  1. Recently moved my home port to Port Bay. Learning the area. Seems to have been a bit slow for me the last couple weekends. Started today in 130. Took a teenage king down 70 over150. Worked (rode) out to 320 marking few fish a little bit of bait here and there nothing to really work at. Went back into 100 and did three browns on Carmel dolphin and orange crush on 73 rigger both fixed slider up 10... Back in to mow the lawn and maybe do some bass. Saw some guys doing smamouth? In about 30-40. May have to give that a try. Have not done them since the glory days Shipbuilders to Hedges dragging stick baits . Looking forward to getting my Trophy up here this week maybe. Been using my 14.5 Smokercraft. Bruce Aka. Throbbin' Rod

  3. Nice product ! Quick shipping ! A very good value if you are in the market.
  4. Thanks. I know it is a late start at 9 but we went and the young lady got her first salmon - small but very managable for her first time lake fishing. She said as we were coming in - "I think I am available next Sunday and maybe Saturday... " Only had about an hour and a half to fish. Opted for the between waters and probably should have stayed in close or run out to 400+ but was not sure how she would fair on the water. Guess her statement would indicate - just fine ! Bruce
  5. Hey all, Taking my neighbors 6 year old daughter and 9 year old son out tomorrow out of IBay for a couple hours before their baseball. Wondering if there are any browns in close or what the best shot is to get the girl her first Lake O fish given it sounds like things are a bit slow the last couple days from reports.. Only have a couple hours and won't be on the water until 9. Your help would be appreciated Thanks, Bruce
  6. oops... just put my glasses on ... the unit s a 798ci hd It is already set to 200hz. Is there a way to turn on/off the down imaging that I am not seeing in the menus? Bruce
  7. Hi all, Purchased one of these to put on my 14.5 Smokercraft boat last year. Finally got to try it the other day on Lake Ontario. I have always in the past used Raymarine stuff but bought this on a recommendation. I can mark bait but if it is marking fish it is nothing like my old units. I see a small mark, no arch, hard to say the marks are even fish based on what my Ray units showed. No fish following in riggers etc. Starting to think I should hve stuck with Ray or considered a Furuno... Any thoughts? Wrong unit for lake fishing ? Need to switch settings? If so suggested settings ? Will be used primarily for trout and salmon fishing. Thanks in advance, Bruce
  8. Thanks for the recipe! Gave about 80 frozen fillets to some of the folks that worked with me up atWilmot Cancer Center plus a buch to others! Should have kept a beter eye on my "stock"! May have a few left somewhere in the frezzer.... Bruce
  9. Nice December catch! I've always done them on the stove.... What is your oven method and recipe if I may ask? Be a while before I can get out to get some more due to being told not to fish for three months because of recent cancer treatment and nuked immune system. Bruce
  10. Great fish of a lifetime! Congratulations!
  11. Fished from 9- 12:15 with friend Brian G.. Water was pretty much 35- 36 east of the bay. We did not get to Shipbuilders and decided to try west of the outlet as we had not had a nibble. Brian hooked first brown just east of Durand in about 4 FOW. Trolled a bit further west and made the turn back east and hooked into a better fish again in about 3 FOW. Lost that one as I got a bit greedy on the retrieve. Never ventured past 8 FOW and perhaps should have. Both fish took black/gold rapalas. Pulled and went out to se what it was we had seen floating off the river. Turned out to be two barges that as best we could tell by sight and smell they were dumping some nasty sh.t dredged up from somewhere. Thought about calling DEC to be sure it was legal because it smelled so bad!! Nice to get on the water and despite slow fishing, no skunk. Bruce
  12. My friend Bill L. posted this on Facebook... be fun to have been there! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=211428338997487&set=vb.103395616467427&type=2&theater
  13. Any update on water level in the lake - launches? Thanks in advance.
  14. Got out for an afternoon trip with Patty. Plan was to troll to Vine Valley and then try for some perch. We stuck to the plan and got skunked on the way up. Did a dozen or so perch in 10-12 fow. There were plenty there as y9u could see them around the minnow tipped jigs but not very hungry I guess. Trolled half way back to the Woodville launch and picked up a nice rainbow on a ten color towing a mountain dew spin doctor tailed by a gator fly. Nice day on the water. As a heads up the launch is pretty short.... thank to the two gentleman that helped me get the boat off the trailer and into the water!
  15. Rich, is that Mr. Nerwin? Great fish any year but this year in particular! Bruce

