  1. Ray: Glad to hear your mom's doing okay. My family's thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. John
  2. We've been going to French River on and off since 1980; and continously since the mid 90's. For us, we fish mostly pike, as we get all the walleye we need here on Erie. www.frenchriverlodge.com Only about 5 hrs from Buffalo.
  3. Ray... We need to figure out how to harness the wind so we can shut if off for a couple of weeks in late June to get the water warm! Hopefully it will be a lot more consistent than it was this year.... John
  4. To all LOU members.... Happy New Year! I hope you all have a great 2010!!! John
  5. I own a 2301 Striper. Love it. Second the suggestion of Jack...that site was HUGE help to me when I was rigging.... John
  6. Would this be exclusive to LO or would it be NY wide? John
  7. Yeah, I have the MP3 plug in...looks like I'm going to stick with that. So I guess that means there is a new fly rod/reel in my future instead! John
  8. Starting to think of what my xmas present to myself should be, and got to thinking about satelite radio for the boat. I have zero experience or knowledge of satelite radio. So, does anyone have it on your boat, do you like it, pro's and con's? Thanks.... John
  9. Great News YT! I lost my father years ago now to lung cancer, and two father's of long-time fishing crew in the last two years. All meant the world to me. I really glad your father is showing signs of improvement.....and he's got enough time now until it gets warm again to recover and be ready to fish! The best wishes of the Dunkirk crew are with your dad, you and your family! John
  10. Chad.. We've been whacking the perch for the better part of 6 weeks nows. Tons of action, which has kept my son pretty happy! Actually had a fish fry tonight with relatives in for T-day! John
  11. Continue to do really well for perch over at Long Point on Chautauqua Lake. My first mate and I took the kids over Wednesday, and literally landed 250 fish in the afternoon. We ended up with about 30 nice ones. Back over today...lots more small ones, but between 3 of us, I'd say we landed 150 fish. We only kept 18 today. John
  12. YT: I hope everything works out for your father. Our thoughts are with you and your family. John
  13. My son loves perch....but I'm thinking...then I have to clean them!! Weather permitting, I think we'll get back over there this weekend; and the I'm off Tuesday for my annual tributary roam with my pal Capt. Bud (Alibi). Hopefully that takes me back to the Black North for lunch!! John
  14. L & M: I noticed your reply referenced Parks and Recreation....so I looked on their site....here is the regulation they referred me to: Navigation Law Updates Life Jacket Wear Requirements Beginning November 1, 2009, Section 40, Subdivision 1 of the Navigation Law shall be amended by adding new paragraph (e), which reads as follows: No owner or operator of a pleasure vessel less than twenty-one feet, including rowboats, canoes, and kayaks shall permit its operation, between November first and May first, unless each person on board such vessel is wearing a securely fastened United States Coast Guard approved wearable personal flotation device of an appropriate size when such vessel is underway. Failure to wear a lifejacket on such vessels will be considered a violation under Section 73-c if the Navigation Law and is punishable by a fine of not less than $25 nor more than $100, applicable to either the operator and/or the owner of the vessel. *** So I called them, specifically to clarify the "underway". They said while the vessel is at anchor you do not need to keep the PFD on (except as it applies to children). Also, it does apply to Lake's Erie and Ontario, also as I suspected it did. Thanks for the replys. Guess I have my answers. John
  15. Thanks for the post. I've found a number of articles like this, but can't seem to find the actual change in regulations searching the web. Presumbably this is for all NY waters, but the discussion yesterday with my brother was whether it was inland lakes only, or whether it included Erie and Ontario. He has a boat under 21' and does get out in between Nov. 1 and May 1. John
  16. Does anyone have a link for the new PFD regulations for after 11/1? I know there was some discussion on here late summer..... John
  17. Headed over to Long Point on Chautauqua Lake today with my son and my brother looking to do some perch fishing. There were 3-4 people fishing off the docks as we launched, and saw them land a couple as we got ready. Always a good sign! From about 11-2, we landed about 130 perch. 50% probably were less than 8 inches, but we did end up with some in the 10-11 inch range. My son even landed 4 at the dock as we pulled boat out. Panfish worms, set 3-4 feet below the float in 10-15 fow. John
  18. Chautauqua. Thanks. John
  19. Does anyone know how late into the fall the ramp is open at Long Point?
  20. Chris...my son's actually really into fishing, and is pretty good about taking care of his stuff. Is youth, a one size fits all kind of thing, or are there different sizes in youth too? shoe size? I'd like to get him something, so I'm interested. Thanks. John
  21. Well, my son got out on one of the small local tributaries yesterday with a friend of mine, and was able to land 2 steelhead from the shoreline. Now of course, he wants waders! SO I got to thinking.....there must be others that have young children that have been on the tribs, so before I go out an buy a set of waders he will out grow next week (he's 9 next month); I thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has a set of outgrown waders? Too bad we couldn't set up some kind of exchange like the youth hockey leagues do.... John
  22. I'm not necessarily the biggest fan of catching and cleaning them...but when you have a little guy that likes the action and eating em....oh well...guess you have to! John
  23. Thanks Bill. Never had a boat that had been painted that long...was curious! John
  24. Well, big boat has been put to bed for the winter, so when my brother rented a cottage for the weekend on Chautauqua Lake, I decided to take my son, and the mirrocraft and head over. We did 30 perch in a couple of hours Saturday afternoon; and followed that up with 100 this morning. No huge jacks, but a lot in the 10-11 inch range. We kept some, but let most go back to grow for another time. Fished tight to shore, on the south side of Long Point. Worms. John
