  1. I have been running the Cannon Mag 10 STX riggers for 2 years with no issues. I fish a lot of lake trout and abuse my riggers. My last set of Cannons were 12 years old and were great.

    Cranberry

We see it way too often!
  3. Try his email. That's how I got a hold of him.
  4. Do some research on Atlantics in the Great Lakes and you will see it is a failure. The Canadians stock 600,000 a year and get returns of adults that are less than 50 fish. NO THANKS! As long as there are alewives, atlantics will not do well. The Atlantics are impacted by thiamine deficiency way more than Kings, and Coho.

I have heard Braddocks and the ponds are producing good numbers Dave. Good luck!
  6. If you need a mechanic, call Tom Barbera Pro Marina Services at East Fork Marina on Sandy Creek. He does great work! He has done a ton of work over the years on my boat and He has been great.
  7. Kingfisher06, Stick to the topic and stop jumping on people that disagree with you. People are entitled to their opinions. Allowing commercial fishing should be done on certain waters only and should be better regulated to keep the fishery going. The East end perch fishery seems healthy but the Central / West end fishery is not what it was 10 years ago. The finger lakes are big lakes but too much pressure may destroy a great fishery. We need to preserve what we have.
  8. Call Tom Barbera like stated above.
  9. This winter, the lake temp was way warmer than the last two. The intake temp at my work did not go below 37 degrees. The last two winters, it was 34 degrees by mid January and stayed there all winter. We are currently sitting at 41 degrees. We did not see 41 degrees until early / mid April last year. Hopefully this will help things.
  10. PM the runner up from the WHI sound off!
  11. I often wonder if the internet has caused more damage to fisheries than commercial fishing....... I can remember ice fishing lakers on Canadice Lake on a weekday with no one around. Man has that changed! Good reports on the internet have sent me driving to new lakes looking for the hot bite. There is not much of a learning curve anymore. People can read up, go to the lake and pound the fish.
  12. I run two rods with cowbells and spin n glows and that is it. For years, I used to try jamming a third rigger down and that seemed to shut the bite down some. There are four keys to laker fishing. 1. Speed 2. Direction of troll 3. keeping the riggers as close to the bottom as possible 4. No down time. When I fish lakers, I commit 100% to laker fishing. It is too hard to run king stuff at the speeds I troll for lakers. It does work but I rarely do it. I go with the less is more thought process.
  13. If cowbells are fished properly, you will not need a thumper. The riggers are way more efficient and will get the job done. I run two riggers and that is it when I lake trout fish. Most days, that is too much work. Occasionally I run an extra rigger high for bonus kings, browns and steelhead. That is only if the laker fishing is on the slower side.
  14. Not even close Les, I use a noose. They just hang themselves!
  15. They do work but I find when fishing lakers, 2 riggers is too much at times and the thumper gets in the way!
  16. The bass creel should not be five period. With the population this low, it does not make sense to allow man to keep five when other predators are knocking them down even lower. Protect what we have today or we will have nothing tomorrow.
  17. Agreed but it allows the population to be knocked down even further. Sportfishing or not, something has to be done to bring back the smallmouth fishery. The DEC needs to make changes before it's too late. In the 90's, we used to have a ball smallmouth fishing off of Hedges. Now you can fish everyday in the season and catch fewer than we used to catch in one day!
  18. I field tested the UV Hammerheads last summer. Sunny days they excel.
  19. Thanks for updating Andy. You beat me to it! I also went up and visited with Jay the other day. Hopefully they keep their word and let him go home this week / weekend.
  20. It depends on the speed you want to run. Heavy spoons like NK mags and Dream Weaver mags will not have much action at slower speeds. Stinger Mags are way lighter and will have more action at slower speeds.
  21. Tournament bass fishermen keep very few. But there are a lot of guys that keep smallmouth to eat. Back in the 90's on Lake Ontario, lots of smallmouth left on stringers every day of the season.
  22. Slot limits may not be the answer. They put a slot limit on the River we used to vacation on in Canada and it turned it into hammer handle City. The slot makes most people only keep big breeders. The under slot fish were released because they were too small. I am all for reducing the creel limit state wide.
  23. The most mind blowing part of that report is the stats about the smallmouth population. Here we sit at the lowest levels recorded yet the creel limit is the same as it was when the population was very strong. Shouldn't the creel limit be dropped to help bring the population back?
  24. You might get more views of this in the classifieds section.