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Throbbin Rod (jr) ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):6-25,26 Time on Water:7 hours Sat 3 hours Sunday Weather/Temp:sunny/80's Wind Speed/Direction:south wind with an onshore lake breeze Waves: <1' Surface Temp: 72 Location:Off Ibay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 20+ Total Boated:17 Species Breakdown:Browns with 1 king and one laker Hot Lure: Stinger Carmel Dolphin and Stinger Mixed Veggie Trolling Speed: 2-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 65-85 Lure Depth: 55-75 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished Saturday with Patty and I can honestly say I have never caught so many big browns. We did not get any for the derby but half of them were over 10#.Only one small one in the bunch. Called a friend in to get in on it and he boated one 15.8#. Three guys with him - not in the derby-oops! Sunday went out for a few hours with Patty and my sister from Chicago. Good brown bit again - but not quite as good. Same program was working. Best water was in front of bay to just east both days. My sister had a ball. Had a brown today hit leadcore on a Church board and when it hit the backer broke at the tip!!! Circled around to recover the board and low and behold line was still attached... tied back to rod and reeled in a 4# brown. Most fish both days were on cheaters fixed about 5-7 up. Good two days on the water. Bruce
  17. My dad recently passed away and a piece of property he had in the Southern Tier area has become something my mom has to deal with. It is 11 acres of wooded hillside. She has thought of selling it and I suggested she might look into hunting leases. This is something neither she or I are knowledgeable on and I suggested that some of you might know ins and outs of them. It may be that this would be a way for her to keep the land that has sentimental value as we we used to have family outings there in my youth. Any information on how these leases work, how they get set up and approximate financials involved would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bruce
  18. Yamaha used to have some problems with carbon and carb problems as well. They make a fuel additive that I was told to use by Fred Seager at Seagar Marine when I bought my boat and did not. Well it started to have your symptoms and was unable to even maintain trolling speed. I bought the additive and after one tank problem solved and ran like new. I now keep it in the tank at all times. I get it at Ballentyne. Bruce

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Throbbin Rod Jr ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):3-16 Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 01 Surface Temp: 42-44.5 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9 Total Boated:5 Species Breakdown:Browns Hot Lure: sticks Trolling Speed: 2-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 4-20 Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Bit of a struggle to get fish today. Launched at the bay and headed east. Water got clearer as we headed east. Got to Shipbuilders and water was gin clear. Took one fish in 15 FOW on Stinger mag Frog with white cup. Headed west and took one fish between Shipbuilders and the river. Went back to Ibay piers and worked the water just west of the jetty and found a few fish. That spot has been good the last two trips. Fred lost a dandy brown at the side of the boat to a swivel getting destroyed. Cabellas swivel that I have had great luck with on up to 38 pound kings.... must have been opened and closed too often! Foggy on and off all day. My apologies to the two guys I got behind while setting up... did not see your boat hugging the shore. Bruce
  20. Good to see you out early for browns Mike! Headed out in 20 minutes or so..... Bruce
  21. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Throbbin Rod Jr ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):3-2-12 Time on Water:2 1/2 on the lake and the rest of the afternoon on the bay Weather/Temp:partly cloudy 40-45 Wind Speed/Direction:SE Waves: 0 Surface Temp: 36.5- 37 Location:Outlet to just past Shipbuilders LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 11 Total Boated:7 Species Breakdown:6 Browns 1 Atlantic Hot Lure: Chartruese or Black and gold Rapalas Trolling Speed: 2-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 3-25 Lure Depth: top 5 or so ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Took advantage of slow time of year at the shop and went out for some browns and perch with Fred Vojt. Got on the water just past 10AM... Scooted under outlet bridge (nice to have a small boat too..) and set out 2 sticks off the starboard board and 2 sticks on Yellowbirds to port headed east. Was just setting out second bird and we were into a very "football brown". Set it back out and tried to set a couple spoons on the riggers... not going to happen for an hour or so. Steady pick and a few misses kept us busy. Have to say not a fan of the red Yellowbird releases... too finicky to adjust. Spoons were dead but clean. Two big browns and a small one released and kept 4 eaters - 2 for Fred and 2 to freeze and give to my son at college. 12 FOW seemed to be best for us. At about 1 we headed into the bay for some perch. Slow bite but managed maybe a dozen or so keepers. All in all it was nice to be on the water at the beginning of March.
