  1. Correct. All of us sportsmen need to be on a united front and push the DEC to enforce the rules in place. There needs to be a bigger presence by ALL anglers in pen rearing and the state of the lake meetings.
  2. Don't think those suspended lakers you are catching are suspended lakers. I have watched time and time again lakers shooting up from the bottom to hit the stuff you have suspended. Last spring, we watched a laker come up from the bottom and smash a flasher and fly down 100' in 180' on the fish finder. It is amazing how far a "lazy" lake trout will travel!
  3. Great report! Another great trip in the books.
  4. NY will never close the tribs. They used to manage this fishery as a put and take fishery. They are slowly getting away from that. The fishery is a huge money maker for the state. As for the guys that think a "few" are abusing it, spend some time during the brown runs in the fall at Burt, Oak Orchard, Sandy, ect and you will see a lot more than a "few" snaggers. in my very limited time I spend on the tribs I see way too much of it happening. When bubba from the back woods comes stolling down the middle of the creek with a snagging rod with 10z of weight, you know what he is up to. The salmon season brings the worst out in the tribs and the illegal clowns kill a lot of early run steelhead and browns during their visit illegally. The solution to the issue needs to be address by the DEC before they manage the steelhead fishery for the tribs only. If they did more about the issue I would have no problem with the changes. Unfortunately for us fishermen, deer hunting takes a front seat once the season opens.
  5. So we are supposed to ignore the illegal activity that goes on in the tribs? Come on HB2. It shouldn't be swept under the rug. These outlaws affect all of us in a negative way. This video is a prime example of my concern.

  7. These regulations are to preserve the steelhead numbers so the tribs guys can catch more steelhead plain and simple. The illegal activity on the tribs like this is why this should not happen. Charter captains rely on these fish in hard times to survive but we are saving them so they can get raped on the tribs. For the record, I am not against legit trib guys that respect the fishery. It is the snaggers, lifters, egg strippers and guys that don't respect the fishery that drive me bonkers.
  8. I find the same thing on Lake Ontario. I have caught very few 18+lb lakers in warm water. I find most of the 18+ lakers in 39-42 degree water.
  9. Its open year round on the Lake Ontario tribs.

  11. I wonder what strains of Lakers they stock in the finger lakes. I’m pretty sure they stock three strains in Lake Ontario. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  13. That is a common theme with everything in that place.
  14. Buy the saltists. Save your money and buy them over time. You will not regret it.
  15. I have the older sportpilot plus and it works great. The compass that comes with it has to be mounted as far forward and close to the hull as possible. I don't know if this unit has the same compass set up but if it does, make sure it is mounted in the right spot. Also if you have a bad steering cable, it will hinder this unit.
  16. Over time, the lakers will adapt to eating gobies. They have adapted well on Lake Ontario. Gobies will go way deeper than 60'. I have caught lakers in 200' of water that were coughing up gobies. The USGS also finds gobies in the trawls on Lake Ontario as deep as 300+'.
  17. With gobies invading some of the Fingerlakes, you will start to see the more aggressive lakers on the bottom. Gobies are easy meals and they have to cover less water to find them. Those suspenders will spend less time searching for alewife and key in on gobies.
  18. The hook tied above the sinker is a big snagging method. They cast out a heavy weight with a treble above it and hold it tight until a fish runs into the line causing them to get snagged.
  19. Anyone interested in feeding the salmon, contact Legacy or myself here.
  20. At the ELOSTA flea market, I did a seminar on Finding and catching trophy lake trout.
  21. Oak Orchard???? Sandy Creek! Free launch less traffic and some of the best laker water on Lake Ontario!
  22. You are welcome! I'm glad it helped!
  23. If you are looking for Fingerlakes tackle spoons, check out Hawks tackle or contact Motoman on here. He is making the same patterns on the same blanks. His stuff looks really good!
