  1. Good Luck. Be careful, I guess there have been a lot of black bear encounters up there recently. They had one on the island my dad was staying on. He showed up every day. He was swimming back and forth from the next island over right around the time everyone put their garbage out for the day.
  2. Bob, I saw your house on wheels parked in the park the night of the captains meeting. I did not see you or I would have introduced myself. PS I never realized you look like the Skipper from Gilligans Island
  3. Pizzaboy, My father just got back from the French. He said the water is the highest he has seen it in years. The fishing for pike was great but the walleye bite was tough. The weather was a little on the crappy side. They had snow up there a week and a half ago (4"). He talked with a group of guys that did go down and fish Georgian Bay. They did some eyes and pike down there.
  4. This fish was 20+lbs and was over 36". We did not put it on a scale so we could get it back in to catch when the summer LOC starts. Jax snapped a quick picture and back she went. So many people talk smack about lakers. If you run a little bit lighter rods, and don't horse them up, they will survive. We go to extra measures to make sure they survive. Burping them, misting their gills with the washdown pump, and having a cooler with water in the boat to revive them helps. I have caught many 20+ lbers over the years and they do fight well. The 24lb. 11 ozer I caught 4 years ago was an awesome fight. If people don't want to fish for them, thats fine with me. More for me to catch.
  5. Nice report Matt. Tough fishing all over right now. Hopefully the stable weather will help set things back up.
  6. Here is a laker I took last Wednesday. Took a glow pink dot peanut behind the Hammerhead Crystalina cowbells.
  7. Mountain goat, I saw you guys at the weigh in. Nice box of kings for a real tough day for everyone across the board. Congrats on the 2nd place finish. We ended up 6th with 3 big lakers. slow pick on kings for us until the sun came out and then it was laker time.
  8. My father is up there right now. I will give you a report when he gets back.
  9. Do you have an old catalog? They should be in the catalogs.
  10. So, where does the copper reel come into play here????? You could also step down to 40lb. backing.
  11. I see at least 35 spectators in the picture...probably twice as many off the pic. both sides of the ramp would be.... hmm... lets see ....( 35x2 off the pics=70x2 sides of the ramp=140 spectators x 2 days (weekend)=280spectators multiplied by each summer week beginning memorial day to labor day (16 weeks) and the grand total is...... 4480 spectators per season. Now pay attention Governor Patterson...open your eyes if it makes a difference take a look at this!!!! $10 a seat X 4480 spectators= $44,800 revenue for the state of NY not to mention the rotation factor fof those seats that leave early and are refilled..could be more than $70,000 state income per season. Also the refreshments (beer and pop, hotdogs hamburgs etc.) could add twice as much to that figure. $140,000 for 16 weeks Now think about that ...and PLEASE don't raise our sporting licenses just to give it all to the big city Mark Exactly.
  12. Ray you forgot green everywhere anytime. Green seems to be the best all around trout and salmon color for most.
  13. That is a reason why the state needs to put in bleachers and charge for each seat at every boat launch. You see stupid stuff like that at every launch. Gotta love it.
  14. Stan, Tom is a top notch guy. His product is awesome. I used to run Howies but switched all my flies to A-tom-miks because they hold up to abuse a lot better than other brands. You will be happy with them.
  15. Happy B-day Tim.
  16. Happy Birthday Shawn. I would have FISHINMAN bake you a cake but we would like to see you live to see your next birthday!@
  17. Gander Mountain 8' leadcore rods. Great for copper and have a 2 year no hassle warranty.
  18. Jeremy, If you can't find Seagar locally, order it from A-tom-mik. He selles it for a good price.
  19. Jeremyseg, Get rid of the Vanish Floro. Vanish is cheap crap. Use a higher quality floro like Seagar. It is more expensive but you will not have those problems. I would also step up to 30 lb. Tournament tied flies = fewer lost fish. I tourney tied every fly in my box and have noticed a much better hook up to landed ratio. Snubbers are a thing of the past. IMO snubbers = lost fish. keep the drag just tight enough to keep the drag from clicking out. If you have it too tight, you may lose gear and a fish. Having the proper reels also helps keep fish on. I used to have 2 of the Great Lakes Sealine reels for my dipsy reels. They sucked. The drags were horrible. I upgraded 3 seasons ago to Diawa SG47lc's and they are great reels.
  20. Are you sure it was not a Bowfin (dogfish)? Lots of people mistake bowfin for snakeheads.
  21. I agree with Legacy and Yankee Troller. I would add a 300' and 400' copper off of the boards. Last season those 2 copper rigs were my top producers. Pkomrowski, cheaters are a 6 - 10' leader with a swivel on each end that you attach to one of your rigger rods to add another spoon. Attach the spoon to one of the swivels. Let out the lure on the main line, put it in the rigger release and put the rigger down 5 - 10' and attach the cheater (empty swivel end) to the line. You can add a rubberband that is half hitched around the cheater and put in the swivel of a fixed cheater or leave it off for a sliding cheater. You then put the rigger at the depth you want to fish. I prefer the fixed cheaters because you always know where that spoon is in the water column. After you get a hit, you can put that spoon back in the exact depth to duplicate your first hit. Cheaters can be a little frustrating at first. You will get some tangles but, they are worth the hassle.
  22. Rob, It is coming back out of the water Monday. Need to put another transducer on and fix a spot in the floor. Other than that, everything is great.
  23. Ran out for a couple hours of fishing this evening with my neighbor. Ran out to 90' of water and set up trolling NE. The fishfinder was a ghost town. Marked 3 fish in the 2 1/2 hours of trolling. Finally got a hit on the 100' copper off the board with a Stinger green crushed ice spoon. Landed a 5lb. king. That was it. The water was 44 degrees at the mouth of the creek and warmed to 50 degrees in 180'. The water changed to 39 degrees down 12 - 25' depending on depth. Temp seemed to get better the deeper or further East we went.
  24. Mark, 36 West was the furthest West we went. The further West, the slower the fishing was.
