Sandy 7/22
GAMBLER replied to GAMBLER's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Thanks! The NW will for sure. The NE and East they are calling for this Thursday will screw things up again. The shootout should be interesting if we get the NE blow Thursday. Hopefully they are wrong. -

I took some fish on the "King of Sting Yesterday". Great spoons and great customer service. Keep up the good work! -
Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Escape ============= TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/22 Time on Water:5am Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: None Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: ? Total Boated: Species Breakdown:Kings, steelhead, a brown and some lakers Hot Lure: King of Sting Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: 30 - 430 fow Lure Depth: 35 - 95 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished with Gator and 33Canuck yesterday. Started the morning in 30 fow looking for browns. After a short troll, we decided to pick up and run to 230 fow. Trolled North to 430 and pick a bunch a steelhead, 2 mid teen kings and a small brown along the way. Once we got past 400 fow, there was bait all over but no hooks on it. Trolled back in and in 280, the 95 rigger fire with a big fish that ended up coming un-buttoned. Made our way in to fish lakers and ended up catch some but not the action we had before the upwelling. Things are very scattered right now. Hopefully things get better for the shootout.

fly leader break offs?
GAMBLER replied to hawkeye625's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I have seen a lot of flies that have frays from a bad unhooking job on the previous fish. Always check the leaders near the hooks after pliers were used. -

The weigh in is at a rod and gun club around the corner. The dead line for the sign up is the 26th I believe. -

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/6 7/11 7/13 7/14 Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Lots Total Boated: Lots Species Breakdown:Kings, Coho, Atlantic, Steelhead and lakers Hot Lure: Stinger NBK - Hammer Time Spin Doctor and Green Hypnotist Atommik fly Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== I have been away from the computer the past 2 weeks and have not reported much. I was out 4 days in the past 2 weeks and the fishing has gotten better each trip. On the 6th, we fished lakers to put some fish on the LOC board and had a blast. Put a bunch in the boat including a 18.06 that put us on the board. On the 11th, we fished kings in 140 to 180 East and West of the creek and did steelhead and kings in good numbers. On the 13th, we had a great trip in the same 140 -180 zone. We did 18 king (14 were over 18lbs - 4 of the 14 were 25 to 26 and change) 6 steelies and one laker. On the 14th, we did 14 kings (2 over 21lbs including a 28.02 most were in the 12 to 18 lb range) 6 steelhead, one coho and one atlantic @ 12 lbs. The fishing has been really consistant in 140 to 180. A West troll has produced more bites than an East troll. We took more fish on divers and coppers. Riggers produced fish but not as many.

Why are Lake Trout called chickens?

Keep on hating them guys. -
I did a nice Atlantic Saturday and 2 cohos in the past week. One coho was about 5 and the other was 8.

Gald to see you made it in safe. Keep the old belts as spares in the cuddy.
-
2's. I do not trust the weathermen as far as I can throw them. We will see.
-
IMO, I would trust a Spro swivel tied to mono with a Uni knot over the albright. Watch knot wars on North American Fishermen and the Uni is one of the strongest knots out there. The Albright knot did not do well at all during their tests.

I heard they were making some Speedo's up for a certain person that mentioned it last year! -
What determies that its more dependable? Albright knot has failed a couple times on me in 4 years of running copper. The Haywire and Spro has not failed yet.
-
Electric fly swatter from Harbor Freight tools. Less than $10.00 and works great. It also makes for a great conversation piece.
-
Spro swivel, haywire twist and shrink tubing. Easy to tie and more dependable than the albright knot.

When currents are heavy, and you turn sharp, you will more than likely end up with a tangled rigger or 2. Another thing to consider is boat slip in the wind. If you are trolling west of east and the wind is out of the south, your boat is slipping slightly north. If you let the rigger on the one side of the boat down fast, it will fall straight down. The rigger on the other side of the boat is actually angled under the boat (because of the slip) and the other rigger you just dropped with sometimes tangle the other.

It is freeze dried and salted. I still brine mine. They are really firm and hold up better than other brands.
