I have both my 7 colors on 40's with a full spool of backing. I have my 10's on 50's, 7's and 5's on 40's.

East end kings are running due to water flow! They have received a ton of rain on the East end the past couple of weeks. The Salmon River was raging a couple weeks ago.

This time of the year (late August) I find bigger browns will be in 62-70 degree water. As for structure, deep points and shoals (which the oak doesn't have a lot of) are keys to finding numbers and bigger browns. If you look East of the Oak, Devils Nose, Wautoma Shoals and Braddocks Point are some of the best deep water structure areas on the entire South shore. I also find slower speeds (1.8-2.2mph at probe) with Stinger Standard, Stingrays and mags work best for me. Free sliders and cheaters will take a ton of big browns at this time of the year. Those big hooks you see up off the bottom in piss warm water are usually big browns. Big browns seem to stray from the normal Thermal cline bottom intersection area more this time of year than any other. If the weather is stable, they will load up in the thermal cline/ bottom intersection. If the thermal cline is like it usually is in August (unstable), they move slightly off the zone. I have caught a lot of big browns fishing kings up high not too far from the thermal cline intersection. For example, 2019 in the fall LOC, we placed a brown fishing kings in 110' on a high diver. We fished the early morning in 60' for browns and caught a bunch but not many good ones. We took 4 browns late that morning up high fishing kings in that 100'-110'.

The Canal in Brockport, Spencerport, Greece and Fairport are all great for carp. Corn on the bottom with light floro leaders. I take my son every summer and we catch a bunch every trip.

The loss of the domestics is only going to hurt Tribs like Sandy. Sandy used to get great fall runs of domestics. High water years, most went way up but dryer years the lower sections had awesome numbers. What was their reasoning behind cutting the domestics. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

The browns are there. We fished them in early July and last week and caught browns of all sizes. The only exception seems to be browns from 5-9lbs. Lots of stockers up to 4 lbs and lots over 9lbs. Brown fishing is best in the summer after stable weather. We haven’t had that much this summer. When we have, the brown fishing has been good. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

They have no clue about which ports have better survival to adult hood. Most don’t imprint no matter where they are reared and end up back at the salmon river. The sandy pen project had the best survival (least mortality rate) and best weight even though most years our fish were held the shortest duration due to water temps. I get that Dave. They told Rob and I they it’s survival in numbers. More stocked at one site means more survival. So they take our program out of the equation (for better survival) and put our fish in Black River bay to run the gauntlet of some of the biggest populations of smallmouth, perch, lake trout and walleye. It’s complete BS. If it was truly about survival, the kings wouldn’t be put in a project with only 50,000 stocked. Then why the small project on Black River? Only 50,000 kings. It doesn't align with their stocking in numbers for better survival theory. They could have kept Sandy (one of the most successful pen projects on the entire lake) and left out Black River. It doesn't make sense to cut a successful project with a TON of volunteers to start in an unproven project. If it was truly about survival rates, Sandy would still be in the program. Year after year we had the best survival rate and growth rates of all the projects.

The Sandy fish were taken away to stock in numbers at the bigger ports yet, they are starting a pen project in Black River bay of only 50,000 kings. They took a sucessful project away from Sandy and put it in a site that hasn't had a pen project before. They also took more stocking away from the West end fishermen.

The kings are managed for the lake not the tribs. That is one reason why Sandy doesn't have kings. We have lost a marina and the majority of the boats that used to fish out of Sandy. As for stakeholders, there is a board set up of Captains, and guides that have input on the decisions / issues. As far as I know, there isn't any representation from any recreational anglers trib or boat on the board which IMO is a problem. They decided to put more kings in certain pen projects for survival in numbers. The sandy project was one of the most successful projects year after year. We worked with SUNY Brockport and they gave us and the DEC valuable information they compiled from the research they did on our project.

I run the same set up Rick talked about. I ran the OR13's and had trouble with them tangling when the rod was set down. The release would twist around the mainline. I have tired Troubles fixed cheaters and they work great also.
