  1. I had that issue last season but it was my fault. When the handle meets a dock post it does not hold up well! other than that, mine have been solid for 12 years.
  2. Use a uni to uni knot.
  3. I run the 5/0 90% of the time. The 4/0 work but not as good as the 5/0.
  4. Water is too clear. If the green water sets back up inside, they will be there in better numbers.
  5. It will not fit a mag 10a. It is sold pending payment anyways.
  6. Selling a used Cannon downrigger lock. Here is a link to the lock http://store.cannondownriggers.com/products/390757/Big_Body_Cannon_Lock $20.00 local pick up or $27.00 shipped to the lower 48. I will be in Wilson this Friday and Saturday.
  7. I'm sending you a PM
  8. You are the only person I have ever heard this from.
  9. When I fish lakers, SPEED is the most critical element of the technique. Knowing the temp and depth at the ball is wasted info 99% of the time. I run Hammerheads and find they thump too hard at anything over 1.8 mph (at the ball) and catch rates drop dramatically. Being able to duplicate speed and keep the speed under 1.8 is the number one key to successful laker fishing. Do we really need to know temp depth and speed at every lure? With different conditions at different depths, you will never get the speed right at every rig. Trolling in a S pattern will change speeds and cause a happy medium for every rig. All the extra crap is not needed. We tend to over think the art of trolling as it is.
  10. I run them short on one side and long on the other. Let the fish tell you what kind of mood they are in and then switch it up.
  11. Not really. The ice is mostly gone. Look at the modis imagery from today.
  12. It all depends. I run slide divers for browns inside 20' right off the bat. Once the kings show up, get them out.
  13. If you look at the iceboom camera, there is an awful lot of ice floating by.
  14. Jason and Tricia Franz 615-6504. They are located in Hilton on 259.
  15. I look at it this way, fishing tounries with Pros 1) keeps you on your game, 2) gives you the chance to top some of the best names on the lake. The Sandy Creek Shootout is a tourney that has Captains and Rec anglers battling it out. EVERY year, recs out fish some big name captains. Look at the standings and you will see names like Trout n About, Yankee Troller and Running Rebel. These guys all have done well at the Pro level and have been beat by rec anglers. Boat size is only an advantage in very rough weather IMO. With a solid crew, some knowledge and the right gear, you should be able to compete.
  16. Wow. Look at that, it paid out more than the Winter Classic!
  17. And you can not put out rods for them.
  18. They will be more scattered at this time of the year but the 90 to 120 zone will still hold from the creek to wautoma.
  19. Another vote for saltist. They have the smoothest drag and the high gear ratio makes for an easy retrieve on those long diver trips with no one home.
  20. Overcast warm morning with a west wind and one foot chop on the lake.
  21. You can scrap it when you are done with it. What I have found is some days copper produces and some days leadcore produces. Gotta have both......
  22. Run a spin n glow with a couple beads and a treble behind it. Lakers love them.
  23. In 30 years of fishing Lake Ontario, I have only hung bottom once ( i hooked a cannon ball on the Van Lare intake crib). Most of the laker grounds is flat mud bottom. Thumper rigs work for lakers BUT, they are not nearly as effective, They play the fish too long and they do not fight at all on this rig.
  24. You can't beat a white 3" or 4" Mr Twister Curly tailed grub. Drop it to the bottom and start reeling it back up.
