin em. RR
-
5 mph speed limit now in force. Lake still coming up. Crap everywhere. Go somewhere else to fish unless you like to catch sticks and timber. I hear its the same on Owasco. Thank God I'm going to the Bar next week. RR

I talked to the hydrologist in charge yesterday. He can only let out so much or he said the homes on the canal would be totally lost. Its allready over flood stage on the canal. He expected Cayuga to crest yesterday afternoon but we got a lot of rain last night from the storm, so I'm thinking its still going to come up more today. The canal drains seneca and cayuga. Thats a lot of water to put into 1 canal. The lake homes are fine on my road but the docks and beach areas are gettin hammered. Lucky for me I have a very high dock, so I'm ok there so far. There are a lot of docks submerged and a few almost under. Its been several (7) years since I have seen the lake this high. RR
