  1. I have one John. If you want to check it out, let me know. Same drag as the Saltist reels and same gear ratio. I fit a 350 copper on it with 300' of 50lb power pro backing.
  2. I use 250lb power pro for my plainer line. The only time I had it break was when a sailboat ran over my plainer board. The releases zip down the line.
  3. No need to see your rigs on the finder. Bang the ball in the mud and then raise it up a foot or two. Seeing your rigs is the last thing you should worry about. Speed, lure selection and having fish where you are fishing are the most important things to worry about.
  4. 5 to 20' back from the ball. Put one long and one short. The longer one will need to stay a touch higher off the bottom.
  5. Battle scares from running the creek?
  6. More than likely. When we get an upwelling in winter we see 39 degree water again until the wind shifts. Just like temp swings in summer but not as drastic.
  7. Congrats john. I hope you won the lottery to pay that fuel bill!
  8. You are correct jimski. What you physics teacher did not tell you is if the surface cools and continues to cool it will push colder water to the bottom. Our temp sensor is on the bottom of the lake in 50' of water. We see 39 degrees for a long time in early winter. Once the up layer of the water column cools, it is gone unless we get strong east winds and upwelling in the winter. I will keep trusting our calibrated equipment.
  9. There was a guy on the ice on Cranberry when I went by yesterday afternoon. CRAZY!
  10. Gained another degree today. 37 degrees at the intake.
  11. There is still ice but lots of water between the ice and shore. Not enough open water to get the perch bite going yet.
  12. Lake Ontario deep water temp has gone up 2 degrees in the past 2 weeks, 3 degrees since march 1st. It bottomed out at 33 degrees in the middle of winter and now it is up to 36.
  13. Also make sure that the numbers are not touching any pin stripe. I got a ticket on Ibay for that.
  14. Hallett Bait and tackle has prices that are hard to beat. I have purchased a ton of stuff over the last year and a half from them and did not find better prices.
  15. In good condition. Does have a weak drag clicker. $90.00 shipped free anywhere in the lower 48 or $80.00 picked up locally in Hilton/Greece. Reel is only three seasons old.
  16. Seagar here also.
  17. I do not think stream fishing should be closed but some sections of tribs should be off limits. If there is natural reproduction of trout or salmon shouldn't it be protected to a certain point? If there is no natural reproduction, let it be open. The DEC spends Millions a year on stocking the Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario and the tribs are a free for all during the spawn. With the new evidence of good natural reproduction in the Salmon River, shouldn't the most fertile areas (ie Beaver Dam Brook) be off limits? Just something to think about.
  18. Pretty interesting that we protect pike, walleye, muskies and bass during the spawn but not trout and salmon. Most lakes with walleye like Conesus for example have no natural reproduction yet the season for walleye is still closed.
  19. I'm on board with the No bananas thing.
  20. I just have a sh*t ton of them in my boat and change out the fly and retie them in the off season.
  21. There are always browns and lake trout to fish for. April 12th will be really early this spring for salmon. Lake Erie still has a ton of ice. Guys are fishing on 24" of ice off of Sturgeon Point. Erie will still have ice for sure.
