    Huge alewife in the six kings and steelhead I cut up yesterday. Inside 100’ off Sandy is FULL of bait!

    I have seen a ton of small alewife in fish and we are getting lots of small alewife in the intake at work.

    I heard 160-200 was good today.

    There are days that short leader lengths work well and days that long leader lengths work. It all depends on the mood of the fish. If they are aggressive, a short leader length will not matter as much.

    I mostly run Stingray sized spoons but run mags all season. Divers or coppers are usually rigged up with Mags. Dont be afraid to run them for browns too! A lot of guys are hung up on small spoons for browns but I have taken my two biggest browns in my career on mag spoons.

    We had to drill a hole in my stringer to get it to fit.

    I am sitting at work next to a guy that owns a cottage on in island in the West end of Onieda and he said it was all shad and Carp but the carp had arrow holes in them. The big thing about shad is, they are at the Northern end of their range.

    Don't know but usually there is winter kill with shad. No winter kill and stress from spawning? Who knows. I wouldn't be too worried about a shad die off. If it was a lot of different species, I would worry.

    From the pics I saw, it looked like big gizzard shad.

    They are aluminum and powder coated.

    I'm not sure. I will ask Eric and let you know. I believe they are steel. I know the cup holder is stainless.

    It could have been possible if Lake Erie was colder than Lake Ontario. Without the temp map of Erie from the days prior, we don’t know.

    Its more than likely not the Niagara plume. We had NE winds last weekend. NE winds = upwelling. Upwelling in more pronounced when water temps and densities are further apart. Right now the lake temps is not that warm. In August when the water is in the 70's, it doesn't take much to have an upwelling event.

    Lots of factors involved. Time of year, How bad it upwelled, ect. Cool downs sometimes fish will be in the same area sometimes they move offshore. A full upwelling, head offshore.

    Our intake temp at work is sitting at 47 degrees right now. It was 56 degrees Saturday before the NE wind. Not a full upwelling but temps cooled inside.
