  1. The fishing can be quite good out there mid to late summer if you are willing to make the run.
  2. A good friend gave me a 9.9 Merc four stroke to mount up on our boat. We have a 1990 Trophy hardtop 4.3 io Alpha One outdrive. Where to mount this beast and best method to steer with are points that we would like to get input from all of you. Any other install tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Bruce
  3. You had a better day than we did! Glad to hear it! Took a newbie out today. Did not get out until 1 as he was helping get his house ready for a wedding shower for his daughter ( one of the best people I know, by the way!). Had one knock of and that was it. What little bait we saw was on the bottom in front of Russel. (pulled and motored over there after 3 hours fishless in front of the bay.) Fished 135-200. should have stayed inside or gone deeper I suppose in hindsight. Great day on the water though!
  4. good drop in surface tewmp today at 210 fow.... not many fish. did one brown in shallow, steel and a king out there and lost a pig out there as well. orange spoons on free slider on 50 riggers.
  5. We use flouro leaders on all our rods. About 5' secured to the main line with a double overhand (surgeons) knot. The only exception is we use a barrel swivel on rods we run stickbaits off the boards with. We used to by the actual leader material for abrasion resistance but have found the regular line works almost as well. We will use leader material when not fishing Ontario.... ie saltwater flats fishing etc.
  6. Fished this am with my friend Jeff Tallon. Got set up off the river in 120fow about 7:30. Just setting the fourth rod and the first goes off. Jeff grabs it and starts it coming in. Center rod fires and I grab that. Both fish, small kings, at the back of the boat and the wire dipsy (out 60@ 2.5) white dodger and fly starts singing. Told Jeff to grab it as it was next to him and I released the to salmon. Jeff brought in 12-8 steelie. The next 2.5 hours were very steady with a few kings and many steelhead. Ticket was 25-30 back and down with free sliders taking 3/4 of the fish. Left at 10:30 as Jeff had to go haul firewood. It was hard not to go back out but ended up taking the kayaks down to Hemlock for a spin. Spoons were Nolife mag, glowfrog NK28, and orange Stingers. Ended up losing no fish - 5 kings and 9 or ten steelies. Did release a steel just shy of 12# as stupid me thought they needed to be 12# minimum. Oh well someone else may enjoy catching him! [/img]
  7. No problem Mark! You know you are welcome to anything on the boat. I just wonder what you will need it for as I towed your boat out to the 26 bar and sank it last night!!!!
  8. Finally got the boat in the water with my freind Todd's help tonight. Saw my neighbor at the dock getting his boat ready for tommorow... he had these big 4 or 5 willow leaf on wire looking things he was rigging up... said his Uncle Bill was fishing with him this weekend and that was what they always use.... best of luk to all both in and not in the derby! Bruce aka Throbbin Rod
