Wilson Harbor Salmon Slam 2008 Thank you
Time Out replied to wilsonboatyard's topic in Open Lake Discussion
It was a great time and would also like to thank the community of Wilson and all involved with running such a great event. Ray, party started at 7. You missed some great food. Jeff Cold Water Affair -
Keeping the little guys is an obvious concern, but the field was very tight this year and that helped level the playing field. I would like to release these fish on good days, but on the bad ones they go in the cooler during the tourneys anyways. A larger min. size for fish may be the answer if there are that many concerns?. Our team had a great time this year, loved not having to fish for those lakers Jeff Cold Water Affair

Guys, As a member of the Cold Water Affair team, we were on of the teams that suggested these new rules for the tournament. There was a get together of sorts after the Sodus Tournament that all am teams could attend. About ten teams of all ability showed up following weigh in on Saturday. We were not looking to change all the rules, only modify for concerns that some of the teams were having. The lake trout rule was a hot on because of the amount of salmon that were being caught while fishing for the lake trout. Releasing salmon that have been brought up from the depths is no easy task after they have been fighting in 75 degree water. If you were at Oswego last year you will know what I mean. This tournament is about having great time fishing and getting to know fellow fisherman. If you are fishing these to make money, you are in it for the wrong reason. If you think that certain teams should move to pro because they win to much, make it your goal to beat them. As far as making teams move up once they win, our team has finished everywhere from 6th to 23rd since our win at Niagra in 06'. We need to stop having such personal conflict with these rules and just fish the tournaments to the best of your abilities. If there are concerns regarding the tournament, people should contact the tournament directly and not criticise on the net. Its only going to hurt the tournament in the furtue. So with that said, be sure to thank Bill, Mike, Dave, Chris, Bob, Paul, Greg and eveyone else that has a hand in these tournaments. They keep it alive for us to enjoy. Thanks Jeff Cold Water Affair Ps. If there was something that I said that makes you mad, PM me

You can launch at the state park on the west side of wilson. On the water there aren't alot of land marks for wilson. Remember that you have to be west of the smoke stacks about 9 miles and west of the water tower(olcott) about 5. There is a small pier which you should see from about 2 miles. If its a nice day just look for all the blow boats wich are usually out in front of the chanel. I may be missing something but its been a year. Jeff

Glenn, Did you get the ones that came in the mail? Try giving Bill Hilts a call and Im sure he can get you one. Jeff Cold Water

Will do. Thanks for the heads-up Mark.

Mark, The inpeller gasket was torn on both sides where the water flows over it. The new kit has a gasket without the center piece that had ripped. Everything looks good so Ill have to give it a water run soon. The water in the oil was caused by fishing line and a ballon sting that had worked its way under the prop seals. Jeff

Mark, Ill let you konw Thursday.

Sodus ?
Time Out replied to Hookedup's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I hear the water out of sodus is clear and cold. They have been doing Browns early with the bite drastically slowing with the sun angle increasing. From about Pultneyville west had good color with the Genny plume skirting the shore but may have changed with the wind. Good luck where ever you go. Jeff -
Thanks guys, Thats the conclusion Im coming to after some talking and a little research on how those cooling systems work at the thermostat. The two sides being different temps threw me for a loop, but I guess thats nothing to wory about. Jeff

Freeman, The observer that you bring will be placed on another teams boat and you will get their observer. Jeff

I was out last night trolling and temp got up to about 220-230 wich is very hot for my boat at trolling speed. Picked up all the gear and went back to the launch. As soon as I got it up to 1200-1500 rpm temp went back down to 160, then back up at idle. We pulled the lower unit when we got back home and the impeller looks like new. I picked up a new one anyways along with a new thermostat today but am looking for any ideas that I may have missed. I didnt forget about the water pump. Heres another one. When the temp was hot the starboard side exhaust was alot hotter than the port. Oh yeah, Its a 87' chevy 350 w/ a merc alpha 1 outdrive. thanks in advance for any info Jeff

March 18th Brownie Madness
Time Out replied to woody 184's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Stinger Honeybee. -
It wont be long now. Spring browns, Niagra kings, pro-ams, and the loc. It might look something like this.

Id install gimbal mount rod holders in the boat and then use those for the downriggers with the mount. Will look like its from the factory so no need to wory about the holes that you will have to drill. If you dont want to drill for those, find some big c clamps and clamp the 2x6 to the sides. Never seen it done but it should work.

Im gonna need to "borrow" the tall one in the back.

Fished with Woody 184 and another buddie today and we did 14 browns. Fished noon to 3. Hit the same things as the other day. Most fish were in the 3-5lb range with one probably around 7. Maybe he can post some pics. It was a great day and I didnt forget anything today. Did have another gull go after a stick although he missed. The browns are eating the gobies too. -
That is similar to the oil shale in Colorado. They have estimated there to be aroung 100yrs of oil locked up in the rock. The problem is getting the oil extracted economically. Many believe they are waiting until more of a world shortage occurs, then we will be the new Saudi Arabia of the world. Another problem they have is that they have is they don't know what other countries actually have for oil as that is a gaurded secret of that county producing the oil. They could say 20 yrs but it could be 5yrs.

It could be worse..... (AP) Fisheries managers have canceled the early season of ocean fishing for chinook salmon off the coast of Oregon and Northern California because of a collapse of stocks in California rivers. The managers are also considering whether to close most of the Pacific salmon fishery. The best West Coast salmon fishermen can hope for is a "bare bones" sport and commercial fishing season this year, but the outlook remains bleak, officials say. Federal fisheries managers meeting this week in Sacramento, Calif., canceled early spring salmon fishing in the Pacific off Northern California and Oregon to protect salmon that remain alive in the ocean. On Friday, the Pacific Fishery Management Council is expected to choose three management options for the rest of the season, and will set final regulations when they meet in Seattle in April. One possibility is shutting down the salmon fishery from the northern tip of Oregon south to the Mexican border _ something fishermen are hoping to avoid. Washington may see some fishing, but even if fishing is allowed, many fishermen expect that catches will be poor. "We had a pretty good idea they were going to cut it back," said Mark Newell, a fisherman from Newport, Ore., and a member of the Oregon Salmon Commission. "We are trying to craft a very bare bones season which would give California some sport fishery, a very limited amount of commercial troll, and Oregon a somewhat limited sport fishery and very limited troll in Oregon also," he said. In angling, trolling is the practice of fishing by trailing a baited line behind a slow-moving boat. California commercial trollers traditionally can't start fishing until May 1, but sport charters have been allowed to fish out of Fort Bragg, Calif., since the middle of February. They were shut down, along with Oregon commercial trollers set to begin fishing Saturday in a season authorized last year to run through April. Some marine scientists say the salmon declines can be attributed in part to unusual weather patterns that have disrupted the marine food chain along the Pacific Coast in recent years. But many fishermen believe the main culprit behind the Sacramento River's collapse is increased pumping of freshwater from the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta to farmers and water districts in the Central Valley and Southern California.
