Thought our tribs saw alot of pressure.......
GAMBLER replied to bout time's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Most lake guys have taken responsibility and admit that C&R is not good on the lake. Guys are going huge lengths to C&R steelhead like the boga method. My beef with the tribs is the illegal shenanigans that goes on. If you want to manage the steelhead as a trib fishery, clean up the illegal crap on the tribs. C&R on the tribs needs to be studied on the pressured tribs to see what damage is being done. No one has proof that heavy C&R does not cause harm to the fishery. I have no problem with legit trib guys that respect the fishery. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Magnum Metalz downriggers
GAMBLER replied to UNREEL's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I just put a new board in one of my 4 year old STX riggers along with the clutch hardware. I abuse my riggers laker fishing but my old Mag 20’s lasted a lot longer. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

The enforcement is something we can agree on. The snaggers just lining and lifting, not on the Genny or the Oak. The salmon river may have cleaned up a little but it is still an issue that really needs to be taken care of to help us have a healthy fishery. It is simple, let your main line lure out, clip it in the release. Let the rigger down the amount of distance you want between the main spoon and the cheater. Clip the cheater on the main line, throw the spoon out of the boat and let the rigger down to the desired depth. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

If they have a license, if the judges doesn’t throw away the tickets and they do not harm the fishery by taking more than their limit. There are not nearly enough ECO’s to cover the tribs. They want to promote the tribs but they do not want to do anything to keep the fishery from getting rapped by snaggers. Until they can get the shenanigans under control, promoting the tribs is only going to be bad for the tribs. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

I used to trib fish a lot in my younger days. The crowds were annoying due to the fact that most were snaggers. I got annoyed with the constant disregard for the fishery. I spent many hours waiting for the DEC to arrive and then not show up. It really is a shame that we have a world class fishery in our back yard and the DEC does not care at all about it once deer season and duck season start. Craziest non target species catch on lake O

Pete, We get one or two a year in our intake at work. A couple years ago, we had a spawning pair in the well a the pump station. When I first started working here, I got a huge one in the screens that would have challenged the state record if it was caught on a rod and reel. It went back in the lake. -

Here is how Silverfox stores his Gambler Rigs. I have had this questions about my rigs many times and Scott has the perfect solution. The boxes and foam come from Amish Outfitters. I just ordered some to do this. As for cowbells, I purchased a flasher bag from Cabelas. I’m not sure if they still sell them or not. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Thanks Pat for posting the video. The tributary outreach program scares the crap out of me. There is nothing like giving the keys to the city to the criminals......... It will promote the trib fishery (which could be a good thing) but along with every respectful trib angler comes 3 snaggers. Do the tribs need any more pressure? The Salmon River during salmon season is shoulder to shoulder. How many more cavemen do we need? I agree with what Rick (Yankee Troller) said at the end of the video. Lets have a study done on the conditions of steelhead after being caught over and over again. Missing meals day in and day out has to have an adverse affect on steelhead. Being fought over and over again builds up lactic acid in their bodies and burns calories they need to spawn and survive. They may not be dying off but they have to be leaving the tribs in worse conditions then they should be. I know I would be a lot thinner if I missed a bunch of meals this winter.

Those increases are great but a little more notice to the pen projects would have been a little nicer! A three week window to get more pens made, and nets ordered is a little rough......

No meal at the reception, no gift. Sorry bud.

I am stuck working for the meetings. Could someone possibly post a summary after one of the meetings?

I read an article about a big crack down on illegal charter operation last summer. They were saying it was coming. These illegal charters are hurting the legit legal guys. I have a feeling if they did this on Lake Ontario, they would shut down a couple guys not playing by the rules.
