  1. The Escape crew eats good when we are out. Kurt usually brings the Venison Slim Jims, Keith brings the Dunkin Doughnuts (if Dunkin Doughnuts is not out of Doughnuts. It did happen last year!) and I bring the Cheezits when I remember them.
  2. Congrats on the slob brown. It is amazing to see the slobs this lake puts out year after year.
  3. I would still come up and fish the Spring LOC. The LOC is a great derby. Do not let a little boat traffic scare you off. Find fish outside the crowd and have fun. Fish more afternoons too. The afternoon bite can be awesome and most guys do not take advantage of it.
  4. Congrats Steve!
  5. Bigt gobies coming back inshore is the reason the lakers showed up. All winter long, we do not see big gobies in the intake at work. Once March / April gets here, they show up again.
  6. If the Big Jon rod holder is still available, I will take it.
  7. I start by bleeding them out in the cooler on the boat. When I get back home, I filet the meat off, filet out the pin bones, then cut the skin off and last remove the red / brown tissue off the back side of the filets. If the filets are going in my freezer, I vaccuum seal them. If they are going to the guys at work, I just throw them in ziplocks and let them freeze them the way they want to.
  8. NIce job on possibly the first king of the 2013 season. It does look like a male that did not spawn. Very cool.
  9. I hope it will come. We still have snow pack in the Southern tier and Tug hill that has not melted. Pray for a wet April and May. I don't mind fishing in the rain if it means the water levels go back to normal.
  10. I have never caught one. I hope they rebound enough for a catch and release season on them. I would love to knock one off the fish bucketlist.
  11. Or you can put it all on the reel, hook it to your mailbox post and walk off the 1000' and reel it back on like you are fighting your mailbox. You get some really interesting looks by cars driving by. I can only imagine what my neighbors say when I'm out there doing this. It goes on super tight and does not waste any time on the water.
  12. A lot of those cookie cutters are more than likely in the tribs still. I know one West side trib is still pumping out a lot of small browns.
  13. Happy Easter everyone!
  14. Here is the 34lb 6 oz Lake Trout caught aboard the Escape last summer. The fish won the Orleans County Derby Grand Prize and First place in the LOC Lake trout division.
  15. Keep some plugs in the boat for all your fittings so you can plug them if this happens. Cheap insurance policy.
  16. Never heard of them. I would not run floating sticks behind them because seagulls might end up on the list of species landed.
  17. Green Hammer and the Green Crinkle Atommiks
  18. The steelhead numbers are in decline for catch rates due to the fact that the salmon fishing has been awesome. The kings were inside 300 fow for most of the past three seasons. With the gas prices, guys are not blowing off shore to chase steelhead because there is no need to. Why burn twice the gas when the kings are right outside the front door?
  19. Looking for 2 used Big Jon multiset rodholders (singles). Let me know.
  20. I agree. The people of the fishing community need to hear the truth. The is a lot of back door meetings and agendas that are not pushed into the public eye for a reason. Darryl gets the facts and is not afraid to let the community know.
  21. I used the vertical blades on Lake Ontario for lake trout when they first came out. I ran them side by side with cowbells and did a test. The cowbells outfished the verticals 5 to 1 in 3 different days of trying them. I sold all my vertical blades to a guy from Lake Champlain a couple years ago. It was nice because you did not fight the cowbells when fighting the fish.
  22. Peanuts and Spin n glows are both good and some days one will out produce others. You can't go wrong with glow peanuts and glow spin n glows. Cowbell color does not matter all that much. I tend to run brighter cowbells in water less than 140 and natural colors (silver , copper, gold) in deeper water.
  23. 150 will work. I thought I had 200 on mine until I looked at the spool this past weekend and it was 150lb.
