  1. Thanks for the info! Kept the boat in yet, so if Mother Nature cooperates were going to go for fun this weekend.
  2. Friend of mine had 4 on saturday, but worked hard for them. I did hear today a report from a guy that said he did good last week flatlining deepdivers. Fish we've seen have been deep, though.
  3. I can't speak to Barcelona, but I can tell you Dunkirk was awful Saturday and Sunday. I did hear a report that 1 guy had 5 on Monday, west of Van Buren in 70 fow....but that's all I've got. We had fish on the screen, sunday better than saturday, and the down temp came back too....but no biters.....
  4. Thanks. Got emailed a number for Mike, so I'll try him; and also Harbor Sports. John
  5. Still looking around...... someone must still have parts somewhere..... John
  6. Capt. Larry: Top 20 ft? Wow, we were fishing much deeper out of Dunkirk. What were you pulling those harnesses on? John
  7. Yeah, that's a possibility. Big Jon said to use a rat-tail file and try to make the swivel bigger. May end of doing that, but since the original is still ok for now, I'm still on the hunt for the Fishlander part. Thanks for the reply, though. John
  8. Trap Jaw: You make a good point! One of the reasons I got the outboard was so I could repower if I ever needed to.....but an i/o would have been a lot less!
  9. Shorthanded: 6 fish was good! That was the most I heard today. We got 5 in today, and missed about the same. Also a laker, and a carload of sheepshead, including one that had to push 10lbs. 80 fow; 175 on the slides with a ring (harness); 70 ft rig (Super Slims) and of 5 color with 3 oz and a gold/black Kaboom. John
  10. Good. Running in the morning, weather permitting. I'll post sat. night. John
  11. Shorthanded: Can't offer too much other than to say its been pretty tough the last few days near Dunkirk. Lots of deep fish, very few takers, from what I'm told. Took a shot with another local capt. last night at some inside structure that we normally fish in late June yesterday just to see if there was anybody home. Nope. John
  12. I had a 1990 70 hp Evinrude that I ran for 10 years. The only thing I ever did to it was change the water pump impeller. I'm not an idiot, and I know things eventually need repair. My issue was that it had everything done the way it was supposed to be done, service, etc. and than out of the blue it goes down. Ok, that happens. But then you do the research and find out that its been a problem, so the assumption would be that they would at least try to make it right, even if was to only offer a discount on a new engine. Instead, it was a basic blowoff. When a new one is $20k, you'd think there would be a least something they could do.
  13. I have a Fishlander rigger that I need a new swivel for on the boom for the end pulley. I know Big Jon parts work on these riggers, and in fact, got a Big Jon swivel from Captains Cove when I was at the Oak 2 weeks ago. Apparently, however, the Fishlander boom and swivel are fractionally bigger than Big Jon's (which I verified with Big Jon today). Thus the Big Jon swivel does not freely rotate on the boom. Pulley side is fine. So, my choice is to find a Fishlander swivel, or modify the Big Jon swivel, by using a rat tail file. Really would prefer the Fishlander part. SO, somewhere out there, there must be someone that has parts left. If anyone knows of any place that might have parts, I'd appreciate getting that name. John
  14. The mechanic that had done the annual service said "well, you made it longer than most do". Evinrude didn't want any part of me telling them about all the posts on the internet. Thank god I had bought the extended warranty. They ended up buying me out because they didn't want me to fix it, then have to do it again in 6 months. They told me that the 2000-2005 Evinrude was there most frequent claim. ** Yamaha on there now.
  15. Had a 2005 225 2 stroke evinrude (pre-ETEC). Came new with the boat as a leftover; put in service in 2007. Always maintained at an Evinrude dealer, ran all the right oil, fuel conditioners, etc. and did exactly what the dealer told me to do. 550hrs. Engine blew earlier this month while running down the lake. Mechanic said it looked like you threw a hand grenade inside the powerhead. Did my due diligence on the internet, and found that this particular series is known for this. Called Evinrude to complain, and got the standard company blah, blah, blah. Sorry for your troubles, but there's nothing we can do. No we don't offer any repair incentives. No, we don't have any discounts for you if you buy an ETEC. Pointed out the internet stuff and they said that, "only unhappy people post, and we have many other motors that are still running.". Didn't budge. Thank you for nothing. ** Moved on to another 225, but you can bet it was not an Evinrude. If you have the chance to ever buy one, don't.
  16. I second that! Thought he did a great job for me.
  17. Jer: For what its worth, Saturday was pretty slow from the reports I got. Seemed to pick up a bit in the pm, not unusual for a full moon.... John

    Erie- Wd's?

Enjoy the cape! Working through an engine issue right now....story later....then we head to the Oak for a few days. Should be back in the slip in Dunkirk by the 26th. When the wind has allowed (lately) we've been getting some fish..... John

    Erie- Wd's?

Thanks Ray! Haven't heard from you....you been down this way at all?
  20. Jakey: September really becomes weather dependent out of Dunkirk in the fall. About 3 season ago, we had pretty good walleye right up until we pulled the boat in early October. Other years (last year) it's died quick once you cross Labor Day. Most of the captain's here pretty much don't take trips much beyond September 15. If you want to consider it, feel free to shoot me an email a few days ahead of the date you might be coming and I'll let you know how its been. John

    Erie- Wd's?

WD's are the smallest size spoon from Dreamweaver. They are comparable to the scorpions from Stinger, size wise.

    ERIE

Fished the 3 day con club tournament. We had fish from just west of Dunkirk to 4-5 miles east. 70-80 fow. Lots of good screens. 10 color no weight was fair; slide divers at 140-165 with a ring with chattersticks; and WD's off the 50-65 rigs. John
  23. My bad for not posting more. Seems as though July and now August is flying by..... Anyway....Dunkirk report.... Most of the guys that I know have been fishing west of Van Buren for the last few weeks. Anywhere from 55-90 fow has been good, depending on the day and what you fish. Ten Color has been good with either copper backed harnesses, or the 5" chatterstick I like on there. Slides at 135-150 with a ring on 2; riggers set at 55 ft. Fish have been deep lately. I prefer to go without worms, if possible, so for us the 3" perch chatters have been good, and WD spoons off the rigs. From the worm guys, I hear copper/orange has been the best. We've got the 3 day Con Club tournament this weekend (100 boats) so I should be able to update the information either here, or via my blog at www.timestwocharters.com. Good fishing! John
  24. Years ago I had an 18' starcraft cc. Very wet and cold boat, but I didn't have all the enclosures. Have a 23' Seaswirl walkaround now, love it! Still can walkaround to dock, anchor, etc, but have the hard top/vinyl enclosure. John
  25. I think we need a nice SW blow (maybe this weekend from the looks of it) then some nice weather. She'll come around...just a couple weeks off.... I hear Conneaut and west of Erie has been coming on.....
